So has anyone tried and succeeded for a decent period of time? (1y+) I've been trying. I stop playing for 2 days, but then I realize that I have so many hours a day I have so little else to do with and all the games I have are boring. Even eve is boring, but i just can't stop playing it. Maybe because I can play it without actively playing it. I've tried nearly everything that's not Industry or capitals. Logistics I tried once and liked, but I can't fill the entirety of my days with healing people, since no one is that active except incursion groups. And I couldn't fund that, either. I've recycled characters a few times, terrible idea every time. It's such a pain to start eve with no isk or sp, even if you know lots. massive, boring grind to set up a very meh income stream (assuming you don't want to start alts or live in nullsec/whs). FW was nice, but I tried the pvp and... nah. Maybe I was just unlucky, but it all just seemed like gangs or linked pirate ships whenever I wanted to fight. The few times I went out in a gang, I ended up having ewar used on me (neuts/ecm), killed or couldn't stop the enemy forces (this is the only place I've flown logistics and I was the only one most of the time). Or we just couldn't find anything except lone people, who all died pretty fast and I didn't really get to do anything except top them up after the timers were up (because of gate guns).
So anyway, that was a kind of long, terribly formatted rant. But here's the questions:
How do you quit eve when it's the thing you spend a large majority of your waking time on? Or (ideally), What do you do when you get sick of eve when you have no sp, don't get the shakes, can't find anything to interest you and have no income source? (exploration may be my income stream. if I don't get tired of that) |

Hi, I hope I won't come off as judgmental, because this is in no way my intend.
The fact that you are straightforward with this is the first step to find a solution, this is positive. Many people around here are dealing or had to deal previously with some sort of gaming addiction. MMOs in all their greatness and endless possibilities can easily be a catalyst for such an addiction.
You need, I believe, to find something in life that will make you move forward. MMOs, especially the deeper ones like eve, can do as much good as they can do bad (I wouldn't be owning my company if a similar experience in an mmo didn't give me the confidence to do it in real life).
Realize that one day, sooner or later, you will stop playing, maybe the game will just shut down at some point and it'll be "all for nothing" in a way.
You can build many things ingame, but most of what you do ingame will remain in game, and if you allow it to be as important as the stuff in your real life, you may have a problem. But not an unsolvable one.
You seem intelligent enough so you can rationnalize, we only get one shot at life, every second that passes is lost for ever. So you want to make it so most of these seconds are spent in real life rather than an imaginary, virtual one. This is very important.

I've had 2+ year breaks, with the accounts turned off.
I would recommend:
- write down / save information for how to log into each account that you have - include the names of the characters you have, because that can be a security question - log into account management and turn off email notifications and the newsletter they send out - make a note of when the account expires and set up skill queue to expire 3 days after that - set your affairs in order in-game, especially move out of null if you're there, because 6 months from now the area you're in may belong to enemies
As for what to do:
- play other games (there's a million games out there) - do something with your life. |

Ya I have taken a break from this game multiple times and with the nice weather coming any day now I'm probably due for another one. |

Sounds like your addicted but burnt out.
That happens with everything if you do it too much.. well, most anything. ^ ^
Right now you may be the equivelant of the old blue haired ladies chain smoking virginia slims and hitting the penny slots from dawn to dusk.
You need to force yourself into a break. Invest yourself into something you cant back out of easily that isnt gaming. Take a couple online college courses, buy everything you need to paint like Bob Ross and give it a whirl, or simply sell your computer buy a camera and go on a road trip or camping trip for a week or two. Enlist a friend to cut down on expenses and possibly have more fun!
If you live near water, buy a used kayak on the cheap. Just another month or so depending on where you live and the waters should be raging? You may reallt like it!

I've been trying to quit since 2009. It's simply a lack of worthwhile competitors that keeps me here. Tried going cold turkey a few times destroying assets/characters, nope. Take a break, give it a thought in 3-4 weeks, if you still feel like EVE isn't for you then it might just work this time.

