I have a HUGE problem with you removing ore types from the directional scanner. We have a LOT of belts whereby some of the roids are offgrid and were found by using the directional scanner. Now in our case (or for the cluster where I live) we've found and bookmarked these spots so we can return (so long as bookmarks will work).
But unless your gonna redesign asteroid belts and clump everything on the same grid then these offgrid roids will be impossible to find will they not? ___________________________________________ http://www.eve-tutor.com

I wonder where the sense is in adding 2 locked stickies that are actually nothing else then 2 dev blogs.
As if we hadn't already enough stickes... -- This game is still in beta stage |

Hmm as you can probe for probes you can still see them on the scanner and that should mean you see interdictor probes as well but what about anchored warp bubbles? If you can't see them anymore it would be really bad.
Guess I got some testing to do when SiSi comes back up.

Hello!
A possible solution for your problem might be to add the asteroid-type you're looking for to your Overview. All asteroids close enough will show up on your Overview then. For those asteroids which are further away, you can check the option "Use overview settings" in the directional scanner dialog and you should find them too.

Hi all,
So are you still allowing the directional scanner to pickup cloaked ships? If so its going to make sneaking up on enemy ships impossible.
Sneaking up aka making a slingshot.

My point is there are clumps of asteroid offgrid, which means you cannot see them on the overview.
Second point is Tomb posted that asteroids were being removed from the directional scanner alltogether so they will be impossible to find.

Not sure what you are meaning with still as you can nither scan nor probe for cloaked ships on SiSi. Either they bugged it up a lot or they changed their mind so cloaked ships won't be probable.

Indeed. This change will make it 100% impossible to find any off-grid roids, which strikes me as a nerf so completely unnecessary as to be bordering on stupidity.
Way to go CCP, casually break yet another thing some players have put a lot of time and effort into learning to do correctly. |

You're allowed to bring another ship so you can use probes to check thsoe belts.
Don't forget to train the skills in time.

The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

Welcome to the world of Kali.
You can't probe for belts/roid/npcs or anything else that might be found close to those wayward roids so that won't do you any good.

The off-grid asteroids are not supposed to be there, we are working on fixing them but until then you can use probe scanning to find rare asteroid belts.

So alliances should move into 0.8 instead of mining in their own space? Horrible change in general. -----

No, there will still be Arkonor in Alliance Space, but the Empire Based Corporations, that have no easy 0.0 Access will now be able to lay their Hands (And Mining Laser) on some Arkonor and other High Value Ore.

Well, the 0.0 Ark field I found was nine Ark roids of various flavours, so probably less than that in Empire versions. Add to that the fact that it's only one of a large number of possible finds, and that you have to track it down first using exploration, and it becomes rather less of an issue IMO.
(For anyone who cares, 5 normal ark, three crimson ark, two prime ark, 10 normal bist, three tric bist, three mono bist. Didn't have a roid scanner so no idea of the sizes, but would also note that there's a drone bunker there too)

If you can still probe for cans, what about anchoring one in each off-grid belt so you can probe them out and bookmark them again after the patch ? . ----- It's great being Minmatar, ain't it? Apologies for any rambling that may have just occurred.

ItŠs not possible to probe for secure contis and secure contis wonŠt show on directional scanner either. But you should keep your old bookmarks of offgrid roids, so as long as CCP doesnŠt change the roid positions, you can continue to mine them (which is a disadvantage for newer players).
Well, I think CCP is going the wrong way with this nerf. They are removing nearly all sorts of exploration, which were already ingame. For this we are getting a new system, which is much more time-consuming.

I think CCP should rethink this change. When I mine, I frequently use the directional scanner to see what is nearby. It is very cumbersome to be turning an ore type on and off in the overview.
At least let it pick up asteroids within a certain range, perhaps the 500k that overview would find anyhow. I think that satisfies the best of both worlds - people like me can still manage selection of asteroids and people still have to visit the asteroid belt, which was your prime stated concern.

Well, then you should know that some systems have over 50% of their fields off grid. Y-2ANO comes to mind instantly. Some have other problems. For instance, in YRNJ-8, one of the asteroid belts is not off grid, it's missing totally. When you scan out the system you find that it has moved off grid next to another asteroid belt so what you end up with is a belt on grid, and a second, hidden belt off grid. This is just 2 examples I'm aware of, this is a common problem. Oh, btw, I bug reported this over a year and a half ago and nothing was done, so you're not inspiring confidence really with this move.

Aren't offgrid 'roids just "exploration jr" instead of a bug? I can see a problem if the wrong minerals are present, but why do all belts in a system have to be mapped?

Since the dawn of EVE grids have been buggy. Even now there are hundreds of belts which are divided in two, you may notice this when warping to a belt and seeing roids, and in the next second you see other roids with npc, which is where you land.

There is this magical piece of equipment called an asteroid scanner, not only will it let you do exactly what you want but will also tell you how much ore remains in the roids as well.

But this asteroid scanner is limited to about 15km, while a belt is much bigger.
