This is my level 3 mission runner Drake setup. The purpose of it, is to storm through level 3 missions and bookmark wrecks, and once the first wreck reached an age of ~1h45min start doing the cleanup - Cleanse and repeat! - Bit boring, but it gives a OK flow of fluffy ISK.
Needless to say, you want damage for doing that, and Drake (as it is in time of writing, at least) is not really that ganky a ship. It's limited how much you can increase it's damage, and when using more than 2 slots for damage mods the tank starts to take some high performance hits. I'm hard pressed to make the drake dish out the same damage as ie. a Myrmidon, but in a lot of missions you'll spend a lot of time scooping and redeploying drones when new waves spawn, and Heavy Drones aren't exactly athletic; here the range of the Drake seems to have overall performance, although not as high damage output.
I had to slowly test how small a tank I could pull through level 3 missions with (..had to warp out with 70% structure a few times in that testing - Got to love the rush! ^^ ). And the end results allow me to pull a few large groups at once and tank it, I can stress the tank but usually I end up with a stable regen at about down 20-25%. But for most missions, shield don't even go down to 60%. I'm running with static hardeners, I don't want to sit and replace hardeners between missions, I just want a 'no-brainer' mission runner. And it pulls though with the following setup, even the bonus room in Angle Extravaganza (questionable if it is worth doing the room if you look at the isk/time rate though).
Most my skills for this setup is level 4-5 skills, and you can add in some Hardwirings that help you get a bit more damage in the setup.
Enough of this chit-chatter, here is the setup:
High: 7x 'Arbalest' Heavy Missiles Launcher - Packing mostly Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy 1x Attached Toy Rabbit II
Mid: 1x Target Painter 2x Large Shield Extender II 1x Shield Recharger II 2x Invulnerability Field II
Low: 2x Ballistic Control System II 2x Shield Power Relay II
Rigs: 1x Warhead Calefaction Catalyst I 2x Core Defence Field Purger I
Drones: 5x Hobgoblin II
There it is. Most of it is Tech II stuff, if you haven't access to that you could go with T1 fits, and perhaps switch BCS out for SPR in the lows to the point where the tank holds, at the cost of damage.
The Toy Rabbit II is faction gear from Guristas and it's a small plush rabbit skull in a 2km chain that hangs from your ship, it brings me luck. You could switch it for for a tractor beam, but with practice you'll know which ship to approach from start, if a mission require you to pick something up. The target painter helps me bring down a lot of those small ships very fast, like the Guristas Jamming ships which can annoy me massively. I tried switching a BCS for a Backup Array, but it's chance based to the point that they jammed me anyway, and I went back for the damage module again.
I find the Drake terribly boring to fly, compared to ie. doing level 3 missions in a Pulse-fittet Prophecy or the Myrmidon. But a matter of fact, it's quite effective passive tank, and it's ability to engage at max lock range, makes it excel in a level 3 mission runner role, if you ask me.
Now go out and blow something up! (And no, Toy Rabbit II does not exist!) Enjoy, and fly safe..

step 1: get all of those modules (except the rigs) to TII, probably have to drop the tractor for fitting (maybe, i dunno) step 2: run lvl4s step 3: ??? step 4: profit
I run lvl4s with the exact same setup, except the launchers and hardeners are TII. it's slow, and getting missiles shot down by defenders sucks and is lame, but it works. __________________________________

is it possible to run lvl 4 missions with just 2x invul shields t2 for resistance or do you need the rat specific hardeners?
anyone tried with just 2 invul shields and how did it go? just the other day i tried a lvl 4 mission where i got surprised by 3 BS and a horde of cruisers warping in on me as i destroyed a lone BS in the mission, i wasnt exactly prepared for that sadly. I had to give up on that one.

The folling setup will tank 6 to 9 BSs in a lvl 4 mission depending on the dmg types.

I've been trying to build up my caldari skills for ratting in 0.0, and I just recently bought and fitted a drake. The problem is, my missile skills are low (im in 0.0 and i havent even had a chance to buy rapid launch or warhead upgrades yet, and heavy missiles is just lvl 3) and my shield tanking skills arent really that good either. I was able to fit the following...I can tank a 2xBS spawn for a while with it but not long enough to break its tank. I'm fighting sansha's btw.
7x limos heavy launcher (thermal ammo)
2xnamed active EM hardener, 1xnamed thermal hardener, 3xnamed LSE
1xBCS II, 1xPDS II, 2x SPR II
No drones...can't fit tech II's and there aren't any tech 1 hobgoblins or anything to buy down here.
I guess my question is...will upgrading to tech II LSE and hardeners, as well as getting heavy missiles to 4 and rapid launch and warhead upgrades to 3 or so make a world of difference? If not, I'm just going to skip on the passive tanking skills and start saving up for a Raven.

