I'm going to make a new character after the expansion to be my main. I'm looking to get into a blockade runner to haul for my corp through lowsec.
My goal is to go fast, be agile and cloak if necessary. I don't want to try and tank my way through things.
I'm looking primarily at the Viator and Prorator. They seem pretty close to each other with one favoring shields, the other armor. Pro has more low slots I can stick nanofiber in, Viator one more mid slot.
Any suggestions on which way I can go to meet my goal of speed, agility and safety in lowsec? I was thinking that on either ship I could have a cloak in the high, MWD in the mid and nanofiber in low, but beyond that I'm unsure.
thanks!

With the new style inertia stabs and multiple lows, pretty much anything will do.

I'm very interested in knowing this myself too and just spent a great deal of time in the noob corp channel asking everybody what the best config would be. From what I've been told, agility is key. Bigger ships take longer to warp and align, so the more agile you are the better.
Nanofiber's give you the most from what most people told me so far... Of course, this won't help if you can get warp scrambled too... so it's a tough choice. Warp core stabilizers or nanofibers? or both?

The Prorator is awesome. With inertial stabs it will be utterly obscene

If you want speed you cant beat the Prowler,
ok only 3 mids and 2 lows doesnt make for much defence, but being able to fit a T2 burner and a heavy missile launcher its my choice at least.

They're all good. Amarr one has most lows so can be made fastest/hardest to scramble, Gallente has nice slot layout and good CPU and grid, while Minmatar has perfect shield resists out of the box and should be the best salvager among blockade runners. Crane has issues (extra mid will be stuck with EM hardener, barely enough PG for MWD), but has largest cargohold out of the box. Important, since fitting expanders in the lows on a blockade runner kinda defeates the purpose of the ship.
Keep in mind that a blockade runner without an MWD is utterly pointless. ------ No ISK, no fun |

Want speed = mini
Tank and speed = caldari
Mini has best agility, and max speed, but less of a shield tank than the Caldari
Caldari have the ability to run a full tank even with a T2 ab, and have lows that you can use for whatever you want, and not sacrifice your tank cause you arn't armour tanking.
Mini loses some tank when it fits a AB/MWD leave it with 2 mid slots. Caldari after an ab has 3 left to create a decent tank (Booster/2 hardners) or 2 Boosters/invuln field or EM hardner.

Good advice. Ok, so in short, let's say I want the following:
- Don't care much for max cargo capacity - Want to be as hard as possible to warp scramble while being as agile as possible (so I can warp faster) - Don't want to engage in combat whatsoever (no weapons) - Want to be able to get out of "warp scramble bubbles" as fast as possible if I have to.
What would be the best ship/fitting combo I could have (and which skills should I have trained to the max) for each of the following class of ships?
* Industrial * Transport * Freighter
?
My personal goal would be to become a trader, mostly doing trading in Empire space, but eventually also doing salvaging and hauling for big corporations (contract based) in 0.0 space. What should I go for? I assume that different fittings serve different purposes of course, but in general, let's say I want to be able to get past blockades (after the Warp to 0km change in Kali)...

Under the current TQ build, the Prorator (Amarr) is faster than the Prowler (Minnie) by about 60m/s flat out using named/T2 gear - the extra lows cancel out the Prowler's base speed bonus and the Prowler doesn't have the grid for a T2 MWD. It also has the best tanking capability (four tank slots, none of which are used up by the MWD), and the best maneuverability (I think, 2.4x according to quickfit). Plus it looks awesome.

To me, a hauler with next to nothing for low slots is about as usefull as a gunship without highslots....or a EW ship with no mids.
I'd have to say amarr has everyone beat as far as blockade runners go. It's just way more flexable. You can tank it, stab it, expand it, nano it...etc. and weapon hardpoints are useless unless you actually want to fight in a hauler. Should have a cloak in your high slot...

