Originally by: Pog Mahon I didn't consider my earlier message spam but it was deleted anyway. My suggestion would be that CCP actually give a warning that things may not go smoothly with the new server equipment and people should keep long skills in training for the forseeable future. SO that trusting eejits like myself don't jump on as soon as server is up and change to a short-term skill. Now I probably should be smart enough to be aware of this myself but I am an Eve newb and took CCP at its word.
CCP told you to set an extra long skill training a week in advance, the fact that you did this and then changed back to a short skill at the earliest moment isn't their fault.
I have yet to see an MMOG that has a major content expansion or hardware upgrade go smoothly without any hiccups at all afterward. Everyone knows these things are unstable for at least a few days after the upgrade. If you didn't know that, well, now you do... plan accordingly next time.

I hope this is a constructive post. Perhaps CCP should hire an IT person. I know there are a lot of them playing the game. in any other business, and you are, yes, a business, the constant crashes and outages would be tolerated by neither management, or your customers. Perhaps there is an IT person out there who could help you develop your service into something reliable, perhaps something that does not have to go offline everytime you do a hardware or software upgrade.

Edited by: Amon ''Chakai on 02/11/2006 18:05:29 tjooh, compensate the day and Managers would give "feedback" to dev's etc.. so more would happen in future patches and prolly more radical things like actually doing something about bm's etc factors what make gamers life a hell in eve.
yeps we still love the game, thou I think secondary accounts are closing in steady pace.
Other hand I think the hardware upgrade worked to certain extent atleast it improved gameplay a bit in our corner of the world.
If eve even makes close up to 60-70k+ dollars per day as budget.. they could throw about 140k-300k easily to hardware upgrade once per year.

you know, Imaran... We realize that you are an authorized agent of CCP because you have the title of Moderator. Very well, your job description is to maintain order on the boards, delete inappropriate posts and to block those who post inappropriately. It is NOT your job to silence people when they have a question or a comment. I know I face dire consequences for speaking to you like Im actually a person and a paying customer, but I do so with maturity. The mature thing for you to do rather than deleting this post, like ****** ******* would do to people who disagree with him, would be to respond, apologize and get back to the job of being the liaison between us, your PAYING customers, and the Development Team. You are spending all this time going through the posts deleting perfectly normal whines and complaints. These players need something to do to make themselves feel better while they wait for the game to return. Let the whine, let them having something EVE related to do, let them post... When the issue is over, THEN delete the thread. See? Everybody is happy, no harm is done. Instead, you spend all this time tripping out, trying to delete them faster than they are posted. Its very immature and ridiculous.
p.s. A copy of this post is being sent via e-mail to CCP management. I do recommend you be nice to YOUR CUSTOMERS WHO PAY

I suppose blizzard should hire som to, I mean why do their 6 million customers put up with their downtimes and failures after server upgrades... on much smaller servers than tranq, its an outrage!

Actually, the huge upgrade they did not long after RMR went quite well, IIRC.

When new hamsters are introduced to the server cage its not uncommon for the existing hamsters to stop what they are doing and go and sniff the bottoms, fight with, have sex with the newcommers before all climbing back on their wheels. Unfortunately this can result in game stability and the staff have to throw very small buckets of water over some of the more amorous and or aggressive hamsters. I've even heard that small whips are sometimes used but this is unsubstantiated hearsay.

I would imagine this is a catch 22. To update the MOTD you will probably need to download it from the server and the server is currently unavailable ... Perhaps it may be possible to move the MOTD onto a reliable server (such as the one handling these forums) so at least the MOTD gets updated even if the main EVE servers are off line

Originally by: Grismar Well, hoping that this counts as constructive:
One way to head off all the people complaining about having paid for this game and not getting their money's worth: promise them you'll reimburse them for this one lost day of gameplay. Even though the update went faster than you thought, it looks like more than 24h of gameplay have already vanished.
Which is fine, I'd love to see the lag go down and the database response go up. It's worth a bit of a wait, but all the same, crediting the players for a day would be a decent gesture if the trouble keeps up for long.
Good luck in finding it, fixing it and executing the person responsible, as seems to be the custom ;)
Greetings, Grismar.
If they fall into this trap, then everytime the server drops for an hour people will complain they were not credited. CCP said set a long skill, and anyone who has played any MMO before knows after upgrades (hardware especially) there will be black out periods. I agree that CCP could do more to try and fix the lag and such, but according to them Kali will fix alot of it. So they have to keep the content guys doing content as they prepare for Kali, versus trying to fix older code.
Who knows where the lag is coming from, why the clusters are dropping, or anything of the sort. The fact that when the server drops CCP is on top of it, and attempts to communicate with us makes them 1000 times better then any other game maker I have ever dealt with.
