Eve has been growing by leeps and bonds, the future introduction of Avatars and all the new ideas from CCP (keep up the good work) is not gonna help the population of Tranquility, they are heading in my opinion to an overcrowded server , then again maybe not !! But if they ever needed to add a new server would you go too it? I know i would not mind transfering my toon to a new world :)

No, I would consider quiting. The strength of eve is the action taking place in one world.

TBH i can't see why anyone would do that ? If you are lucky enough to be in a alliance would you really just turn around and decide to start again in another server ?
If you built up or been part of a corporation in eve would you just throw all that away and start again ?
Although you might be talking about transferring your character to another server there is alot more which can't be transferred like the community you are part of in the TQ server. It goes against what makes eve so great as a game so i would say no i would never transfer.

Maybe but only if there was a way to move back and forth between them.
But that isn't going to happen.
so are you saying one PVE and one PVP server?
Sounds interesting.

If there was basically another cluster *and we could transfer between clusters* - say one or a few big wormhole gates in each cluster, then yeah that could be fun, that could be cool, even if you had to log off then log back in on a different server (this could be masked so as not to spoil suspension of disbelief).
The trading and warfare possibilities would be interesting.

What is the point of having a persistent online world if it's broken up into multiple independant pieces? Defeats the purpose.
One of the reasons Eve is the only MMOG I play. ----------

If it were on 1 cluster or 1000 clusters, EVE would still be good. To me, its all about the game, not the people. If the game wasn't good, the community wouldn't be here.

Way back in the day.... The vision of Eve concerning server ...
Eve will be the first game designed to have 100K players playing online simultaneously.
With that said we are a long way from over crowding, some areas maybe but there are plenty of times that I have been in space alone for hours.
I think in Kali The derv are trying to have the players spread out a bit, and if you spend all your time in Jita I'm sure it does seem crowded but the adventurous types will tell you space is hardly full.

Two seperate servers would not be good
A PvP server and a carebear server would ruin the game.
PvPers NEED Carebears to build their ships and modules.
And
Carebears NEED PvPers to BLOW UP their ships and modules so they come back and buy MORE ships and modules

If CCP ever makes multiple shards of EVE, it needs to be done in a persistant way, such as...
Empires have constructed massive eve-gateish jumpgates, able to go dozens of lightyears, letting people head into other star clusters that are too far to be reached by normal means. The downsides to these massive gates are that it takes time to prepare and be moved (24hours or so), and the accuracy isn't exact, so you would end up in one of several systems in the destination. I'm not sure about capital ships. It's possible they could use them (excluding titans and motherships) to assist the jump drives in covering the range.
Due to the extreme distances, FTL comms wouldn't span those distances, nor would clone jumping or rapid deployment. In the different clusters, the various empires and factions would have their own empires, possibly with highsec, but if say, Sansha's Nation has an empire, there's no CONCORD< but rather elite true slave special forces.

That would kill the game. Destroy eve and make Ultima online in space.
As for the China server it is there cause the Chinese govt. doesn't allow them to be on this server really cause of the way they controll information to their population. For the game to fully reach China and not just Hongkong they needed a Chinese server.
If they have a second server the spirit of the game and what made the game unique would be dead.

So then if CCP said something like (there is no way we can handle the load coming from over seas and we will be cutting there service off because of the load) would it be ok then?

I would go in a second.
FOR: A real chance to actually find a ME Lab Slot in Empire as a noob.
A chance to get away from all the old timers and huge established Corps/Alliances, MacroMiners, the 6 trillion cans everywhere, all the lag inducing instas, out from under the thumb of T2 BPO big producers, the Complex farmers, and all else that is fubar, for a while anyway...
A chance to start fresh in every way.
What's not to like?
For those who respond, "Shards are not for EVE!" etc, all I can say is tough luck, a lot of us want it, and most of the naysayers are old timers who already have everything cornered, absorbed, exploited or taken. Of course they dont want a shard... |

Split no, linked yes. For any of you old enough to remember the grandpappy of Eve, Mr Brabham's "Elite" (Made for the BBC B/Acorn Electron in the 1980s) you will remember the 'Intergalactic Hyperdrive' which cost about 5000 credits, and allowed you to jump into a similarly dotted galaxy. Would still be the same persistant single universe, but more than one Galaxy. Easy to implement and woudl double capacity per verse (dont get me started on an underverse)

The limit is not really how many people we can place on one server, but more: how many people we can place on one area ? An area is around (300km)¦ a stargate, a planet, a station, all the surounding are an "area". Each people have one "area". So 2people at 301km don't see each other, but one guy between them at like 150km could see both of them !
Legend: X,Y,Z=player -=distance (76km)
X--Y--Z
X can see Y Z can see Y X cannot see Z and vice versa Y can see X and Z

I wouldnt mind the game being split into 4 main servers, all connected together through hourly / half hourly updates with things like escrow and what-not. Split the galaxy into quaters along regional lines and the market doesnt need to update all that much between them either.
To jump through to another quarter of the galaxy, the game autologs you onto that server.
