Edited by: Big BillyBob on 02/11/2006 06:27:01 Edited by: Big BillyBob on 02/11/2006 06:24:42 I recently shelled out $100 to get my poster professionally framed.
Here are a few pictures:
Pic 1
Pic 2
Pic 3
There's only one problem.
Here it is
That is one of the major crease marks on my poster that almost ruins the whole thing. Its a big white line with an ugly scratch spot in the middle. It made me think twice about putting it in a frame, but I figured I could deal with it.
So CCP, I have one question: why, oh WHY, did you FOLD the posters and not ROLL them? Rolling causes no crease marks, and I would have gladly paid a few extra dollars shipping fee to secure the condition of my poster.
Is there any way I could purchase another copy without any faults like this? It seems such a waste of good art. _________________________________

thats totally unacceptable, i can see it was folded into thirds, and then folded horizontal in half. did they mail this to you in a business size envelope???!!?
i can see the other vertical crease line easily and it looks like there is a horizontal crease line running through the pic too. not to make you feel bad about the line you notice yourself.
folded posters are for 2 bit magazines. (import tuner, girly, retarded biker)

Edited by: Tehyarec on 02/11/2006 14:29:40 Posting photopaper posters as folded? No offense but that's retarded. If someone folded my photo prints I order I'd stick the person responsible out of the airlock. Or something No point in a high-quality poster on photopaper (as you say it's from CCP, I guess it's on photopaper like the rest of 'em... but I don't see Iron Tide in the shop, and it's made by a player right? So dunno) if you ruin it by folding.
EDIT: Ah, from E-ON? Well, still, if it's photopaper, never ever fold it.

I've been meaning to get this framed myself, but you're right, the crease marks are a deal breaker. :(
BillyBob, did your framers use a "dry press" i think it's called to flatten it first? There's also apparently some tricks they can do to "color in" the seam, but with so much details on the image I'm not sure that would be acceptable.
Really, the best would be to release the full sized image file to print from, but that's up to the artist. :) Or heck, sell full sized prints! DeviantArt can do that. -- Lil Miner Newbie Skills Roadmap | CCG Card Lookup |

OK guys - Xicon here, from MMM Publishing. We produce and publish E-ON, which as you all know is the official EVE Online magazine. Now, hear me out here, and think carefully before shooting.
First, CCP is not 'responsible' for your huge, free poster being folded. Second, the poster was free. Nobody paid any extra to get it. Third, every single magazine subscriber got one. Not just new subscribers, but every single one. There is no other publishing company in the world (as far as I know) who treats their customers that well. Fourth, a question. Would you guys prefer to not receive free posters, on the basis that they have to be folded and can not be rolled? Fifth, would you pay more for an anual, four-issue subscription if you knew that at some point in the year, it included a poster which was sent rolled in a tube, as a separate package? Sixth, would you like to see the Iron Tide poster in the EVE store? Printed on 200gsm Gloss Art stock, and mailed rolled in a strong tube? (I guess I know the answer to that one).
Ok, now please re-read carefully before shooting...

Just one suggestion.. In future issues you could maybe have a few extra posters made to mail to people in tube containers for a reasonable fee to compenstate MMM for the trouble? Add it to the magazine site as an option for subscribers so you could have an idea how many you would need.. Or even make it a subscription option like "Check this tab if you would like to be sent posters with your issue in a tube for $x.xx extra" You could even ship the mag in the same tube for extra cost efficiency..