I think im on the opposite end of the spectrum than most here, but I totally agree.
Ive only been into eve for a little over a month... loving it so far.. but ive also tried just about EVERY mainstream MMO since 1999. (boy I miss my good ole Everquest days...) accept for Eve. I always knew it was there, but I guess was too scared to commit. I always 'thought' that the depth would be all too encompassing, but to my surprise, its what has me captivated still. Every other MMO I get into I research so Hard in the first month that im bored with it before I even reach the supposed 'end game' ... and fizzle off. Some of them I revisited, but ultimately quit. I

1) Send all your ISK and stuff to me. 2) Ask CCP to permaban your account and/or IP (tell them you are an ISK-seller for added effect). 3) Enjoy/Regret Real Life 4) Profit!
But seriously, if you have an addiction to EvE (apparently MMORG addiction is a thing though I only read about WOW-cases so far) inform the CCP Customer Service or something, I am sure they will help you by locking you out.

I don't think it is a good idea to take ISK from someone that then gets banned for ISK selling...
Seriously OP, you sound like you need to take an extended break from the game, do stuff IRL, then come back to EVE with an attitude of 'I log on for no more than ten hours a week, no ifs, no buts, no maybes'. See if that makes it fun.

EVE is like that incredibly sexy, but crazy, redhead stalker with the rich, but verbally abusive, father (who will do anything for his "little girl").
You will never escape. There is no point in trying. Just go along with it and learn to enjoy both the crazy and abuse.

Alternatives to EvE abound both as computer games and in other areas. Volunteer with big brothers big sisters organization they always need help. Volunteer at a local hospital they susually need hlep but not always. If you are so inclined check with local churches there are always volunteer needs that they are aware of. Join a book club and spend your time with a good drink and a good book. Hike, bike, walk, run or any one of a few dozen other solo and group outdoor activites. I could go on but hey if you really want something to do besides EvE there are endless options to pursue. |

I predicted Incarnage/the summer of Rage 2 years before it happened, I got called an idiot and a troll. Leading up to incarnage we had these rumours about p2w, $1000 pants and "no fear". I stated "the fact that it's even on the table and up for discussion is enough of an indication that they're about to do something hilariously stupid", I got called an idiot and a troll. And then incarnage happened exactly as predicted.
On this char, so more recent times, I predicted outcomes of ship balance changes (most notably CBC nerf/rebalance and CBC MJD) and because my statements didn't suit the most people's agenda (or they were just too moronic to make that mind leap themselves) I got called an idiot and a troll, it happened exactly as I predicted.
Atm they're discussing removing learning implants and adding more combat related implants for those slots and I'm predicting that they're moving from p2advance to p2w, I get called an idiot and a troll. And guess what, if they push that through it'll be exactly as predicted.
Here we are again, this is another "no fear" thing and I'll repeat what I said years ago, just before incarnage: "the fact that they're even openly discussing p2w is enough of an indication that they're about to do something hilariously stupid". I'll probably get called an idiot and a troll again.

Seriously, the first post should be an indication of what that thread is. It's an effort by the forum moderators to corral all the idiots and trolls into one thread, rather than having the 10 separate threads that he linked in the first post.
Unlike the attributes thread, there's no dev involvement in the thread, although the ISD did specify that CCP has considered all sides of the argument for years.
They should make a sub-forum to General Discussion called Ongoing Discussion Topics and put big issue 50+ page threads in there.
As for your amazing predictive abilities, if only we had someone willing to set odds and take bets on whether Gregor Parud turns out to be right in the future... |

CCP having some dumb ideas about making more money and introducing something under the radar that'll turn out to be highly questionable, which will take a whole ton of convincing by CSM and player base to show them the error of their plans? That's pretty much a given.

You nearly had me Gregor.
Really, if you fall for that thing, please, stop coming to the forums.
A. OP = ISD not CCP. B. It's all links of player made threads. C. This is just a nice, simple solution of ISD to moderate the forum. (all shiptoasting in 1 thread, other threads can be just locked due to redundancy)
If you didn't see that, you should really really start to fix up on how the forums work.
