Yes friends, its time to request this glorious mechanic again...
[queue Top Gun "Danger Zone" music]
Imagine.
...on the side of all of your ships you would have that breakdown of other ships you killed. Instead of tanks or artillery pieces depicted in the image, you would have breakdown by ship class (i.e. frigs, cruisers, BS's, capitals, etc)
EvE's ships are beautiful to look at, but just imagine how much more so they would be if you could do a 'look at' on another players ship, and see without googling his zkillboard if he's a badass or not.
For debate is whether or not the counts would be tied to a specific hull, and when that ship explodes the counts reset or not. Also for debate would be if a player could choose to hide them.
Discuss.

It would be interesting to be able to sell these ships with the kill counts intact. High kill count vessels from famous space people could be good luck charms for lesser pilots or collector's items..

Get a thousand people to take a piece out of a fully insured, unfit carrier, and voila, a thousand valuable hulls. |

+1 if it only goes to the ship that gets the final blow.
Also should be viewable in the Info window for that ship, not just painted on the hull.
Edit: Maybe final blow AND top damage, nobody else. |

Your avatar is perfect for the forums. That is the same face i make after reading some of the stuff that gets posted around here.
To the OP, id be ok with it. I just predict it might be a nightmare to code. If you repackage the ship, would that erase the killcount?

Just replace the Right-click -> Show Info function in-game to open the killboard score directly, instead of showing bland info on the pilot. |

Just like kms final blows
and there was an 07 show where the art team talked about how they were looking at doing this with ships along with having the paint degrade

Not like that would really matter for the most part you would be the only one that would bother to look at your ship

So long as the ship kill count is valid only for that ship that made the kills.
In other words: the kills do not transfer across hulls or ship loss. |

Why on earth would I want to hand out free intel to literally everyone in space?
I'd really rather not have to ditch my rigs, or even my whole ship, every tie I got home from a roam.

Yea, again... so you now have 200 VELATOR kills painted on your hull. Which makes you look like an idiot who killed your friend's Velator 200 times to give your hull 200 "tick marks".
First of all... abused? Who would care? You could spam ROOKIE ship kill marks on your hulls? Great, everyone could see they are Rookie ships, and call you out for the stat padding scrub you are.
Secondly... a simple common sense "fix" for this non-issue would be to make Rookie ships NOT give tick marks. EZ |

making a distinction between types of ships killed is far more effort than needed for this

I would be really cool to have a ship be able to have a sort of history as long as the ship name isn't changed (name changes as a reset would easily fix the issue with additional intel I think). It would be awesome to have famous ships be able to function as collectors items. This is probably a lot of storage space on the database, but I would love to be able to buy a ship through contracts if it were flown by specific players.

I want to know the full and complete history of every ship I fly. Was I the first owner? How many owners before me? Who were they? You know, because I can never find the title. |

No because of this -^ It hs always amazed me at how much information people in this game are willing to freely give away simply because it would be cool. Kill boards are another of those really bad ideas that fall into this category. If we are going to fight I want you to know as little about me as possible, and if you know nothing but my name that is the ultimate goal. However kill boards make huge mountains of evidence available to those who are willing to look at it. |

Also with a respectful nod to the post above mine outlining some of the problems with this sort of idea, but I would find it funny/cool to implement this on Concord ships. Imagine a Concord fleet captain in a particular system kills of a certain number of criminals, marks and info on his hull (and perhaps when you click on that NPC in space), eventually he gets a promotion and gets a bigger ship...
It's just fluff of course, impossible to code and a waste of time. But damn it'd be interesting to have legacy NPCs in systems.

Yeah, why not?
I imagine it being both present on the ship's hull and info page. For the hull, it could be either an automated-update decal on a visible place, or an optional one to come as part of SKINs.
I also think it should be available only to top damage and killing blows. Although regular assists could have their own decal. This would also reward logistics pilots! |
