That's right, here's one example of Isk on tap..
Originally by: pludder Edited by: pludder on 17/10/2006 11:05:27 CAUTION: New Price due to extreme demmand! Hi I have a 90-day Gametimecard for sale. 400.000.000,00ISK (new price, in game money)
Reply here or convo "pludder" ingame. (or join channel "pludder")
GTC's i'we sold 'till now: 56 x 90 Days 12 x 30 Days Cheers -pludder
__________
One single player has sold: 56 x 90 Days gamecards ($2240 approx) 12 x 30 Days gamecards ($180 approx)
What we have here is someone thats spent over $2,000 dollars buying gamecards and making 200 BILLION isk ingame.
To me that doesn't sound like someone playing the game, that sounds like someone running a business, and im truely sorry if you don't see that.
That's more money than any one player would ever need in EVE Online, so where is it going? Why do they keep selling them if the isk is only for personal use? Are any GMs investigating these so called big-time gamecard sellers to ensure that they are not laundering isk into rl cash thus breaking eula?
More worryingly, is game wealth aquired via RL cash not something which should be limited? After all, winning t2 bpos is limited to a specific pool and number of prints, buying isk with cash through gamecards is unlimited if you have deep pockets.
I know CCP are turning a blind eye because more people are staying due to them being able to pay for their sub with ingame currency, but to what extent will this be allowed to be continue unchecked? Is this not the proverbial 'Win' button in a blatently obvious guise?
If you happen to have lots of RL cash you can buy your way to the most powerful ships and gear in EVE via gamecards sales, hell you could even buy ships for all your friends and fund your corp and alliance wars until you tilt the balance of alliance warfare and make it totally pointless to play eve.
I was always under the assumption that success and status in eve came from being a skillful player, a hardworking player (and in the case of t2 bpos, a very lucky player) but i'm just at a loss at how gamecard sellers can be allowed to buy their way through EVE with no regulation.
Is anyone else thinking about the negative long-term effects this will have on the game?

I wouldnt do that myself cause it takes away any challenge a game should have...however, how exactly does this lower the fun you have in EVE?
Is this guy destroying your trade-item's market, is he financing a merc-corp wardeccing you, or why do you care?
Concerning the "most powerful ships/tools" someone can buy with this money, he can only fly one ship at a time, so even better if he keeps coming back with expensive loot.

Read http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=415537 you're probably looking at the alliance retailer - I doubt he spend 2k USD by himself.
Even if he did, its his money.. what may be a lot of money to spend to some is small change to others. There is something deeply wrong with GTC sales yes, but don't blame people for setting up cartels or flooding the market with them. Thats only natural and CCP should have seen it coming.

GTC sales are very bad. Look at what the average player can make ISK wise in a day of playing the game. Now look at how much money you can earn in a day at work. Now look how long a GTC you can buy and now look at how much it sells for in game.
I might not be able to make hundreds of millions of isk in one day of playing, but if I spent a day working an extra Saturday or something and then spent that rl cash on GTC's and then sold them for isk, I'd have a truckload more isk than if I actually played the game for a day.
Something is very wrong here CCP. Signautre removed - not suitable for a teen audience - Serathu ([email protected]) |

To get to the top of the game purely by spending rl cash you'd have to be a milionaire and have pletny of friends with alot of time to use all the accounts you buy them.
Other then that all you can aspire to is losing real cash every time you die instead of fake cash.

It does ruin our fun in eve because if you play it in a decent way there is no way you are ever going to get any bigger.
If you try to buy a bpo of some kind he can just outbid you any time and prevent you from starting up a t2 manufacturing line.
He is also getting much more experience in pvp since he doesn't have to spend his time ratting or mining to replace his ships.
IMO everybody should have equal chanses and if you are smart and have a feel for the market you should be one of the rich guys and not some guy who spends 2000$ in RL money to get 200 bil.
It is also a lot easier to get your "reputation" if you can afford to lose anything. Get yourself 8x officer smartbombs and a bs with 8 wcs and go sit in a system with a lot of traffic in 0.0 and you'll be known soon enough. If you come back 10 minutes after you lose your fully faction gear fitted bs with another fully faction geared bs you'll soon be called every dirty name in existance.
I used to buy GTC's for my 2 accounts with ingame isk aswell, I admit that. But lately the prices have been soaring to stupid levels and I just don't want to spend that much on a GTC. So what i'm doing is essentially also buying isk with real life money. (If i do pay with RL money i get to keep 300mil a month)
In all honesty i am against selling GTC for isk but it is to late now : all the people that wanted to get rich this way are already to rich at the moment. Who knows maybe they are even selling their isk again on ebay and making a profit in RL cash...

