rails are not a non native weapons system to caldari everyone says this but they are totally wrong, or we wouldnt have multiple ships with rail bonuses. if rails arent native to caldari then why doesnt the cormorant just have 8 hardpoints for light missle launchers for example.

Quoting from the Phoenix Description: In terms of Caldari design philosophy, the Phoenix is a chip off the old block. With a heavily tweaked missile interface, targeting arrays of surpassing quality and the most advanced shield systems to be found anywhere, it is considered the strongest long-range installation attacker out there.
The "Caldari Design Philosophy" is very simply: Missiles + EWar/Jamming + Shield tanking.
Shield tanking means trading med slot items used in locking an opponent down - webs, scrams, and speed mods. And caldari ships are insanely slow, we can never outrun anyone. Which means the only ships we can tank, and still have these mods, are ships with natively high resistances - T2 ships like the cerberus, nighthawk, and eagle.
Missiles means we have guaranteed hits* and can change damage types, but it also means that we cannot fight at 60+ KM. (*guaranteed as long as fighting NPCs or enemies who are too dumb to warp out).
EWar and Jamming have been nerfed. The rook and falcon are now very expensive, almost useless ships. They aren't useless, they're just of marginally more use than a blackbird for 20 times the isk.

And now that Jamming has been completely slaughtered as a weapon, the Falcon and Rook are pretty much worthless. EW is dead, and yet we don't have any ships set up to do any remote sensor damping, or long range scrambling, or webbing, or nosing.
At least you have defensive EW, and its still decent if you fit for it. When was the last time you saw a Bellicose? Its been a LONG time since I have. What other T1 ship can't be found in its own races systems? It can't even fit ECM, cause its been nerfed lol.

Ok, all you people complaining about how much the Rokh sucks are stupid. With 3 damage mods and a tracking enhancer, Both 8 Blasters and 8 rails do pretty good DPS for me and my gunnery skills suck. It's been great with Blasters, I've dueled against a Megathron and Hyperion where he has far more SP in gunnery than I do and I ate through his tank before he could touch me every time, no matter how he tried to change his setup. 8 named Neutrons, T2 XL shield boost, T2 Invuln/EM/Therm hardeners, T2 heavy cap booster, T2 boost amp, RCU, T2 tracking enhancer, 3 T2 magstabs, and a Kin shield rig. That gives pretty good damage, insane resists, and a large amount of cap. Have someone else tackle, who needs an MWD with warp to 0 and the range those blasters have. - Someone save me from this Sanity. |

Originally by: DHB WildCat So after testing with the ship myself and trying to kill a few of them I have decided on the fact that there is only 1 real set-up for this ship. Yes in fleet fights go for range but it cant kill anything!!!! Fit this ship with 8 Nos, and a tank from hell and cap injectors. Then hope your gang can kill the targets because this ship cannot,
Oh, so they're seeing the guns aren't all they're hyped up to be. They're seeing that gun DPS at 100km SUCKS compared to missiles.
THE ROKH: The thing that FINALLY convinces people that guns need a buff. Because if the Caldari say it needs a buff, it has GOT to be true!
It's great playing Caldari-online, isn't it?

Comparing theoretical max dps is kinda pointless. Yes, the mega does a wee bit more, but it doesn't really matter. The situation for it to actually happen is so rare. What matters however is the dps you can push under the conditions you normally engage in. This depends heavily on your FC. Normally this will be, how much dps can you push to a target 200-220km away moving at 150m/s. with a sig rad of about 400... This is where the Rokh shines and has no peers. It can reach there no swet without targeting computers. Or with just a T1 fit, with TCs. This gives the best effectiveness/(Cost-InsuransePayout) ratio in game, making it The number 1 tool in alliance level conflicts. Yes, it is also a good bait ship, but there are cheaper more viable alternatives. It really shines in what it does best. As the king of fleet BS.
As for caldari not being a rail race. Missiles were not always a primary weapon system. As a conseptual weapon they were flushed down the toilet as soon as they were made a primary weapon. They used to be something special, something to be feared and a kind of a more rare weapon you really had to look out for and try to counter. Now, it's just an alternative way of pushing out dps, and it's kinda sad... ___ P.S. Post with your main. Mind control and tin hats |

Well, for starters, crows are very good solo (1v1 inties and not only inties, it can potentially wtfpwn many other frigs solo depending on setups e.g. it would ruin my uber-dmg enyo's day). I also think, haven't tried it yet though, that drake may be good for solo ganking. Even raven can be good solo and of course Cerberus.
On the other hand, not many situations rly involve 1v1 these days. At least in 0.0 it's usually our blob v your blob (or at least our 4-5 men gang v you 4-5 man gang). I won't get into whether this is good or bad, but it's true.
Soooo, for gang I think rokh is a nice ship really. Of course it's very good in many fleet situation. e.g. 1: it can stay outside enemy range and be invulnerable with some good positioning. e.g. 2: it can use T1 ammo=cheap fittings and/or noobs actually taking part in large fleet battles. e.g. 3: It can use blasters in small gangs and still have more or less insta damage (whereas mega's need to fit rails to actually get in mails most of the times).
Of course saying Caldari's shouldn't use hybrids is just plain stupid and I won't get into that.
All in all I think rokh is a decent ship with its weaknesses of course, but at least at par with rest of tier 3 BS's if not the best of them.

rokh is dangerous in a rokh group setup for crossfire in a firing range sphere. Rokh 200km to the left> *target* <Rokh 200km to the right. If you think this way, it's one hell of a distance to cross

Use Webifier Drones, a tracking disruptor and a warp disruptor II and your good to go against bs of all choice.
The Nos Domi is overpowered, not really a ship you should compare the rokh against.

