Originally by: Imperil - Switching between chat channels after the client has been running for some time freezes the client and memory usage increases.
- Jumping through a lot of systems seems to cause large amount of memory usage after some time, probably because of eve not releasing memory / using memory efficient.
- Infact, everytime the client freezes for some reason, memory jumps skyhigh. This happens usually after the client has been running a little while and you try to get information from server e.g. market information, character information.
Same here on the Linux front + the Issuse's
- "Show Info" takes ages to load the Character Image after 2 - 3 hours of playing. That's really annoying in low sec.
- The Torpedeo/Cruise Missile impact effect, freeze the client after some hours for a few minutes.
- The Overview and Grid freeze the client too, if you warp in a grid with a Pos or with many objects in Space. (e.g. Gates and Belts) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ hade wade dude da~

yesterday we put sisi back onto dragon and had a large fight. then we done the same with kali. the main reason for this was to test the server and try to find out whats wrong with it. me and zulupark was watching the client very closely during this and we noticed alot higher fps and much lower ram usage in kali than in dragon. also we are still looking into the leaks and trying to find any, i was just wondering how other people are finding the client now, is it much better in general and are people getting a higher fps ?

This didnt seem to be true for me, I was there when you tested the Kali code and had a steady degredation in performance throughout the event. I beleive about 10 mintes from the end of the even my system ground to a halt with 0.0 fps (occasional frame refresh, i managed to get parlty into task manager to see that exefile.exe was eating up 1.3GB of ram and the logserver.exe was also eating up 200mb of ram. Unfortunately eve would not close and continued to eat up all my physical and virtual memory. It ended up in me having to hard boot my system, so i did not get any data from the logserver.
Needless to say a 60man fight lasting 30 minute totally killed my system. If you need any more information ill gladly supply, but as i have not logs im not sure what else would be needed

When at the character selection screen on current build of Revelations on SiSi ..
I'm seeing 20-40% CPU usage, and Mem usage rising from about 120 Mb, upwards. It's a steady climb over a period of minutes. Make the machine appear laggy, for other applications.
Note that VM Usage is not really rising at this time. It's static at 126 Mb, for exefile.exe
When I first "land" in the game docked in FD- I am using approxaimtely 14-20 % CPU and a memory footprint of 191 Mb. This appears to be fairly static at this usage level. When I undock, I'm using similiar amounts. FPS seems to be around 22.
After a few minutes of undocking I'm using about 35 % CPU and about 235 Mb of memory.
If you would like more detailed analysis please post where I can upload a PERFMON file to, which counters you'd like to see, and a sampling frequency.
To me the client still seems greedy in it's consumption of resources.
My machine is a P4 3 Ghz Hyperthreaded machine with 1Gb RAM, 256 Mb RAM Radeon X550

Edited by: Internet Knight on 21/11/2006 21:26:18 I've not played on Singularity, so I'm not sure if this will help or not, BUT:
I've played EVE for about five months. I've found that the sheer number of log files that it generates requires me to archive them off about once every month or two. It gets bad enough that if you leave it for a few weeks, it will take several minutes to open up the chat logs folder in Windows. This is highly annoying, because I frequently look up things that other people have said in chat. Perhaps Kali should redo the way that logging is done? I definitely do not want logging to be removed (that doesn't solve the problem, thank you very much), but perhaps either automatic archivals or perhaps simply appending logs onto the existing files (I personally would rather have ten logs at 100MB each instead of ten thousand logs at 10KB each).
As for framerate lag... I encountered something interesting the other day. When I first started playing EVE 5 months ago, my framerate in space was a constant 40-60 FPS, even during fights. However, over the past three weeks, it had been brought down to 15 FPS, even when simply undocking from a station in the middle of a system with zero activity. I was beginning to think that maybe my video card had given out or something: about once every three days, EVE would reset my graphics settings, and my framerate was still crap.
However, yesterday... EVE appeared to reset *ALL* settings, rather than just the graphics. My sound was reset, my keyboard configurations, my overview filters (gah...), and my People & Places folders (OMFG!) were all reset. HOWEVER, my framerate is now back up to a steady 40-60 FPS. It was pretty much a change from light & day. I had all but forgotten what it was like to play EVE with a decent framerate.
I'm not sure what this would be related to (memory leak at startup? poor coding? stackless python?)
Edit: I'm only posting this here since you seem to be looking for existing problems with the TQ build in relation to the Kali build.

Did EVE also remove your generated avatars? I notice after a lot of playing and pressing info on people, that the next time I play EVE, the generated pictures are randomly deleted/removed/not functioning.
I can like have all of my corp chat avatars loaded, relog, and some of them are removed and I have to press info again to get them. Very annoying to say the least.
But really, what I would find interesting to know is if why, when EVE is starting up and you log in, that it takes a long time to log in if you have not cleared your cache, while when it is almost empty the log in is almost instant. But that is for another thread.

I am still getting a lot of "lag" with the new map. Is there a known issue with regards to this?

Heres one when running full screen mode or windowd the mem-usage slowly creeps up and up as you go about your daily tasks, jumping mooshing around etc, I'v managed to get the client sucking 400+Mb then in windowd mode you minimise the game and it seems to flush it to about 80-90mb, duno what thats about as I dont do game programming.... mayb somehting to do with the loading and unloading of models and backgrounds?

For sure I have not tied it to log file or was it the launch of the drones after the shield went down but there is deff a problem there out of 1.5 gigs of memory I ended up with 400K when eve locked up. I should get a chance to test this soon I hope will not log chat or show damage and see what happens then. this was with no sound and effect turned off and launching torps for hours :)

Not sure if this is one of things you are looking for, but I thought I would add it.
I use to run the 10/10 Angel plex in Scalding Pass. At the first level of the plex, everything is running fine. By the time I get to the last stage, client is ddrraagging BAD. FPS can get to slide-show quality Usually worse in levels with the eye candy gas clouds. By the time we were done, all of us running the plex had to always reboot.
I have seen this in missions in empire as well.
Hope this helps some, I'm not much of a computer guru

I've noticed that if you run two clients of eve, and audio is turned on for both there is some crashing, and blue screening of death. (I have alot less of this happen when I turn off audio, and did all the config options like setting the cache to half my ram instead of 80mb.)
Also, every once and awhile if you transition from one screen to another it can "hang". Like it will load with the typical black screen and crash. (usually when docking/undocking alot.)
Otherwise it hangs when doing many jumps, ie; black screen > transition change to new system > loads interface for ship status > loads left sidebar background, stops..
