i got quotes from fight club in my bio .. am i cheesy now?? 
one thing i really like to see is a rp-bio of a "normal" guy/gal - like: beeing born there and there, did some stuff like attending a certain school .. maybe a divorce of the parents ... and so on - either it's too boring to write such stuff or it's too close to reality - dunno
the only thing that sucks more in a bio than the list of wrecking hits is a kill-list - which ships you killed (not even like kill-marks on WW2 fighters, but more like a kill statistic)

I seem to recall I've a vague character backplot in my bio. Nothing too obviously cliched or angsty. Although I must admit I haven't actually looked at it in quite a while, so it's entirely possible that that's not the case ;)

Bios come in handy when you're about to kill someone... Soo many people put their wrecking shots in a bio, and it's good to know what weapon you're about to encounter! 'Ah, so he uses named electron blasters... Time to keep out of web range!'

Yeah I like to read them, although as Rod and others have pointed out already the "I hit with blah blah" are really boring. Sometimes though you hit a good one.
My pet hate isn't the wrecking hits, its that damn stupid link that everyone tries to hide in there bio. It annoys me because i Have a link to my RP BIO in mine and a lot of people wont click it because they are used to the lame eve orb crap.
I also try to get everyone in the corp to submit a BIO to the website and use it on there pilots info. I think it adds to a game sadly lacking in RP nowadays.

I like RP bios if they are well written. Most arent.
Funny and/or intelligent works for me too. Anything in 1337 speak gets ignored. I cant believe that there are still people that think it is novel or cool. It's the 2000s version of jive.

Now that I think about it, I did read a funny one off a passing pirate the other day.
It was basically like a questionnaire. "You are going to get your revenge on me for: a) Ruining your game, b) blowing up your ship" ect... I wish I could remember the actual questions he used, because they were pretty funny. It was set up like you were supposed to print it, fill it out, and mail it to him, heh heh

I read bios every now and then and like most people, I'm usually disapointed with the content. Most bad examples have been given in previous posts already so I won't repeat them. I mu7st admit that I still have a few wrecking shots in my own... I think. They slowly get deleted as I get bored with them.
Being part of Ushra'Khan, I wrote up a small story about my character and those who take a look at it will see that I am not the classic parents/self were/was captured by some slaver. Of course, the slaver eventualy got killed as the parents or the char escape in a bold and ingenious way leading him to then lead the life of a freedom fighter to help rescue the rest of his people. There is also the classic "I had some relatives who died from vitoc poisoning and now it's payback time" type of stories.
I'm sorry if any of my U'K brothers and sisters have bios similar to what I have just discribed but these stories are too cliche for me not to mention them. 
My character has had a pretty easy life. Relatively wealthy family living in the Republic. A decent education which eventually led me to pod piloting. Of course, I had to get a bit of Matari fluff in there so I went with the whole "spiritual awakening/my ancestors are sending me on a misson" type of deal. To make a not so long story even shorter, I never felt the whip but I dream about others getting it and I don't like it so I'll help making it stop.
I also have the flag thing going but that's out of nationalistic pride as I feel I am more of a Quebecer than a Canadian (although I still have lots of love and respect for the rest of the country). It also might help me get away with spelling and grammatical errors as it shows my first language isn't english.

What about a link in a bio that causes you to basically totally lag out if clicked? This happened to me today. Is this an exploit? I could not close the browser...super super lag. I mean like the whole game just stopped working for a while.

I sometimes read bio's. Personally, I have tried to think of a background for my char. I do find it a bit hard to actually roleplay, since I haven't met a lot of roleplayers. Most people just tend to do what they like and talk out of character.
Back to bio's, I think it is a shame that not more people think of a good backstory for their char. But I do try to look.

I have the "Cole Protocol" from Halo as my bio, but it's had some minor changes to make it fit in with my corp.
some of the new members actually thought I would assasinate them if it wasn't followed

Bios are sometimes handy, sometimes funny, usually a by-product of having to show info everyone you see in 0.0, and usually filled with complete crap. My bio has a game-related purpose, so I keep it there. Otherwise a clear bio is probably better than a wrecking shot bio...

Personally, I like checking bios when I have time. I've found some pretty darned funny ones on occasion.

I look at bios when there is one. Sometimes, you can glean useful info if it's somebody that you might be fighting. And some are really interesting. My bio reflects my view of the game and I think is humorous, and also includes a lot of good info that is a handy reference for me, like the table of npc weapons, resists, etc.

i read bios a lot if i got nothing else to do and being in 0.0 you do show-info all the time anyway. some are really excellent and fun to read. one i remember is murder one's bio about noobs going to low-sec in their shiny new destroyer with just enough skills to fly it and fit some guns. sooooo true. the real good ones are mostly short. a few chat logs, comments, jokes...
i wonder why i have never seen a bio featuring "I am drrzit ur'dorden and some evil drow teleportz0red me to some random plane of existance."
anatolius pretty much covers what i find lame and boring in bios. not that mine is somewhat great, but at least i try hehe. specifically:
- eve.orb.at links
- bunnies and beer trucks
- not so much the wrecking shots if it's just one (and not faked), but especially missile damage!! missiles can't do critical damage ffs!
- i'm an antipirate boohoo