A few points.
1) the op seems to be an idiot. 2) nothing wrong with his idea tho, the rokh makes a very nice nosship as bait. 3) the rokh makes a better fleet sniper than nosship. 4) the rokh makes a better close range blasterboat than sniper. 5) passive tanking ftw (no cap = no need for nos = high slots can actually be useful)

Is it just me or are 90% of the Caldari pilots out there just dumb as rocks? HELLO? Get creative with your setups. Even more, TRAIN SOMETHING OTHER THAN MISSILES YOU IDIOTS.
Suck it up and branch out from something other than your lame ass missile skills. I'm skilled up in drones, hybrids, AND missiles (t2 heavies on the Lachesis or Drake FTW). Torps and Nos are fine on the Rokh, but using Neutron IIs and null and hitting at 30km+ is just awesome. No other ship in the game has that kind of DPS at that range. Period.
Think about it. 8x Neutron IIs, 3 damage mods, and 30km range. That's nuts. Further more, the Rokh is so increadably flexible it's just crazy. With a ton of mids, I can lightly armor tank it (Large rep, DC2, EANM2), still have room for 3x damage mods, and use the mids for a TON of tackling (3 T2 24km warp scrams *and* a web). Works GREAT for those scumbag carebear stab wh#res.
Heavy tackler anyone? Heck, you can even drop the web and fit another point on there, or go really nuts and drop your MWD and fit 5. And this is assuming you don't fit 2 point scrams- then you'd have 10 points on. Enough to hold down even a 100% stabbed out Geddon.
The Rokh is brilliant. It just requires more than a few missile skills to use, and *gasp* may require some other exotic skills like armor tanking and drones to be used effectively. OMG, imagine that!?

**** dps?
Ok tell me 8 Neutrons with 50% better range than megathron (that means a much more flexible range of engagement) is ****y damage?
It does more damage than a raven (realistic damage against a random BS or BC) and tanks better. What else you want?

Edited by: Laboratus on 12/03/2007 12:55:31 Considering that it lasted for over a minute, made one of you warp away it was pretty uber. Not many ships can compete against 3 ships one of which is a faction ship, one EW cruiser of optimal type and a Nos domi... How long would your mega would have lasted against that damage? Domi+mega+arbi should do about 2.5k-3k dps so it was a miracle he lasted as long as he did.
Edit: Just realised, I replyed to a necro

I'm absolutely maxed for rails (exception large spec IV) and the damage is poor with rails. That's why I'm training to fly a scum ship (Mega).
I've tried the Rokh with tech I blasters and its not too hot tbh.

Finally someone got it right. 100/100 points.
Quote: Jack of all trades, Master of none. Caldari 4TL. (Once again, Thanks Devs.)
1/100 points. 1 point for the Caldari dissing. The Rokh is actually 'master' of range, mid to long range damage (due to ammo) and tank. Please tell me why 'Caldari' is a bad choice, especially considering all the masses of Caldari players? Easiest to fly and probably best fleet sniper, best mission cruiser, battlecruiser and battleship plus awesome passive tanks on Rokh and Drake = 4tl? I don't think so, Tim.

I`ve got few Rokhs, and sadly lost them, so I have mixed impression about this ship. It`s really useful range bonus, and pretty good armor resistance bonus, but it`s one thing annoying me in almost all Caldari ships, it`s not enough med slots mostly because of shield tanking, so you must chose for example between sacrificing shield resistance or shield extension and really needed devices like MVD, Cap Boosters Target painters etc. Also I want admit really low amount of capacitor energy, it’s great problem when MVD is fitted and all 8 weapons are active.
I can see Rokh only in role of a gang or fleet sniper.
Once I have fit it with 8 Blasters, MVD, Cap booster. And what do you thing I have got ?! Right ! I’ve got slowly ship with 120 000 000 kg mass, that’s why when you try to approach target in 40 km distance you will loose all you capacitor because Rokh will not achieve its maximum sped and will move quite slowly, you will need permanent cap recharge, cos 70% will be spend by MVD and other 30% will disappear in one moment when you will activate blasters, I even don’t say anything about active resistance plates if you gather how to pot them without outputting devices needed to support.
So what we totally have if we decided to use close combat Rokh, Slowly ship, Small amount of capacitor, horrible maneuvering and speed even with MVD, and the worth’s is that you will not have med slots to fit shield resistance and extension.
In this case, Gallente ships without a doubt have total superiority, they might have really great tank and resistance using low slots and in the same time have enough med slots for all kinds of devices.
PS But it`s one more reason except for range bonus I`m using this ship, as for me it`s the most likable BS in EvE.

Why the hell would you want to approach a target? You outrange him , let him do the approach, while hitting him from 30km... with blasters.
And if he's hitting you at 40km , he's prolly a sniper anyway, so you easily outdamage/outtank him at say 25km.
Hell, the best thing about the Rokh is the range and you're approaching targets?!

By the way, it’s many situation when you must approach your target, for example in battle with 2 gang involved about 30 ppl total, or most outstanding situation when you meet Drake somewhere in 0.0 he will hold distance about 40 km and successfully attacked you with missiles...