This is definitely interesting info. I'm unfamiliar with the inertial stabilizers... it sounds like they will offer even more agility than nanofiber but not the speed boost. Agility is good if the plan is to warp to safety.
Sounds like the Prorator is coming out on top although I'd like to hear from a Viator pilot...

I like the Iteron Mark IV best for blockade running. Its not as fast as the minmatar ships and cant tank as good as the amarr/caldari indys. BUT its the fastest t1 indy into warp and thats what really counts for blockade running. The t2 variant Viator is pretty good too.
Both have only 1 high slot so its a cloak or a weapon but from my pov shooting back is pretty useless anyway. Better to cloak and EW for defense and hope you WCS is enough to get away from any trouble.

You sure? Quickfit suggests that all indies have a basic agility of 1, and the Sigil has five lows (for nanos) compared to the Ity IV's three

I use Viator (Gallente blocade runner)
Hi: Cloak Med: MWD,2x ECM Low: 3x Nanofibres (best I can afford)
It can go around 2.2 km/s with moderate skills and has very good resists against kin / thermal. In the long run I might go for Amarr one (1 more low), as agility is your best friend in low sec / 0.0 ... and good intel.
If you want to stay on T1 ships then from industrialis Sigil (amarr one with 5 low slots) is reasonably agile altho lacking grid for MWD. It is also possible to use Exequror (Gallente logicticks cruiser) to transport things bit it tends to be somewhat slow when expanded reasonably to carry anything.

Prorator = 10,750,000 kg + 4 lowslots 115m signature Prowler = 10,000,000 kg + 2 lowslots. 110 signature radius
Both pretty good (crane's 115m kg). Prorator is deeply sick how fast it will go if stuffed with nanos and inertial stabilisers.
It still like the crane and prowler though, because they shield tank. Less low slots, true, but you get good shield resists and slots for hardeners on a prowler, which will improve your odds of getting to a gate under fire.
IMO 'haulers' should shield tank, and use the lows for wcs, is or nanos, and very occasionally expanders.
Sigil is about the fastest T1 hauler there is. Those 5 lows make a lot of difference when stuffed with speed mods. I can get it past 1km/sec with an afterburner II.

Iteron Mk.IV doesn't have a blockade runner's warpspeed.
Only 'ceptors warp faster than blockade runners. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

I must admit im not 100% sure about it. But i know from experience that my mk4 was pretty much always faster into warp than any of the other indys when my mates and i were doing convoys.

Thinking back, you're right, the uniform agility doesn't tally with personal experience. I would say however that a nanosigil moves like greased lightning - it's not the kind of build you'd use for bulk hauling, but for the smaller stuff it's unbeatable in my experience

Prorator is the best blockade runner without doubt at the moment ... I have not tested with inertia stabs on Sisi but expect it to shine with them fitted ... the only problem now is that warp bubbles have just gotten much much BIGGER and if a gate camp using large bubbles has some instalocking interceptors with a web its time to try out that medical clone to see if its as sticky as the one you have now <nelson>ha, ha</nelson> |

As for going back through the gate you just jumped through, if they get a web on you quickly and you were not going fast enough, you would not make it

I find that expanders do very, very bad things to the handling of a blockade runner. If you want to carry something largish, like a 4k pos module, then the Prowler can take that with no expanders which means better agility for that cargo.

I use the Gallente Viator. It has served me well since it came out.
Hi-Slot:
Improved Cloaking Device II (reccommended for faster cloaked velocity)
Mid-Slots:
10MN Domination MWD Shield Recharger II (passive devices work while cloaked) Cap Recharger II (helps to keep MWD running to outrun a gank squad)
Low-Slots:
3x Domination Nanofibers (super fast alignment) (ok Mav, let's Turn and Burn!)
Implants: Your Choice of 3% or 5% 'Rogue' Hardwiring Implants. Snake Implants would also work, but are VERY expensive.
Speed?
With the above you can break the 3km/Second barrier. __________
