Engineering 5 - more powergrid overall Electronics 5 - more CPU overall Covert Ops 5 - reduction in cruise launcher powergrid use.
Also, seriously, TP and and to a lesser degree sensor boosters, are a waste of a mid slot on a Manticore - unless you already have a dedicated tckler.

Not just Engineering and Electronics 5. You need Weapon upgrades and at least Advanced Weapon upgrades lvl 3. Prefferably lvl 4. If all else fails, use a True Sansha PDU. ^_^

Edited by: Carnor Jax on 19/02/2007 19:52:50 IMO, there is no need for a target painter in a manticore. 2 good sensor boosters, and 2 T2 Remote Sensor Dampeners ftw. The "secret" bonus takes care of needing a target painter I think.
*edit* this setup is hoping you have a dedicated tackler with you

Be careful of dictors, by the by. As a dictor pilot, the same rules apply to us as they do to intys: Cruise missiles explode too slowly to hurt. And that whole web trick someone mentioned... well, 7 guns say we break a bomber's tank before they break us ;)

If you read more carefully, you would notice that the whole web trick also included dampeners. So 2 dampeners and 1 web say that your 7 guns sit silent while the SB breaks your tank in short order.

I finally got a setup i'm very happy with. High: 3xCruise launchers 1xT2 cloaking device Medium: 2xSensor boosters 2xT2 Remote Sensor Dampener Low: BCU Nano
I love how my ship goes faster cloaked than not cloaked. :) And I can hit targets at around 140k...though missiles will always have the problem of it taking forever to actually get to the target.

Edited by: Max Hardcase on 23/02/2007 19:06:44 well vs ~interceptors which are ~25 sig radius you will still lose a fair bit of cruise damage due to the explosive radius being 40m with lvl5 guided missile precision. Ofcourse they better be not moving too fast or you're SOL anyways.

Well, since a large portion of that stealth part of Stealth bomber relies on NOT being targetted it makes sense to postpone that from happening as much as possible.

right, i understand that but I dont have any skills in sensor dampening and it seems like you'd have to give up some range on the cruise missiles to use sensor dampeners. could you get away w/ a sensor booster and 3 ecm's?

if your going to try and kill a frig maybe but that still not that good if you get 3 hypno's at 2.1 thats only 6.3 do you think you could jam someone with that not likely so use somethiung that can cut the range down instead and you will live longer and with range cut you can get out in time( if they are getting too close)

That's now how ECM works. You don't get 6.3 total, you get three attempts at 2.1 strength. And ECM is horrible on bombers, you have nowhere near enough cap to use it effectively.

I dont bother with target painters. As far as i'm concerned they are useless because the manticore's explosion radius bonus already makes me hit for full damage on almost everything. Why would you use them against interceptors? Just because of the small sig radius? big deal. It will just take an extra missile to kill them. I'm not wasting a mid slot just in case i run into an inty. And besides, if an inty is MWD'ing, his sig radius is already the size of a cruiser anyway.
I used to play around with a small blaster or even a smart bomb in the extra high slot but powegrid never allowed me to do it just right so i just forgot about it. Maybe a nos would be cool but i never actually got into those things, either.
Never seen a manticore hit my inty for more than 10-5 damage max...
The BOB crow that I popped yesterday with similar middle setup says different

Bombers pop inties if the inties are webbed. Most of the time. Blasterranis or similar DPS-inties could come out on top.
Nonetheless, I would advise a webber on any bomber setup. I've popped quite a few inties/T1 frigs in my Manti by getting them webbed. ECM also have the heavy cap use drawback.

you do need good skills to fit this, but that always helps you do need a tackler, you can 1 volley a inty once its webbed.

Post Revelations, any thoughts about rigs to install on this puppy? Pretty much don't have the skills to run one effectively so working on that, but what rigs would help the ship live to it's fullest potential? I can pretty much build most of the T1 rigs ATM, and can train for the others, but IF I am going to build something to install on the Manticore, what should go on?
T1? T2? Type?
Thanks for any advice. ( I so love the one shot, one kill type of runs...)

