Maybe I've been watching all the wrong videos, but I have never ONCE seen a vid of any Dread fleet except for Naglfar. Why is this? I mean, it's totally the most awesome design, but still, I reckon four Amarr-Gallente-Caldari-Minmatar dreads are better than four Minmatar dreads? Right?

minmatar dread for blowing stuff up and looking cool while doing it
caldri dread for blowing everything up but looking uncool
amarr dread for blowing up POS's and stations
gallente dread for blowing up other dreads and smaller targets
each has its own

just my opinion... but for me the naglfar is not that good
it uses 4 high slots (with terrible split weapons system) to basically do the same damage of other dreads with just 3 weapons
so, as the number of slots is the same as other it lacks a tank/energy slot
it have some pros... but the phoenix have them too

I'll edit it so it makes sense.
In my opinion the Naglfar is the best dread. It is the only dread with 4 weapon slots, and split weapon systems, giving both flexibility and higher damage but it does take more time to train for.
So as the number of slots is the same, and another weapon is a 33% increase while a damage mod is only a 25% damage increase this is actually still a good thing!
All other pros are shared with the phoenix, which is a nice dread too.

i don't agree about splitweapons as a good thing.. split weapons means that you damage mods will be applied only to 2 weapons and not 3
also it means that these weapons benefits doesn't "stack up"
if you look at some naglf damage graph with 4 weapons and no damage mods it is marginally better than other dreads, but when you add 1 or 2 damage mods it falls behind... and on top of that it have a lesser mid/low slot
this make it worse than other ship are you are basically wasting an high slot...
an ipotetical naglfar with 3 turrets (as other dreads) and double proj will be way more effective with higher base damage, no problems with damage mods and and additional mid/low slot

Edited by: madaluap on 14/11/2006 13:56:24 This is all rediculous:
Nagflar doesnt use cap for its weapons and it can maintain *2* capital reps, try that with a moros or revelation.
Nagflar deals a lot of dps and is good for pos siege because you can keep your tank running 23/7, which means you wont die because of lag and boosters/reppers sucking all cap away.
I want a moros though, because it can deal damage vs smaller targets...
Im pretty anoyed by the fact pos shields are so big though, this means no blasters and offcourse no drones exept sentry drones. Their optimal/falloff is to low.

Erm, you do know that the siege module reduces the armor repair duration by half, don't you?
Because i am surprised that you could find a Nag setup that can generate the 426 cap/sec that two capital repairers need in siege mod. What do you do? You don't fit hardeners?

The dreads are fairly balanced actually. The Phoenix for example does best dps when sieging a defended POS (you usually do so at great range, so that your can support fleet can snipe fighters without going under the range of POS guns, and out of the POS scramble range), the Naglfar does very good dps on setups without damage mods, the Moros has the awesome drone bonus, and the Revelation ... dunno really, probably best tank when not running weapons.
The only imbalanced part about dreads is capital shield boosting+lag -> empty cap.

The Minmatar Naglfar....just cuz its sexy anything else is extra. The phoenix looks like a turd, and the Revelation...well.....dunno but not as cool as the Naglfar

actually, a revelation can fit a dmg mod which will give it equal tank as a naglfar with higher dps while sustaining 3 guns+cap rep in siege mode
moros can't sustain 3 guns + capital rep in siege mode
phoenix is great but capital shield tank in siege mode sux cuz micromanaging is *** with the lag you'll get from sieging a POS
