DavidT33 wrote:I'm currently using a 4G connection through my iPhone's personal hotspot and when I start the launcher it tells me it's "downloading eve launcher update" but doesn't do anything at all. I tried downloading it manually from here http://cdn1.eveonline.com/EveOnlineLauncher/release/EVEOnlineLauncher_2_2_871265.exe but it makes no difference. I have had problems downloading patches before via my iphone and was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on what's going wrong? It tends to work fine when im downloading it from my internet at home so I dont think it's a firewall issue (I disabled it just in case) so perhaps something with 4G or using a hotspot? Thanks in advance
Also could be provider blocking ports...
ex. was able to update and play on a Sprint tether, but could only play over ATT hotspot.
What was suggested to us, was to use a VPN to our house/office. It was a pain but fixed hotspot problem. I'd run a test, but we got rid of the ATT hotspots a while ago.

Vorll Minaaran wrote:I have 2 PC both with a main EVE client and a Sisi client installed years ago.
On the 1st I did the migration first the Sisi client last weekend, and did the migration on the main client today. I have ended with a 17,1 GB shared folder.
On the 2nd I did the migration the Sisi client last weekend too, but with the main client I moved the .stuff files and the /res/audio and /res/video folders into a temporary folder to play with the behaviour of the installer. I have ended with a 14,6 GB shared folder.
Then I set all the launchers to download all, and neither one downloaded anything.
How could it be? There are 2,5 GB outdated file, which the launcher didnt deleted, or one client missing the same ammount of data?
/edit: spelling
This is very much a possibility, as we have not yet put in place the mechanism for cleaning up unused files.

You know what would have been really smart. Making the launcher smart enough to see if there is an existing shared cache or not. Oh wait you nd but it has so far taken nearly 2 hours to extract to an existing cache. My cache has nearly tripled in size, I presume because the launcher is duplicating everything, so fr we are up to 22GB and 49% complete. Shared cache alone is 21.9 GB And I still can't login
Just found the reason (I think) - The launcher created a 2nd Res Files folder inside the existing one. So in fact I now have 2 res folders, 1 of 22.2 GB and a 2nd one 21.2.
My opinions are mine.

I hope you are very soon going to touch it, and touch it good, and I mean that in the best way possible c:
I've done a typo in my last message. The app data for two different installations is not 1.7 but 2.7 Gigabytes. 700 MB are from the "ships" folder, which I don't even know what it is for. MachoNet WOULD only use 240 MB but it has a huge number of files which makes it bulk up to 391 MB simply because of that. And of course there is pictures 821MB (1,08GB on disk) which COULD be the only thing I could safely delete in PARTS... but then again, most of those pictures are going to be loaded again anyhow. And that is only for one installation. The other folder has less since it is not as long in use, but still. That also holds up with a total of 1 GB.
The biggest problem is the diskspace these two are eating. So now that we're at one installation, basically, the only thing I'm concerned about are the settings. I'd be willing to make a clean cut there, IF I know what I can delete without causing trouble.
Can I safely copy the content of the settings folder to the other one, not replacing files but just adding them, and then delete the folder in the appdata of the installation I am no longer using? |

I noticed on the Sisi client after it was changed to download on demand that when i made a session change ingame like jumping a gate or undocking from station that the client halts for 2-3 secs.
I never got around to reporting it and forgot about it until i patched my tq client today and the issue was introduced on tq as well.
Now, when jumping gates its not that big of an issue as you end up cloaked after jumping but undocking from a station leaves your ship in space while the client hangs and takes away the seconds you may need to get away from station before someone targets you.
I cannot find any other posts about this but I know other players have noticed it as well.
o/ Were you able to reproduce this within the last few days or today on Tranquility? There was indeed a short freeze during session changes on Singularity, which was unrelated to Download on Demand. This freeze should have been fixed about 12 days ago and I am no longer able to reproduce it. Hmm....I actually don't seem to be able to reproduce the issue anymore. I definetly noticed it on TQ right after i had patched my client today and an old corpmate of mine also noticed it. Maybe it was just something that needed to be cached for the first time?
Ok, I have now experienced it again on 2 toons/clients on tq but its not every time I jump or undock, just sometimes. |

If you are on Windows and have the EVE icon pinned to the taskbar, right click on the icon and unpin it. Then try running the launcher directly from the EVE install.

