Edited by: ssmarius on 21/10/2006 18:35:34 PvP in Eve the clear winner? That's your opinion, pvp in WoW is not 'simple' their are alot of different builds that you can encounter and a priest (Healer) can dish out a lot of damage if being with a good gear for damage dealing and a good build.
WoW PVP isn't realistic at all, eve PVP isn't realistic either. I play both games and still enjoy them both, been playing eve for almost one year and WoW for about 1 year and some months and enjoying it.
Also, WoW PVP is way more interactive than eve PVP. Wow Is not 'button bashing' it's tactically activating skills in a certain combination. While eve is selecting the right target, activating modules in a certain way and of you go. No other action that you have to make other then warping away. That's why WoW pvp is more fun for me, but eve is a lot more exciting of not wanting to die because you might loose a expensive ship.

And making a topic here is bull, the people at the WoW forums will say excactly the opposite.

Originally by: Aterna Eve's physics engine is leaps and bounds more realistic then WoW's. Arrows go through landscapes, trees, around corners to hit enemies being just one example. At least in eve missiles go around friendly ships to hit enemy ships, go around stations. Even though projectile fire doesn't, it is still far and above more realistic.
Eve's universe is far more believable as well. The Fictional reasoning for things like jump gates, warping, instant communication over light years of distance, it all is explained in such away that it could be possible.
And in WoW people throw fireballs and jump 10 feet in the air, can be polymorphed or turn into a really ugly bear. You can lay traps that freeze people into a block of ice. realistic. right...and pigs fly.
Really, aside from the fact that ships in eve handle more like submarines then space ships, it's vastly more realistic then WoW.
Yeah... and Eve has a vastly more realistic death toll when you die due to lag and more realistic rage caused by said death, result of lag which realistically explains why WoW has million'f of subscribers compared to Eves laggy piddly thousands.
I once loved Eve, played it religiously but who the hell wants realism and out-of-my-hands-lag-control over fun!

If you mean large eve fleet battles are very interactive, I might be crazy but hearing on ts what target you have to shoot, lock that target, and press f1-f6/f8 seems very interactive to me

Say what you want about WoW, endgame PvP is balanced very well and good fun. The big advantage Eve has over WoW in the PvP department is that in Eve you don't need to be at the highest possible level to really affect a fight, a noob with a warpscrambler can be the nail in your coffin under the right circumstances.

Comparing EVE to WoW is like comparing Apples to oranges. Sure they are both fruit, but they are not the same.
WoW was designed with the EQ player in mind. One of the main complaints in EQ was that death hurt too much. So WoW decided to reduce the amount of pain involved in death. The average EQ player had no PvP experience and mainly wanted to PvE. However everyone wanted to be able to try out PvP in a controlled environment - dueling was popular in EQ. WoW appeased this desire by making the majority of the game PvE based, while also throwing in some mild PvP.
All in all, WoW is a casual MMO pre-60. There is very little grind involved in the game. There is always a quest to do, and these quests are actually interesting and involve plot. Every city has some backstory that you can discover by doing quests.
The end game, however, is horrible in that the only thing left to do is raid - something that the WoW devs specifically wanted to avoid. If it weren't for the battlegrounds, there would be literally nothing left to do in WoW at level 60 besides to grief low level enemies. And even the battlegrounds are usually barbaric zerg fests that have little to no strategy involved in them.
Compare EVE:
It seems to me that the average EVE player DOESN'T come from EQ, but rather comes from such games as Homeworld or Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. EVE players care more about strategy than they do about PvE, or about completing that next COSMOS mission, or about getting that +4 implant.
EVE was meant to be a harsh world. Death in EVE is much harsher compared to WoW (though some might argue not as bad as it can be in EQ). Spontaneously running into the thick of battle without a care in the world isn't viable. You have to meticulously create a plan and execute it perfectly, or you risk losing millions upon millions of ISK. In EVE, there is also much more emphasis in strategic preperation - fitting your ship for the task at hand, as opposed to just having a "one size fits all" configuration. In fact, IMO, fitting your ship is half the game in EVE - putting the right weapons in those high slots... deciding if you want to sacrfice a weapon for NOS/neuts, deciding if you want a passive or active shield tank, deciding if you want to fit damage mods instead of an armor tank, deciding if you want to fit webbers/warp scramblers, etc etc - you get the point.
Thing is - EVE and WoW are totally and completely different games. They are designed for completely different people. They both have strengths and weaknesses.

Neither are what you'd call realistic, but: In EVE, stuff actually dies. It doesn't just respawn. In EVE we have technology. WoW has magic.
I know what I think is more realistic, meaningless though that is.

Hmm, no "Omgwowistehsuck" post.. The WoW forums had that about eve...
Either way, I'm lead to believe that EvE falls under the "plausible" category whereas WoW falls under tha "Snowballs in hell" category.. Neither is more realistic at it's current state but atleast EvE could happen, WoW just can't.

