Im using a drake for the job.
4 Salvager, 2 tractor beams, 2 arbalest assault missiles. MWD, invul T2 * 2, cap recharger 2 and t2 large shield extender. 1 inertia stab and 4 (or 3??) cargo expanders.
5 small drones
I salvage in 0.0, so i have to tank the rats while I salvage, so the natural resists of the drake help a lot. You may ask: Why not the ferox? Cause I had a drake at hand. I kill with the rokh, and then I come back with the drake.

Don't forget that using a Destroyer with 6 Salvager I's and 2 Tractor Beams, will allow enough grid for a 10mn Afterburner, giving you ~1500 ms speeds without the need for a Cap guzzling MWD. Also, go with a Cormorant, or at least a Thrasher... The extra mid slots are needed for Capacitor modules.
The more mids you have working on your capacitor the longer you can salvage.
All in all, I use a Thrasher for my set up, just wish that the loot tables were fixed so that you find at least one item each wreck, looting 30 some ships with nothing to show for it is real discouraging- and annoying as hell.

I use a Catalyst (Gallente Destroyer) as a mission looter / salavager.
High: 4 x Tractor 4 x Salvager
Med: 1 x MWD (some loot is 40 km away which is a long wait with an AB) 1 x Named Cap charger
Low: 3 x expanded cargo holds
The good: *roughly 650 m3 of space witch is enough for even angel extravaganza. *efficient: can tractor in four, then loot and salvage *can keep four wrecks in tow while moving for salvaging on the go
The bad: *cap problems galore, 4 x salvagers eat cap and the MWD -25% cap hurts this especially *you need high targeting skill to get the most out of this setup. (tractoring in 4 to your position all the while salvaging another four you just finished looting)

however not with the patch cargo is not going to matter because the size of the salvage materials was from from 1.0 to 0.1. so now any ship can salvage for a longer period of time.

Sabre - 2xSalvager - 3x 200mm IIs - 2x rockets - Improved CloaK -
MWD II - Medium Shield Ext II - Small Shield Ext II
2x Local Inertial stabs =(just over 4800ms)(i have a couple speed implants)
Cargo - 3x small secure containters give you an extra 60m3 (460m3, no expanders) with remaining 100m3 cargo hold for salvaging and ammo.
Very good for 0.2 ratting, and just cruising around salvaging wrecks in hostile space.

I'd toss my hat into the "Catalyst" ring as well, with a 4/4 split, AB, and cap rechargers as needed. They key with "efficient" salvaging is being able to always have a "new" wreck coming into the Salvagers. I find 4/4 keeps me constantly dragging in new wrecks given my skills. And I current run a Cap Recharger and a Power Relay (IIRC), which keeps my cap decently full.
If the cargo hold fills up, pop a jetcan and come pick it up later with an Industrial. I use the Indy to move the Catalyst and mission gear around, so it's just gathering dust.
And I have to change my signature, too. :(
My avatar is a disembodied head. Nifty. Darn it, they fixed it. |

the I win in mission running and salvagin
The dominix.
Enter mission and unleash your drones .. while they play around and clean up the place you have all your high slots filled with tracts / salvagers and take care of the loot / wrecks Afterburner in mids and tank in low [it already has a decent cargo hold] you will be done with salvaging when your drones are done with the mission time effecient. >--- A properly flown and fitted manticore is like a flatulant Ninja. I loot and salvage after finishing missions. I was using a Catalyst but I was running out of cap and salvaging with less than three salvagers just takes too long for my liking. Now I use a Drake. 4 Tractors, 4 Salvagers, cap regens and an AB, plus expanders to activate as need be. Maybe uses 33% of my available cap and its fast enough for salvaging lvl 3 and 4 missions.
Besides, I needed an excuse to buy a Drake.

Gotta agree with the Dominix people here. I think it's one of drones hidden advantages that you can trade out guns for tractors and salvagers without much loss. Makes it better overall runner than Raven.
I'm only doing lvl3s maybe 4's have so many wreks it is worth it but I can't imagine flying 1 or 2 jumps back to were some specialized salvage ship is then flying it to my mission(s), I tend to do 2-3 at atime, to salvage them.
So much faster and funner to loot as you shoot. Pralay |

I use the arbitrator to do lvl 1 missions just let the drones do the work and then salvage it with a Executioner i have: 1x Salvager 1x Hydropropelant afterburner 1x Small Capacitor Battery It works great since i'm still training for a tractor beam.