Sounds like you're seriously underarmed to be low sec ratting. A well fitted drake with good skills and implants can handle 6+ BS spawns pretty easily, you really need to work on getting your skills up to the T2 point if you want to rat in low sec. Missile skills are good to have, but you should work on survivability first.

Edited by: Kane Kuchera on 07/10/2007 22:44:36 I use the following; No trouble with Level 3 Missions and can do Level IV blockade with only one warp out.
High Slot Fittings: - 7x Heavy "Malkuth" Missile Launchers - 1x Small Tractor Beam
Medium Slot Fittings: - 1x Invulnerability Field II - 1x Photon Scattering Field II - 4x Large Shield Extender II
Low Slot Fittings - 4x Power Diagnostic System II
Rig Hardpoints - 2x Core Defence Field Extenders
Drone Deployment - 5x Light Shield Maintenece Bot OR - 5x Hobogoblin II
This setup is not the most powerfull, nor the most effective but it serves me nicely, and for a setup with rigs, not all that expensive either.
The DPS is obviously not too great here, but welcome to the Drake lol. I find that with my skills I can pull these missions through at speed without the need for a "Balistic Control System"
The Photon gives my shield some serious boosting by raising the EM resistnces and then the Invulnerability Field Boosts it again nicely.
- Many people forget about the Drakes drone bay, wich I think is careless. If you have some half decent drone skills, then use them. Whilst I tear into the Battlehsips my Hobo's are splitting off pulling all the little frigates apart. Makes my life easier. And for those missions that the tank can't hold out as well, just those 5 crappy shield rep drones make a hell of a difference.
As for ammo's I generally split it between 3 Thunderbolts, 1 Havoc, 1 Scourge & 2 Widowmakers.
Being a tad lasy I can't be bother swopping around for each mission so this way I generally have what I need. Plus it's nice to see different looking missiles zipping out of the invisible launcher nodes on the ship :D
Anyway, with some average-good missile skills & the same for drones. I find this setup is perfect for the "Lazy" mission runner. ie. The one who sits and rambles in a chat room whilst fighting, and as I already said, it isn't all that expensive.
and look, still a rig slot lef tto play with :D add a missile rig perhaps?

Take the usual 3 LSE, 3 resists, and swap out one of the resists for a warp scrambler. 1-2 bcu, 2-3 SPRs.
Seriously, active tanking one of these things gives you less survivability than all but the most expensive of faction shield boosters and amps, and those don't do you any good if you're being neut'd or nos'd. Your damage won't be amazing, but the drake will never do amazing damage.

Highs: 7x heavy launcher II's 1x whatever (salvager,tractor)
Mids: t2 ab, t2 invun, 2x t2 passive hardeners(thermal,kinetic), 2x t2 lse
Lows: 2x t2 spr's, 2x t2 bcu
Rigs: 3x purger I rigs
This ship does very well for me at all level 3's and the majority of lvl 4's latest was angel extravaganza and solo'd it very well still the time it takes in lvl 4's isn't that great but very survivable i change the mids up on occassion
Any comments would be helpful for any improvement

Shield rep drones? you cant use those on yourself, who are you trying to kid, plus use shield rep rigs not extenders will make your rep that much better. and use kin missiles, I know they are well resisted but it gets the missile bonus, and at bc lvl 5 it wont matter if its well resisted or not it will out dmg all the other types, aside from a few and far in between events. As far as the drone bay gos use kin drones as well, only makes sense to stack the dmg type to be more effective. yes you only get 5 missile slots but the trade off is you can tank 6 to 8 BS spawns. without having to try or warp out at all, this ship works in lvl 5s as long as ther arnt any carriers in it. ------------------------------------ Soni-Corp Co-CEO

This setup is cheap to fit, simple, and can tank forever.
Highs: -7x Heavy Missile Launcher of choice (Scourge, might as well take advantage of those bonuses.) -1x Utility of choice
Meds: -3x Large Shield Extender II -1x Invulnerability Field -2x Rat-Specific Hardeners (Or 1x EM, 1x Thermal if your one of those people who doesn't like to switch hardeners around.)
Lows: -4x Shield Power Relays (Makes shields recharge at an amazing rate.)
Rigs: -I haven't equipped any rigs yet but I think I'll probably stick with the passive tank theme and put on the shield recharge rigs. If this thing can tank well without the rigs, it should be extremely durable with these bonuses.
Drones: -5x T2 Drones of choice, I use Hobgoblin 2's to vary the damage type. (Micromanage your drones when fighting cruisers and larger. Always have them attack the same target and you'll blow through them much faster. After all, one less ship means less incoming fire.)
Now I'm extremely new to caldari and shield tanking, but this lets me run through lvl 3's and only lose about an eighth of my shield under constant fire.
Let me know what you think, as I said I'm new to this kind of ship and would appreciate any input.

