Kinda ironic isn't it? Maybe everyone is complaining as some kind of voodoo charm against the bad spirits? ----

I can't imagine the hellfire that occured when missiles were whacked to a balanced manner way back when (I started in April of this year, i.e. after RMR was out). I hear TomB was also even more destructive with the nerfbat than Tux. And since I already wish Tux would die in his own home when the oven goes fzzt (bring back the Hurricane!), I can't imagine TomB =P ----------------------------

Originally by: Nizbah I came in right after RMR. What kind of so called game breaking ( ) changes came out with that?
There was the drone "nerf" among others. Pre RMR most ships could use 10 drones, some like domi upto 15 and all ships had double the drone bay they got today (thorax had 4 times as large). To offset this each individual drone was buffed. The major intent of the "nerf" was better server performance.
In retrospect I don't think many people still consider it a nerf. Drones are as good as ever if not even better. Just harder to use them to lag out your opponent now.

a lot of you in here got human nature wrong: A lot of humans, when getting kicked in the face, start to rationalize about how they actually like it, and how everyone else is an immature whiner.
Even a nuclear war wont be the end of the world. A billion dead means that there are still 5 billion left, humans will adapt and live on. How bad does kali needs to be before one can stop looking forward to it? Does CCP need to send killers after you before you realize that for every change they put in (contracts .. hehehe, i was around when people actually hyped that, not just the devs), you have to work more for - in the best case - the same rewards?
In the year that i have been here, Eve got worse from a technical PoV. For me as a player, the number of concurrent macro miners and t2 BPO owner alts does not contribute to the experience at all. The lag however, is noticable even when drugged (on that "eve"-feeling some of you know from pvp).
I can see eve as it should have been, even despite the pathetic interface and all the bugs. But the direction behind it is rapidly shifting - and i think many people "feel" that its core audience is changing. For every roaming pvp player, there are 10 grind monkeys and 5 alliance slaves... eve will not die even if you put a "pointy ears race" in. It just will not be eve.
And when you expect the interface to get better, but then get the font changes instead, well.. yeh, dying a slow, painful death due to a horrible disease isnt that bad. Adapt, you whiners, or ... oh wait.

I'm looking forward to Kali, all the patches etc have been fine by me. Only one that made me think twice was the missile changes, but thats just cos I would have to train a load of skills to get back to where I was damage wise, and it made torps less fun

It's about humans natural fear of change, and the fear of the unknown.
Usually people think that change will mean change for the worse.
I believe months down the line, when Kali 2 is about to hit, we'll hear that "the game is fine the way it is" and that it shouldn't be changed. Once more.
There are some old gaffers who still cling to the notion that EVE was the best back in beta.
Usually those who cannot adapt, become extinct.

An incredible number of people are simply only ever happy when they can complain about something. Doesn't matter what it is really, as long as they can express their extreme unhappiness with the universe at great length. Of all those voicing discontent on these forums there's maybe 15-20 or so people actually worth lending an ear to, because they generally supply good, reasoned arguments to back their complaints up. The remainder are all insignificant crybabies who simply want their cake and eat it too and who'll never accept that any point of view other than their own could be the least bit valid. And you wonder why CCP doesn't interact more on the forums.....???
This place is good for those extremely slow nightshifts when time moves like 100 years old syrup and everything else has been digested already. For all other times there are more constructive and interesting places to spend one's time.

Ahhh, sweet memories. People will whine before the patch, whilst it's patching, demand a server rollback, whine some more then either quit...keep whining about quitting for a month or 2 and then live with it.
Until the next patch is announced.
/me grins in fond memory at the castor patch.
As for the whole SWG crap, they are probably under the delusion that CCP will cack their pants in the belief eve will go that way. Noobs.

players would be far less pessimistic if ccp didn't***** things up on implementation. Perfect example is the force recon ship. Its meant to sneak behind enemy lines - even gets to use the covert ops cloak - and open cyno fields for capital ships - gets a bonus to cyno duration and liquid ozone usage - yet can't fit both modules simultaneously. Notice how I didn't say "activate both simultaneously." If you fit a cloak on a force recon then slap a cyno on there they will happily fit to the ship. Try activating one though - neither will work, including the cloak, even if the other is offline.
CCP has known about that since before recon ships were introduced and yet still hasn't fixed it.
There are plenty of other examples. This one hits close to home though because my force recon would see a LOT more use as a covert cyno ship. As it is, noone uses them for their intended purpose - they use disposable frigs- kestrels, atrons, probes etc.
Now, ask me again why I'm pessimistic about CCP's new features :/ ========== CELES Killboard: http://www.celeskills.com

