Last night, one of my pilots minding her own business was attacked for no good reason by ASCN. We're neutral, not involved in any wars, in fact we've never had any dealings with ASCN before, so they're new to us in that sense.
Should we be regarding them as general pirates?

Some ASCN pilots do tend to pirate, though to clarify this you should really explain in what region you were in and what you were doing. ASCN is undergoing a massive invasion, you would be hard pressed not to find an ASCN pilot on edge. Perhaps some are more jumpy then others and fired on your ship?
I would not go and classify a three thousand plus member alliance as pirates from a single incident that was not even clearly defined.

By who's definition? Yours? Certainly not mine. Piracy is robbery. Most 0.0 kills are not done to rob the individual victims. And yes, you could say it's to rob people of space or their lives or so on... but I'm sure you know what I mean.

A good rule of thumb, don't trust anyone. If you don't know someone who enters the system, consider them a threat. If they didn't pirate you, someone else would have. ----

One of the major reason's ASCN will die is that the leadership maintains no real control on the body politic. The members are "told" to fight, and seige, and camp...but there is no inforcement. Many good members, combat pilots and industrialists have spent hours, weeks and days fighting for thier space, while many, and I mean a very large group, of alliance pilots simply go about thier daily lives as if they are not being ripped from each and every system they own.
I've seen ASCN members running missions, hanging out in empire locals chatting and I would in no way doubt picking on easy prey as the real enemies are breaching the walls of thier empire.
Until ASCN gets thier members in gear with the idea of saving the alliance, they will undoubtadly continue to lose ground.

Maybe all the carebears think that non-consentual PvP in low-sec is automatically piracy, regardless of whether or not you get ransomed...

NBSI is piracy outside of 0.0 unless there is a war-dec or unless u r fired on first. Of course this means that most alliances in the game do in fact pirate at some point - we just dont want to admit it (xelas ofc frowns on such things). Even shooting enemies in lo sec without a war-dec is piracy. Unless of course you refuse to pick up any loot in which case it should probably be classed as something else. Regardless of the semantics many alliances which think they are "anti-pirate" and dont operate nbsi will have members who do infact nbsi (i.e pirate). I think by anyones definition ganking a neutral doing missions in lo sec empire is piracy tho.

I guess you could say it's piracy unless you're flying in a region an alliance has overall sovereignty in. It makes sense, the alliance with sovereignty rule that area and as such this more or less makes their fleets the local law enforcement and you a tresspasser. However being where you were, it's piracy. S**t if I see someone who isn't friendly and CONCORD aren't around. I shoot them. Does that make me an ebil pirate? I hope so . Let's all say it now, YARRRRRRRRRRR

Edited by: Xelphior on 13/12/2006 02:32:36 They were shot in Khanid Region, which makes you think, ASCN are starting to cower from Band Of Brothers and Co. they now are hunting in low sec to try to make their kill boards look more intimidating with NPC'er kills and Miners. Real Tough. mind you with the Evacuation From Feth' the ASCN Home region in Stampede alert, i suppose they are starting to get aquainted with empire space life again. who knows? ASCN may just turn pirate in empire space when Feyth falls.
Coin Does and Doesn't Pirate, for example i dont hunt miners, and tend to avoid peeps ratting, but anyone who comes into friendly space without a blue mark on them, i shoot. thats not piracy thats Security patrols and keeping unwanted visitors out
