I'd always thought the 250km maximum target lock range applied to POS, but recently I've seen several ships destroyed at extreme ranges, 300-400km. What is the max locking range for batteries? What is the maximum effective fire range, and what kind of setup is used (Lrg/Med/Small Art with what ammo types)? Is there a tracking enhancement module for POS in game?

I can confirm this "bug" or "feature", I got poped today at a pos from 350km. Pos guns where doing 5k damage.

In my experience POS guns shoot out to 250 km max (it's the lock range of tower I think). I have not tried it but missiles should follow you outside that range too if they were launched when you were inside lock range. But getting popped at 300 to 400 km would be someting new in my experience. Perhaps they removed POS lock range cap as long range guns do have rather good range. Would make sense to use long range ammo in some guns if it's indeed so, hehe. Or it's just a bug.

A few weeks ago I accidently warped my noob corp freighter alt to my pos Even with two webs on the pos I got bumped to 350km by the shield, and the guns stopped firing at 250.

from all your replys the best we can say is that some guns shoot farther and some dont, perhaps depending on ammo.
So which guns are shooting you at 300+km? which guns stoped shooting at you at 250km? details please :)

Usually guns will not engage you outside of their activation range (90km for short-range batteries, 250km for long-range ones, I believe), but occasionally they will glitch out and launch a few salvos at 300+ klicks. Yes, I have seen them down people at 400-odd kilometers - it's hardly common, but it's not unheard of, either. There seems to be no real rhyme or reason to what makes the POS do so, but it does from time to time.
Just chalk it up to more odd little bugs with the ****ed things, I suppose. ------ Quartermaster, No Quarter "There is no problem that cannot be solved by the judicious application of violence." |