Looks Like I win the most expensive looter Prize! Thrasher
High 4 Tractor 4 Salvagers Meds Gistii x Type AB (1MN) Cap recharger II Lows 2x Cargo extender II Rigs 2x Salvaging tackle 1x Cargo expander
I also Use a large container in my hold to get the extra 120 m3 that it gives for a total of 890m2 of loot, and now that the salvage is tiny, I never run out of room or cap, can clear a 5 room L4 in about 20 mins. I suppose I've spent the better part of 200 mil on the destroyer tho...

Ship: Sigil
Highs: 2x Salvager I
Mediums: 1x 10MN Afterburner II 1x Sensor Booster II 1x Cap Recharger II
Lows: 5x Local Hull Conversion Nanofiber Structure I
Rigs: 3x Salvage Tackle I
Summary: With decent skills this ship can go over 1Km/s, turn on a dime, hold around 3,000m^3, never run out of cap, and salvage about 3/4 of all cycles. The only downside is cost, but that's easily made back from the time saved after a dozen level 4 missions or so.
Beat that!

sry - i prefer speed and the "freedom" of a large conti, therefore
Stabber 4x Salvager I 2x Tractor Beams 10mn AB (keep going for the next can while pulling&diggin) 10mn MWD (for the distant cans) Large Capacitor Battery II Local Hull Nanofiber (700+ m/s still works "ok" with tractors) 2x Cargo Expander II (682m¦ become 780+32m¦ with a large conti)

I use a Coercer:
HI: 4x Tractor, 4x Salvager MID: 1x T2 Afterburner LO: 4x Cap Power Relay
Can run all 4 tractors & all 4 salvagers, with the AB. Meaning I'm always dragging 4 wrecks along, salvaging them, while flying within 20 km of the next wrecks. Very handy after finishing a mission like Blockade.

Cormorant:
3 Salvagers 5 Tractors MWD + CAP rechargers in mids Expanded Cargo 3 Salvage Tackle !!!
The last part is the MOST important one. Before I fitted the tackle's, I had to have 5 salvagers to keep up with 3 tractor beams hauling in wrecks. Now I have almost the double amount of tractors, use (way) less cap, and move between wreck groups extremely fast.
In short, my salvaging speed has about doubled because of the tackle's, so fit 'em. Even though they cost a bit, you can build them yourself, and earn the money back fast by salvaging much faster....
General advice: Stop whining! |

I use a Catalyst for salvaging after missions too. I just started and I have:
4 x Tractor Beam 4 x Salvager I
Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters Cap Recharger II
3 x Beta Mod Hull Overdrive Injector I
I have no problems with it so far while salvaging level 3 missions.

Best fitting for your favorite salvage dessy:
Highs: 4x tractor, 4x salvager Mids: AB & whatever Lows: Cap Power Relays, nanos/inertial stabs. Rigs: 3x salvage tackle I
Tractor 3 wrecks & 1 jetcan for those annoying bits of scrapmetal. 3x salvagers usu/ work in a single cycle with 3x rigs fitted (50%+ salvage chance). If you can fit 2x salvage tackle II you'll have a vastly improved salvage chance.

I like the myrmidon
3 tractors 3 salvagers 100mn ab low slots are all nanofibers some cap recharge, tech 2 medium drones, medium repair drones, and tech 2 light drones.
You can repair the combat ship, assist the combat ship, and salvage at the same time.
Slap on a salvage rig, and you're done.

My salvage ship is a Probe. Good cargo capacity and velocity.
2 x Salvager 1 x 1MN Afterburner 1 x Small Capacitor Battery 1 x Salvage Tackle rig 2 x Light Drones (just in case)
With a Salvage skill of 3, I'm salvaging almost as fast as I can loot. I do my looting after destroying everything in a mission, mind, although if there are a lot of wrecks, I sometimes loot the cargo with my combat ship, so I don't have to make multiple trips.
Even without the rig, I was salvaging pretty fast. (And if you're curious, the cap battery is more for warping long distances than powering the Salvagers.)