I like WoW PvP before they introduce Battleground. Roaming around a fantasy world, killing enemies(PC) that I encounter during a journey was exciting and fun. Battleground just turn the game into CounterStrike grind fest.

In eve, you mostly automaticly turn to pvp when you reached a certain amount of SP. Many ppl start with only pvp. Thats both ok and up to the player to choose. You can do almost everything solo in eve once you have decent skills and equipement.
Take me for example. I have 47mil SP, got enough ISK to replace what I loose, I have all ships that I wanted to fly in combat, I did mostly missions and PVE and also a little bit of pvp when I (!) wanted.
Now lets take a look at WoW (from my experience). The part getting to 60 is the hardest. You quest and learn very much about the world and solo running of instances is nearly impossible. You are kinda getting forced into group activities but I dont really see an issue there. Once you reached lvl60 and have a decent equipement you can start raids into the high end dungeons and high end quests (Onyxia quest comes to mind with a great set of pre quests). Just think about it, it took nearly 3 years for the highest boss to fall. Raids need more tactics and good equipement which is not easy to get your hands on.
Also the wow market is more simple and you cant buy everything there. Most high end stuff is only available from bosses that you either pick up to get or sell for gold.
Both games have big potential. It all depends if you like the style of them or not.

First of all: WoW has been out for about 2years not 3.
Second, Kel'Thuzad was brought in at the 1.11 patch which was 3 months ago..
aaand third; getting Tier2 gear and/or equalent gear should take you less than three months with a decent guild.

WoW pvp = sterile. Pointless. No penalties for dying, no rewards for winning.
EVE pvp = OMG this matters. You get podded you lose your implants, that's a big deal. Your fleet loses the battle that POS goes down. You get your hauler popped on a megacyte run you've lost a LOT.

I have tried WoW twise.
First I played the US open beta for about a week, during that time I managed to get past the "wave" twise and at the end was utterly boored of the game.
Second try was not all that long ago, a buddy worked nights and thus I could borrow his account when he was working. This time I managed to put in about two weeks, I got in a few hours most days, when I quit I was acording to my buddy doing really well and was very rich for my level.
Both times I got torn down by the dullness of the game, sure you get more and more abilities and you can do some interesting quests but at the end I was simply boored to the bone of doing the exact same thing over and over again, I even started exploring areas far over my level and figting almost exclusivelly yellow and red mobs just to make it more interesting. Sure I died alot but as there was no reprecussion for dying... why worry, I even did a few kill quests serg style solo.
Also the high end areas for getting the best eq are 100% safe havens as far as PvP goes, I think the term people commonly use is carebear PvE.
As for PvP, I saw very little of it ither time round, mostly it seemed to revolve round running round in circles and frantically hitting buttons.
If we are going to compare EvE PvP and WoW PvP then we have to compare the same PvP, EvE does not have battlegronds. In my opinion the battlegrounds have absolutelly nothing to do with WoW, battlegrounds is a game inside the game, counterstrike with WoW characters.
To compare PvP in EvE and WoW we have to compare PvP out in the game.
In EvE we fight for things, it may be for wealth, territorry, revenge, grief, or any number of other reasons.
In WoW you can never gain anything of value from your target and thus you cant fight for wealth, as you cant set upp buildings you cant fight over territorry ither. In reality the only reasons I have seen PvP take place in WoW is grief and revenge for grief.
As for the actual act of PvP fighting... It is true that in EvE often its a matter of choosing your target, pounding it and warp out if you are the primary... on the other hand the only reason why players in WoW dont use the same method in my experience is that there is no warp out function.
As for interactivity, in eve battles tend to be large and fast but I have never in WoW seen as much tactics involved in PvP as a small battle in EvE, managing shields, armour, controlling drones...
Lastly however, discussions comparing WoW here is rather pointless as most who play EvE find WoW lacking. If you however post on the topic on the WoW forum you would most probably get a "who is eve? is she hot?" reply :)

Easy. Ask them when was the last time they had a PvP battle that changed the direction of an entire region of the universe for every single person playing WoW.
Then tell them about the time there was a major fleet battle that altered the face of an entire region in EVE. :)

The term I would use is sureal.
There is nothing realstic about the fireball going through a wall to hit your enemy, nor is there anything realstic about about a wcs. Eve has the option of saying its in the relam of possibilities, because its Sci-fi, while wow is pure fantasy, we are not inventing a doom guard anytime soon.
I have being a hardcore wow player, and now a hardcore eve player so I know the differance well. WoW has a very simplfied logistics chain in combat, with gold you can restock up anytime. EvE requires you to stock pile resources before hand, some places just won't have the ammo or equipment you need.
There is no land grabbing in wow, while some argue that battlegrounds have one, its effect on the battle is very little, serving purely as a dead mans rally point. Here in eve, the capture of an alliance outpost provides signficant tactical advantages. You control their resources, clonning station, actually demoralization of enemy troops. There is something of real value to lose while wow you just hit reset.
That is the differance in eve and wow. One has real lost while the other is just time and probably the only thing I can think of in eve which is truely realstic.
