If CCP dangled a significant, unique prize in front of you would you enter a No Clone shootout?
Say for example CCP had another combat contest except with no restrictions on ships, weapons, modules or podding. 1 on 1. And prior to your fight, a GM reduced you to a basic clone. With the prize being, forever guaranteed, the only Concord Spec Ops Battleship blueprint ever to be in existance during the duration of Eve Online.
Would you enter that match?

Nope.
(but if I'd been here since launch and HAD all those skills and a great ship it might be tempting)

But for another good ship BP i could. And the skillpoint loss isn't that bad iirc from beta (one level loss in couple of skills).

Certainly not; for two reasons..
I recognise that my PvP skills, (meaning both skillpoints and skill in the true sense of the word), are nowhere near as developed as some, and:
Those statistics really are terrible.
I can see where you're coming from though; offering a unique BP for a ship in a contest; (providing that the statistics on the ship were not so significantly unbalanced as to make other ships useless) would be a very persuasive carrot.
Even if the BP was purely cosmetic; a jet-black Apocalypse, or something...

Well based on the stats posted above no, but in general if it truly unique then yes I would sign up.

Actually with absolutely no clone, you'd go back to 0. So you'd lose every single skillpoint to date if you were podded during the match. I say "if" because there's always the chance that if your ship was destroyed, your opponent might balk at sending you to 0...
And those stats are because the ship hasn't been balanced against to the ships currently in the game. Though if it had comparable Tier 2 battleship stats, 14 sensor strength in all sensor types (being a work created by all races) and upgradeable to the next TL as allegedly all original bps will be it'd be something fierce to contend with.
Oh and just so people wouldn't get scared off by a Day 1 ex-beta tester who had all their skill training worked out on a schedule: no posting the other entries until the day of the match.
Just you and your opponent, out in the middle of a blank solar system with nowhere to warp to and recover. And one hell of a carrot if you survive all the matches.

Basic clone is only supposed to save 30k points. And I did say the effects of being podded were to go back to 0. So if you mysteriously saved skill points, a GM would be handy to zero you out

Hmmm like it. You could also put a 1mil skill point minimum to prevent alts trained specically for the event. (Is that the minimum for a Scorp+EW? I can't remmeber maybe 1.5mil)

Yeah, Jash, no clone doesn't take you back to 0.
You could drop anywhere between 30k and 300k (corp. mate was podded by Ouria and didn't have a clone ) skill points.
Definitely worth the sacrifice.

To loose all skill points, no. Loosing 25%, quite possibly.
Not actually sure about the reward though - sounds like a bit of poisoned challice as far as fun gameplay is concerned. Once you'd sussed out your sale price, life would be nothing more than buy orders, factory rent, and a virtually inexhaustable supply of cash. Takes the challenge out of it a bit, and unless you were a _serious_ powergamer, you'd quit out of boredom - Carp Riddell - CEO, Innsmouth Shipping - Proud Member of Curse Alliance

Concord battleships are ugly... and they smell. Ever noticed why people instantly flee once concord shows up? It certainly isnŠt because of their firepower.

You can't die from gambling either. Go mortgage your house, hock your car, max out every credit card you can get your hands on and sink the whole lot on a 100/1 outsider at Belmont Park. THEN come back and tell us our attitude is wrong.
I wouldn't do it cos the reward isn't worth the risk. Losing six months' effort of gameplay would kick me out of EVE for good; if I gotta start from scratch, I'd rather do so in something I haven't played before.
More importantly, I wouldn't do it because a bp that was , quote Jash, "forver guaranteed the only" such bp in the game, would probably be handed out to three or four other people before the week was out. We all know how good CCP are at keeping their word and doing what they said they were going to do

Edited by: Veruna Caseti on 14/11/2003 12:43:23 Would I play the lottery with the stipulation that upon missing out on the jackpot I have to shoot myself in the head? Nah, sounds like a bad idea to me.
I might enter if it went more like this: regular rules until the final championship fight, when a "no clone" rule comes into affect. The winner would get something along the lines of 1 free station in a system of their choosing, sentry guns to guard it, and a unique blueprint, while the "runner up" w/ 0 skillpoints would receive a full set of Elite implants and a blueprint to help console them in the fact that they just threw 6 months of training time out the window.

Actually I wouldn't leave. It'd hurt like a sonuva***** but 1 thing would make it a little better: nobody would ever be able to say I couldn't roll the dice and live with what happens next.
It's a game. Not Russian Roulette in real life. So yeah, I'd do it.

I find it highly doubtful you would gain any respect by being known as the guy who dumped 5M+ skillpoints down the drain just for the chance at a little glory or a BP; lots of people would be laughing very hard.