Was using a Catalyst. Now using a Brutix for both mission salvaging and ratting.
Missions: Hi: 4 x Tractor, 3 x Salvager Mid: T2 AB, Sensor Booster, Large Capacitor, T2 Cap Recharger Low: 5 x Expanded Cargohold II
Ratting: Hi: 2 x T2 Ion Blaster, 2 x Tractor, 2 x Salvager Mid: T2 AB, X5 Webber, Large Capacitor, T2 Cap Recharger Low: T1 Med Repper, 4 x Expanded Cargohold II
Drones: 5 x T1 Hammerheads
Rigs: 3 x Salvage Tackle I
It's tougher than the Catalyst. Carries more drones and doesn't have to depend on support from corpmates.

Originally by: Tribunal Seriously though, a typhoon has been working great. I can move ~1200 m/s, have ~1400m3 cargo, and can turn on a dime.
That must be one very LARGE dime.
I currently use Inquisitor to salvage:
4xSalvager I 1xCold-Gas Arcjet AB 2xNanofiber, 1xCap Relay
701 m/s, 315 m3, nice turning. It's a great light salvager, and what I do is place one in my agent system as well as all of the surrounding systems. Cheap and quick, lets me salvage in-system without going back to complete the mission. However, 315 m3 isn't really enough for L3 or L4 missions. So I've been looking at these possible setups:
"Salvage Stabber" 2xTractor, 4xSalvager I (or 1 and 5?) 10MN MWD I, 2xLarge Cap Battery II 3xExpanded Cargohold II
Would give 860.32 m3, 1863 m/s MWD speed (257 m/s base speed). Should be able to run MWD nearly continuously. Stabber also has better overall inertia than a destroyer, but you only get 6 highslots. From my research, the ideal salvage ship would seem to be:
Eris 2xTractor, 6xSalvager 1xAB II, 1xSmall Cap Battery II 3xExpanded Cargo II, 1xNano II
819.35 cargo, 906.06 AB speed (396.4 base speed). Plenty fast without MWD, can salvage without mission completion. Eris sells for under 10M also, so I SUPPOSE you could place 5 or 6 in multiple systems. The only issue is the skills needed. I plan to fly Gallente inties anyway, and I have high perc/will so I might just go for it.
Running the numbers, I don't see how anyone runs MWD on any salvage ship smaller than a cruiser. The energy hit and overall drain are enormous, you could only use the MWD in bursts really. People claim to do it, though, but I think they must be dealing with serious cap issues...

I use a Cormorant with 3 salvagers and 5 tractors. I got my salvaging skill up to lvl 5 and I filled the rig slots with that thingy that'll help salvaging.
I advocate pumping the salvaging skill up to lvl 5, because if you look at the time you spend in missions, about half the time is spent killing and the other half is spent puttering around salvaging and looting.
You can cut down the salvaging part of the time by training just one skill up to the max, compared to the myriad skills you gotta pump up to be good on the combat side of things.
My 3 salvagers will process the wrecks faster than my 5 tractors can bring them in. Salvaging skill to lvl 5 is a must for serious mission runners.

I run the MWD on my Thrasher in bursts. Normally there are clusters of wrecks within 20km of each other - warp towards them, do a bit of tractor beam wizardry whilst maneuving to bring them closer together and then stop. Salvage and loot ... move on to the next cluster.
I'm not sure on my setup but IIRC I have 4 tractors, 4 salvagers, a 1MN WMD, 2x Cap battery or recharger ( can't remember which ), 1 Cargo expander and a Capacitor Power relay.

A Dominix with only drones for DPS will take a lot longer than a properly flown other ship to finish any level 4 mission and loot/salvage the BS wrecks (which are really the only ones worth salvaging if you are after isk/time). I guess if you salvage EVERYTHING this approach might work, but doing that is wasteful in the first place.
And the best salvager is indeed the Hurricane. Can fit both MWD and AB at one time for salvaging finished and nonfinished missions. Can run the MWD indefinitely, has fairly good agility AND fairly good cargo capacity. Only downside is it being more expensive. But what is 30 mil to a good mission runner...

I actually prefer the Cyclone, because it has the same speed, same cargo hold, same number of High slots and it costs a good 20 million less. It can also shield tank where tanking is needed (leaving lows for carge expanders) and looks much more like a rustbucket salvaging ship The Hurricane is too pretty for that purpose.