I have a really slow internet connection,
It kind of serves me right, because I didn't select the 'Download Everything' option.
As a result, when I started the game the client hung. - not sure if this is because it is trying to download resources that it didn't think it needed, and my crappy internet froze it, or it was a crap install to begin with. Either way i could not get into the game.
There was no fix for this.
The only option available to me was to use the repair tool, which kindly deleted the entire game cache, requiring me to have to start downloading it again.
Seeing as that's going to take at least 12 hours for me (and that requires no other internet usage), any chance you can send me the installation files on a DVD? It will be quicker and if the repair tool decides to delete all the game data again, at least it wont require another 12 hour install.
Thanks |

John WarpingSlow wrote:If that's the case, then why is access to 209.197.2.0/23 (one of Highwinds Network Group, Inc's network blocks) required for the launcher to render graphics, for the PLAY button to not be greyed out, and for the launcher to be able to launch the client? For anyone else who is behind a firewall with a security model of "anything not expressly permitted is automatically forbidden", here is what you seem to need to allow: A) 87.237.38.0/23 all ports, all protocols (this is CCP's IP block) B) 209.197.2.0/23 port 443, tcp protocol (Highwinds Network Group, Inc.) There may be more, but this is working for me now. IP block ranges are findable by using ARIN's WhoisRWS search box on their page: http://whois.arin.net/ui
In order to get the giant patch and cached data into the launcher earlier today, I gave up playing whack-a-mole with the firewall logs and rulesets, and just allowed this workstation to connect to the world on all ports/protocols until it was done with the download. I hope the next patch day doesn't force me into the same position. Highwinds is one of our Content Delivery Network partners, but they're globally distributed so I can't provide you with a list of their IP's. As an example, when I nslookup res.eveonline.ccpgames.com I get an IP beginning 205...

Changing the SharedCache directory on the launcher will cause it to download the shared cache again to the new location instead of simply moving it on the harddrive. Also, it doesnt delete the old directory.
This is after you've downloaded the SharedCache once allready.
So, if I change the directory 3 times I'll have 4 copies of SharedCache. |

For those experiencing issues with the launcher not loading properly, or getting no connection to content servers: I found a workaround, but it is RISKY.
Again, you have been warned, if you are unlucky or make a mistake, it may force you to redownload parts of or the ENTIRE SHARED CACHE (~13GB).
Anyway, here we go:
1) run repair.exe (located in your eve directory) 2) let it update itself etc. 3) watch the log closely as it runs, at first it will check/patch the basic client files aswell as the launcher 4) wait until it repaired your launcher, after this it will start scanning the rest of your client files and eventually start deleting your shared cache - ABORT and exit the repair tool as soon as the launcher has been patched! 5) run your launcher, it should now connect and patch properly (do it in admin mode just in case)
Don't blame me if it kills your shared cache anyway, but it did work for me and others on mutiple clients and PCs that had issues. |

Simply copying the launcher files from a functional client did not help however. I would strongly urge you not to do this, and instead simply install the EVE Launcher from this link:http://cdn1.eveonline.com/EveOnlineLauncher/release/EVEOnlineLauncher_2_2_871481.exe
Running the EVE Repair Tool before you've migrated any assets to the shared cache will simply delete them leaving you no alternative but to redownload them all. |

Alright! Thank you very much for your answers through these last days and your patience c:
Are there any plans to merge the application data files, since they share a lot of redundancy as well? Is there a safe way to export the settings so I am down to a single client? I'm not seeing any difference in performance to run both clients from the same installation or from two different ones, other than being a bit worse than before the merging of shared files.
So is there any other advantage to run two separate clients instead of booting from the same from your point of view, or are these changes meant to get rid of multiple installations altogether? |