So why are you pessimistic about those new features?
From my perspective, regardless of a number of problems and irritations there's simply not a better deal to be had in the known universe than playing EVE for $14.95 per month. The good sides of it outweigh the bad by a factor of (warning, arbitrary number coming up) 984:1 and I simply choose to pay more attention to the HUGE positives instead of the miniscule negatives. I just LOVE this game and I love it even when I'm fed up with it and don't play it. That's not to say no one should critisise it at all, I just hate the fact that these forums are made entirely unreadable by all those who whine incessantly about anything and everything.

because if history is any guide, ccp will***** up a bunch of the new stuff as well as reintroduce old bugs in to the existing stuff. If ccp spends enough engineering effort to fix at least SOME of the old stuff before trying to implement new stuff I'll be perfectly happy. Nothing and noone is perfect, true, but is it unreasonable to expect existing stuff to work properly before implementing a bunch of new stuff, especially considering ccp's track record? ========== CELES Killboard: http://www.celeskills.com

For most patches people have very positive and have been mostly happy about the coming additions and new stuff.
I think this one isn't as positively received so far due to the greatly diminished level of communication which seems to be the new way CCP is choosing to do business.
CCP's CEO said at fanfest that the game is all about the players. But they aren't walking the talk. And the lack of communication and other recent actions by CCP is manifesting itself in a broader sense of player dissatisfaction.

There are many other people that have posted in this thread agreeing with the fact that it happens everytime.
This game has survived the dreaded missile nerf, the ebil drone nerf, etc. It will survive Kali.

EVE players tend to be kinda loyal.
ccp tends to announce a lot of stuff that never makes it into the game.
Kali already takes a year longer than announced in the first place. Currently we are 1 year past the time Kali was announced to be done.
2/3 of the announced changes and improvements disappeared from the todo list. The most anticipated features have been reduced to ashes and shadows of what had been announced to come for certain.
What we got so far has been mostly half done fluff.
A lot of old bugs and stuff that many pilots see as design flaws has not even been touched in any way.
The often promised improvement to the server stability and lag situation did not even start yet. In the past the removal of most logging features in the code brought the server and network back to 'rocksolid'. Dragon and a multitude of hardware updates did not bring anything but annoying and deadly queues and the server lag in space mostly didn't improve for nearly a year.
The Chinese server that wont have any impact on the development for Tranquility ... well, more than a year extra, lag, queues, forum not working properly, still no current documentation, forum avatars not updated in 9 months, ...
Well, new fluff, with what the customers percieve as issues being mostly untouched. Announced changes come half-hearted (more HP to make fights longer, group system still none-existent, more load to the bugged overview, some ships becoming useless, L4 courier missions with 1m¦ cargo size for another year, background story on hold for 2.x years, POS still buggy, recons+cloak+cynofiendgenerator, T2 ammo changes making half the stuff useless, ... and a lot of sother things) --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

I am not complaining about kali. I'm more than sure it will survive this path and many more. Show me where I state any concern about any changes of that nature.
And I really don't need you to lecture me on what a valid constructive complaint is since you apparently didn't get it the first time I wrote it. That seems to be your phrase of the week isn't it, whether you are using your moderator alt or this player alt. But, let's try again shall we?
MY VALID, CONSTRUCTIVE complaint is that CCP's communication process is poor and getting worse, as I stated the first time. I do not buy the argument that "it happens everytime". That just gives you and others self-granted permission to ignore all complaints because "it happens everytime" thus none are valid, eh?

Anyway, you are probably right, I shouldnt have quoted you like that, my entire post was not directed at you more on the thread in general.
The fact is that it does happen everytime, CCP's communication on the forums is decreased from the amount of flames they get when they post. Look at the t20 thread a few threads down and you will see what i mean.

some of the whinages - discussion has a purpose of giving CCP an idea of when they go to far or need to boost something they actively wade thro the posts and usuaully its public opinion that forces em to change some things not always to the way everyone wnats but a comprimised balanced position is put in