Everyone I've disagreed with on this pretty much has the following philosophy, translated for truth:
"When someone's richer than me in real life, it lessens my pride in taking something of value from them, and cheapens my triumph."
Further translation:
"When I pwn a n00b, I wanna know he's pwned and I'm 1337."
Other than that, who cares? Their mothers will kill them when the Visa bill comes. Problem solved.

You dont learn and become a pro flying tech II fitted faction ships. You might as well use Cruisers/Recons that are very well affordable. Having lots of isk =| pvp-experience.

Yes, you will have a reputation as a tard losing multiple faction-BS while killing hardly anything, cause a single EW-Frig can disable you.

I'm not saying I'm for driving GTC-prices for isk up cause someone wants to become richer and richer, its wrong, totally, its unfair, sure.

Please note I am NOT saying that this particular GTC seller is doing this but...
For $2000 a person buys GTC's worth around 22 billion ISK.
22 billion ISK sells on The Auction Site That Must Not Be Named for around $3000.
Easy enough to see whay someone would be doing this...

Obviously not many people are doing this then, because then the prices would equalise.

I am completely for being able to buy GTC for ISK, for multiple reasons such as that people that can't pay for EVE with RL money, either because they're financial situation doesn't allow it, or because they can't in their country. Although I don't like GTC sales because other people, people that sometimes only just started the game, can become filthy rich in a matter of days, and if you ask me it kind of ruins the economy in the game a little bit because there's more and more people that get ****loads of money like this. But since CCP will never sell GTC's for isk simply because they wouldn't earn any money off it, there's nothing to do really but just live with it. --------------------------

I care. Those saying ISK can't make you win eve are slightly deluded. If you can fund all your alliances pos's and ship replacements with GTC sales then its only a matter of time before your enemy gives up as they wont be able to keep replacing things like you can.
Industrially, if you have billions coming into your wallet everyday you can buyout other peoples T2 BPOs easily creating your own mini monopoly.
Some people don't pvp as much because of costly implants and ship replacements, this all works in moderation in alliance warefare, people need to recoup losses thus no one pvp's 23/7. But if your wars and equipment are being paid for by GTC sales then you have an unfair advantage in game and can essentially win any war by simply outlasting your opponent.
Isk has a huge impact on eve, its silly to think it doesn't.

the problem is that people earn their livelyhood by working in the game. those people are ready to do things a "normal" player would never do like camping complexes by logging in 3 times a day or other means like macro mining with several accounts. i even think that mission running with macro is possible now after seeing about 20 ravenpilots with similar names and same birthdates next to a station of a nice agent. that hurts the game experience for others. those people take away resources of the other players for rl cash. they defend their sources of isk much more agressive and organised then fun-players would do because the relation between the efford of pushing the complex campers out every day with a gang is not in a good relation with the results in bounty and loot. except if you earn your daily bread with it. on the other hand it hurts all of us because any isk earned with fun as main interest gets devalued by inflation.

Taken in context with the rest of the post, it seems he's talking more about buying ISK directly using eBay or somesuch.
Unless there's been a recent change in attitude, it's still kosher to buy and sell GTC for ISK. Is it hypocritical? Of course it is.

But CCP gets their cut so they dont care!
CCP STOP THIS MADNESS! When I have 855,000,000.00isk for the skills for capital ships, I would have earned it, IN GAME, BY PLAYING THE GAME!!. Not selling GTC cards!
Saying buying/selling on a auction site is bad, and bannable....Then allowing GTC sales for isk, is not bad...well aint that a little two faced their?

For one he can outbid you at will on any T2 BPO you wish to buy. You know all those BPOs people are complaining they don't have due to an unfair lottery system. Even if they don't win the lottery they can't buy them because they're outbid by these guys.

Context does matter in this case, considering eBay is mentioned specifically in that blog, not GTC. It's the specific mentioning of one thing and the non-mention of the other, which is is telling.
Besides, if it was as much a concern as you think that blog implies, they wouldn't allow card sales, would they?

Doesn't real world wealth *always* ensure at least some advantage in at least one aspect of liesure activities?
I have an aging/ancient PC that runs Eve anything but smoothly. Should I be moaning that the game should run as choppy and lag ridden for all as it does for me? Should I ask the dev team to kindly stop looking for the memory leak and add in a few more hiccups so that the people running on the latest single die dual core chipsets with dual graphics cards and 4 gig of RAM are placed on a level playing field with me? Maybe I should ask for the servers to have access limited for each player to what I can spend playing each day, because otherwise, someone is going to get the jump on me financially in game. Maybe every player/ISP address should be limited to a single account, because that's all I care to/can pay for.
Real world wealth has advantages in just about anything you care to pursue. This is something you simply are not going to get around. If it didn't, no one would bother aquiring it. I'm also pretty sure CCP aggressively looks into any ISK for RL currency exchanges. I know I report any of those mass mailers I get trying to sell me ISK, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.