I've been Running the #'s on the manticore and unless theres something I'm missing
3x Cruise 1x Imp Cloak
2x Dampeners 1x SB 2 1x Painter
1x BCU 1x PDU
is not possible Electronics 5 takes the CPU from 245 to 306.25
Arbalest x3 = 129.6 (with Weapon upgrade 5) Improved Guise Cloak 2 = 51
Named Painter = 16 Named Remote Sensor damps = 56 Sensor Booster 2 = 10
BCU 2 = 40 Named PDU = 12 (energy grid upgrades 5)
for a Total of 314.6 with a Difference of +8.35
so what am I missing

I've tried that layout in quickfit with lvl 5 energy management, and almost any skill related to energy at lvl 5, the capacitor dies very quickly, so i swapped out a low slot for a cap relay, died out again, then another, cap lasted longer, but did eventually die.
I'm just wondering, is the layout designed for instant uncloak and a 1 shot off type fight, or is it like i am trying it for aka fleet ops?

Originally by: Victor Ivanov Yes, the Stealth Bombers of this world have to endure a lot of hurtful discrimination. The ignorant bigots of the nation take great pains to keep us down. But in fact, a Stealth Bomber is more than capable of taking down a tier 2 BC by itself. You laugh?
Well, I am willing to concede the point that a stealth bomber is best fitted for fleet ops. You need a tackler to keep the enemy in place, or they will be able to warp off. Which is a shame of course.
However, properly fitted, the Manticore can not only be quite a valuable asset, but also be tons of fun to play. For me personally, some of my greatest moments in EVE were spent flying in a SB. I never tire of the "What the hell" messages typed in local as I uncloak and blast my unsuspecting victim to smithereens before they have time to react.
Now, let's get to fitting, shall we?
Highs: 3 x Cruise Launcher. 1 x Cloaking device t2. Meds: 1 x Sensor Booster t2, 2 x Remote Sensor Dampeners, 1 x Target Painter Lows: 1 x BCU, 1 PDU 2
Now, let me elaborate on my reasoning behind this setup. For a SB, there are a few things which are different about my setup. First of all, it lacks a passive targeter, which is commonly used to give you that valuable 2 seconds confusion time, where the enemy is unaware that he is being shot at. However, with 2 dampeners, a ships locking range is decreased by about 75% (A tad less, but let's use round numbers now, shall we?)
Most people would also say "Fit as many BCU's on there as you can". In itself, a very valid point. But you must remember that it is a frigate, and thus has very limited CPU and PW. Fitting a second BCU t2 gives you a 1 second faster RoF, and a slightly higher damage. But, it also stops you from using a second dampener and target painter, plus that your cap is going to be absolutely horrid.
Thus, we use the target painter to make up for the lack of a second BCU. That works quite well, as a matter of fact. The PDU t2 gives you slightly more hp, slightly more cap and a slightly faster recharge rate. Which is pretty darn nice for a manticore to have.
To summarize: Warp in at a 100, cloak. Find a good spot to shoot from, allign to a cluster of celestial objects, uncloak, turn on booster, lock, activate all modules, fire untill enemy either gets dangerously close, dies or warps out. If things get dangerous, cloak or warp out. You should be full speed alligned at all times if engaging an enemy.
My two cents. Hope it helped. :)
Best setup so far i have tried :)

Please do explain how the target painter serves you so well that you sign such a setup? Or actually, please, anyone, explain to me what a target painter is doing on a stealth bomber?
All it does is increase an inty's sig size to near-your-missile's explosion radius-> Which matters nothing when the inty's still outrunning your explosion velocity.

I'd have to disagree with that.
I just got my cov-ops to lvl 5 and it indeed lessened my launcher's grid usage. At lvl 1 cov-ops, I couldn't even fit 3 launchers and a decent mid-slot setup together. Took cov-ops lvl 3 to fit almost everything I wanted.

Covert Ops Skill Bonus: 5% reduction in Cruise Launcher powergrid needs and 25% bonus to cloaked velocity per level