No offence....but this is a cop out. I really dislike the whole tone of that response. In fact I am straight out offended.
a) The mag is very expensive, so yes... I EXPECT to receive a good product.
b) It gets posted in a plastic bag. Now every single issue I have received to date (I live in Australia) has always come through trashed. Is it that much to ask to have at least some decent packaging for international packages. Even a bit of cardboard on each side would be better than nothing.
c) Personally the Iron Tide this was one of the reasons I signed up for a new subscription to the mag. I loved the pic and I was really looking forward to getting it. However, I might as well throw mine in the bin as it is trashed beyond saving. Its beyond the whole folding issue. Its got gashes, huge white marks along nearly every fold line and all sorts of scratches over it because of poor way it is sent out. Before the mags were mailed out there were many people asking to have the poster rolled and not one person was worried about paying more for this service. In this case it was just disregarded and the customers have been told to suck it up because it was free.
As for myself... if the packaging process is not improved when my subscription comes around again I don't think I will order it again. I love the mag, but for the price tag that goes along with it I am really put out how trashed the mag is by the time it comes to Australia. It is just not acceptable.

Because of them my life at home is hell because I try to play as much as possible and pictures hanging around the house would just put the icing on the cake. Personally I liked the suggestion about a checkbox for a 'rolled' vs. free folded item. If I would have known that it was coming with fold lines, I would have taken the digital download, 'rolled' over to kinkos and had it printed.
I appreciate that it was free, but I was looking forward to framing it, and the folded poster fails the 'view' test because of those fold lines.
Not complaining here, but informing and suggesting what I, as a subscriber would prefer to see.

Okay, some people have taken this out of my proportion.
First, because so many people wondered, I know the pictures are backwards. I snapped the shots with my webcam and forgot I had it set to reverse.
Second, although I DID state this, I knew the poster was free and didn't expect any reimbursement/replacement. It's free. That's like asking a store manager to refund the air you breathe just because you think it smells funny. I would like to BUY another one.
Quote: i can see the other vertical crease line easily and it looks like there is a horizontal crease line running through the pic too. not to make you feel bad about the line you notice yourself.
There is a large horizontal line, but it isn't the one that bothers me. At least it still has its color. And yes, it did come in an envelope with the magazine.
Quote: BillyBob, did your framers use a "dry press" i think it's called to flatten it first? There's also apparently some tricks they can do to "color in" the seam, but with so much details on the image I'm not sure that would be acceptable.
Yes they dry pressed it, and that worked wonders to smooth it out. The non-abrasion crease marks actually smoothed out to the point that I barely notice them. The company I went to didn't have this color fill-in avaliable, and I doubt it would have helped unless they had the digital source. If it had worked it would have been more than acceptable though.
Quote: $100 to get it framed but you couldn't take some decent photos?
Bite me. Thats all I have to say to you and, quite frankly, you didn't even deserve that reply. Smartass.
Quote: Have you tried ironing it? I'm not joking, it's worked for me, gets rid of creases and fold marks in lots of posters!
That was not the issue here. The creases have been flattened no problem, it is the abrasion marks left behind (rubs off the ink and/or tears/stretches the paper) that cannot be fixed.
Quote: Fourth, a question. Would you guys prefer to not receive free posters, on the basis that they have to be folded and can not be rolled?
Personally no, but if the resources could be better spent on the below choices, then yes. Please read that carefully.
Quote: Fifth, would you pay more for an anual, four-issue subscription if you knew that at some point in the year, it included a poster which was sent rolled in a tube, as a separate package?
Yes.
Quote: Sixth, would you like to see the Iron Tide poster in the EVE store? Printed on 200gsm Gloss Art stock, and mailed rolled in a strong tube? (I guess I know the answer to that one).
Oh my god yes.
I'm happy to see this got more than the attention and response I had hoped it would. I was just posting in the hopes that future poster items would recieve some different form of treatment so all of eve can enjoy them the way they are supposed to be enjoyed. I deeply appreciate you guy's devotion to your community, I only aimed to help you understand how to make it that much nicer. BTW my magazine was in pristine condition so thank you for that! _________________________________

First, because so many people wondered, I know the pictures are backwards. I snapped the shots with my webcam and forgot I had it set to reverse.
Was wondering about that, a working version of IT was reversed like that - _____

Its kinda a nice poster, must get a frame some day.
Why is stuff like this not available in the EVE Store? CCP, you do realize you are sitting on a gold mine, right? We're all sheep and if you make it, we will buy it!! -