(im caldari) which places offer quests against those "dreadguristas" or others which drops those godly items? :)

I see a lot of you have mixed active and passive modules with good success. I've only had my Drake for a few days and decided to run a completely passive setup. Here it is:
High slots:
6x "Arbalest" Heavy Missile Launchers Haven't decided what to use in the last two high slots.
Mid Slots:
3x LSE II 3x Shield Recharger II
Low Slots:
4x Shield Power Relay I (didn't see any sense in equipping T2 since the BRC unit has the same stats with 6 less CPU required per unit)
With all my shield skills trained to lvl 4, I've been able to get the following numbers:
Shield HP: 16595 Recharge rate: 113 Average regen: 142.85 Max HP regen: 352.46
Obviously, I fly thru lvl 2 missions without ever seeing my shield dip below 83%...even when aggroing entire rooms as a test run. Haven't been to lvl 3 yet, but I am excited to see what she can do tank-wise. I may eventually train shield skills to lvl 5, but the nearly two weeks of solid training doesn't seem worth it for the extra 40+ hp regen I'll get
Amyway, let me know what you think of this setup and if it can be improved

Pretty well tank for any 4 lvl without rewarps: High: 7x Heavy missile launcher II, tractor beam I Med: 3x Shield Extender II, 2x Invul II, Shield Recharger II Low: 2x Power Diagnostic Unit II, Damage Control II, Shield Power Relay II Rig: 3x Core Defence Shield Purger I Drone: 5x light II
My old friend, insane tank, not so bad dps even for BS. Any 4 lvl easy as the piece of cake. I can go to coffee even among 6-7 BS with support. For high dmg missions, Invuls II changed to the specified active resists.
Some days ago I start to flight with even more tanked ships - Rokh and Raven, based on Gist XL SB. But Drake is still in my heart and hangar.

Please, if I may, allow me to bestow my knowledge upon the threads...
Anyway, what I've so far come up with in my endless hours of tinkering and tweaking while listening to 'The Final Countdown' by Europe and waiting for skills train seems to be somewhere along the lines of a supertank when partnered with another person using a cap transporter, and a damn hard to break one alone.
Specs withs perfect skills: Total Effective HP-83167 Shield HP-16680 Total Recharge Time-148sec
Fitting: (High) 7x Heavy Missile Launcher IIs (Faction, if you like)
(Med) 2x Invul Field IIs 1x Magnetic Scattering Amp II 3x Large Shield Extender IIs
(Low) 4x Beta Reactor Control: Shield Power Relay Is (SPR IIs are no different at all, they just eat up 4 more points of CPU each...)
(Rigs) 3x Core Defense Field Purger IIs (Use T1 if ISK doesn't allow)
Simple and tough. Happy whatever-ing!

Is that setup for lvl3 or lvl4 missions? If it's for lvl3s i honestly dont know why anyone would need such a massive tank? A regen of 112 shield hp/s or 270 at peak performance? That's not even necessary for most lvl4 missions! Cmon dude, get real :)
If the setup is intended for lvl4s i ask myself how it is that you havent killed yourself of boredom? The DPS from that setup is below 200.
Switch at least 2 of the shield power relays to ballistic control units and you have a solid setup for lvl4 missions. If you are into lvl3s i only have to say one thing. Start running level 4 missions, ASAP! :)...imo it is a waste of time to run lvl3s with a tech2 fitted Drake.
Anyone else?

Highs: - 7x XR-3200 Heavy Missile Bay - 1x Small Tractor
Mids:
- 2x rat spesific hardener - 1x invul field - 3x LSE (1x tech2 and 2x f-s9 regolith, can't fit 3x tech 2 yet)
Lows:
- 1x PDS II - 1x BCU - 2x SPR II
Rigs: - 3x Purger I
From the looks of your tank your peak shield recharge rate is approximately at 130-150 hp/s? For most lvl4 missions you dont need that tough tank. Imo, with your skills you can easily fit 2xBCU Tech1 (get Tech2 ASAP!) and still get close to 100 shield recharge rate. If you drop the invul field and fit yet a third missions specific hardener + 2xBCUII in lows, you will speed up the mission completion rate alot and be able to afk some too.

hi, im a nub that just left trial phase ^^ but i got my drake now!
now my question is, what fitting should i use with my low skills (only tech1 pssible) to do level 3 missions, or is it just too early to do that?
atm i do level 2 quests very very easy.
i use - 5 hvy launcher - 2 assault launcher (light)
- 1 medium shield booster - 2 shield recharger - 3 large shield extender
- ballistic control unit - power diagnstic system - 2 shield power relay
tomorrow evening i will be able to use shield hardeners. so what do you suggest should i switch or change to be able to do level 3 missions solo.
thx in advance =)

I'll probably never fit those rigs in because they are a little pricey and I'm on a budget atm.
