Yes they get range bonus but do sh*t dps. So here is a little story and the only set-up for a rohk.
Three of us your running around low sec looking for kills. We had been in a 0.4 system for half an hour or so and decided to jump into a 0.5 system. Lo and behold we find ourselves a rohk! sweet, we all say on ts, and we ask ourselves were this Tier 3 Battleship pilot is going to go. So we sit and watch him. It takes him 15 seconds to get up to spped and warp after he jumped in, and to our immense pleasure he had warped to the gate that we had come from. So we give chase. My two friends beat him to the gate and jump in as he comes out of warp. So we have a nano Domi, and arbitrator now waiting for him on the other side. Both have T2 drones and NOS. I am just behind the Rohk in my Navy Meg and jump in with him. I uncloak and approach the gate while the others have drones out and wait for me to grab agro from the sentry guns. This Rohk is set-up with full T2 tank and cap injector, with Nuetron Blasters. He uncloaks and I scramble him and grab aggro from his guns and the sntries. Then all three of us proceed to pound away at him. I have him webbed (thankfully). The fight is 1 minute and 30 seconds long when he begins to shoot the arbitrator. The arby though has him tracking distrupted so he cannot hit our cruiser, but the sentries soon make our cruiser warp off. The rohk then proceeds to hit me again. My only concern was from his T2 mediums and the sentries. The rohk gets no bonus to gun damage so he was hitting me for 20-40 with every gun lol. Anyways 3-4 minutes after the fight had begun We finally killed him. Grabbed the loot and hit a safe to wait out aggression.
So after testing with the ship myself and trying to kill a few of them I have decided on the fact that there is only 1 real set-up for this ship. Yes in fleet fights go for range but it cant kill anything!!!! Fit this ship with 8 Nos, and a tank from hell and cap injectors. Then hope your gang can kill the targets because this ship cannot, but this ship in my opinion (besides faction BS, and capital ships) has the best T2 tank in the game, some may argue that fact but in my opinion it is!

The dmg output is worse than the megas' ofc, but not as much worse as u think, and in my oppinion it makes up that and more with its tank

Hyperion is not too shabby either. Very cap intensive, but it can really take a pounding.
Sadly this ship, like most Caldari ships, fails in solo ventures when you try to tank it out the ass. In a gang where you can have someone do the tackling for you, the Neutron setup is golden, albeit slow as hell. Solo, trying to fit a full tank + scramble + web + propulsion mod is nothing but suicide. ____________________________

I agree that a hyperion can tank too, but our same group came accross a duel lar full T2 tanked Hyperion and absoultely rap*d it! It took us 40 seconds to take it down. He had cap boosters and everything, even a faction EAN. Just to further emphasize the rohks tank

Lower base resists, dual LAR II's, 25% cap penalty from a microwarp drive, all while being NOS'd could be a factor! ____________________________

if it did get a damage bonus it'd hit you for 25-50 damage per shot at Battleship 5, so it probably had to do with the player's skills.

Well i think its a good fleet ship. Can easily fit 8x425mm rails and still have a good tank too. Sure, you need some fitting skills for that and fit pds2 or rcu.
Only trouble is hitting small ships with 8 of such large guns :D Even when you fit tracking speed items. 70km range with antimatter can be sweet.

concidering we¦re dealing with blasters and then have them mounted on a ship with bonuses to even further enhance the dmg of the guns, i¦d say you should be happy that the rohk even gets that close to the DPS of the Megathron. Imo the Blasterthron should be THE hardest hitting non-capital ship in the game. Just be happy i aint a Dev .

So you took down one turret battleship with 1 turret dirsupting cruiser, 1 Speed Oridented Drone Battleship, and 1 Gank oriented battleship and you then declare it to suck?
Some questions.
[About Damage] are you sure it had blasters and not rails fitted?
[About other ships]Is there any other turret based ship you would expect to survive that ganksquad or taken down a ship in that gank squad?

4-5 heavy nos depending on cap skills. Full on shield tank Damage mods and damage control
Fit the highs with the best blasters you can fit. If I had decent gunnery I would have done100x better on sisi before kali. What ever I say is my own views and not of my corp. |

So basically you have no evidence to support why the Rokh should mount NOS in the highs and tank instead of trying to tank, you have no other base by witch to judge the Rokh and you think that people are going to shoot the Rokh while it "tanks like an f'ing *****" and not just kill its gang members.
Then you delcare that the Rokh sucks and "only has one setup".
I think you need to re-examine the situation.

You'd cycle targets and kill the Rokh last surely?
Either way, the Rokh's strengths lie in two areas. Firstly, using high damage ammo at silly ranges, where other races would need to use lower damage ammo. That's like having a built in damage bonus. Secondly, the extreme range sniping we all know and love.
A close range Rokh, though, should always be mounting nos. And if it's passively tanked, it should be using neuts. Cap warfare > all thanks to the extremely well thought out hp changes and the commonality of battleships with ubertanks.

You guys forget you have to armortank a mega and hyperrion meaning you usually have 1 or 2 slots at most for damage mods (unless you go for full gank ofcourse), while you can happily have 3 damage mods and still have a strong tank for a rokh especially with the shield resistance bonusses.
You wont do as much damage as a hyperrion or mega, but it makes up for it having gank + tank and having range bonus, so you can basicly use void all the time isntead of having to switch over to null when the target is too far away.

The Rokh is basically good in one situation only: Fleet sniper. 8x 425 (t1) +2t2 XL SB, 2x T2 Invul, 1x Electro Inj (800's), 2x T2 Sensor Boosters 2x T2 MagStab, 2x T2 Tracking Enhancers, 1x T2 RCU
200km optimal with Iron, 140km Optimal Iridium, 65k Optimal AM That's with Large Rails @ lvl 4
The problem is that aside from this role this ship sucks.
RE: Weapons
425's do crap damage. Drone bay is useless as an offensive weapon. DPS in this ship is a joke- almost any ship at cruiser and above can outperform.
RE: Defensive Capabilities Solid Tank - the only saving grace. Tank (sadly) doesn't make much of a difference in close engagements. One lonely T1 Arbitrator / BB can RSD / ECM this ship into the stone age.
RE: Range Most engagements are rarely 200km standoffs. Lack of DPS on this ship means suck-nut ability to kill. Like all ranged Cal ships, you can't kill what you can't make stay.
RE: Gangs Almost everyone and their brother wants to kill this ship (new toy) (we took down a Rokh in a little over :30 seconds with a team 5 (no bs's) - and still had time to pop his friends in Slep, Munin and Dictor.) Ouch.
Covops makes sniping without significant support a dangerous occupation - which means that Gang use is severly limited. If I have to put 5 other gang members on a Rokh to keep it alive - it's not worth the manpower, as it's DPS doesn;t warrant the re-distribution of the other firepower I am committing to its safety.
Overall:
Solid tank Lots of fitting options / huge PG and CPU. Missles fitting onm this ship an option - but doesn't really work well due to recent T2 missle nerfs. This is on e of those ships that can do a lot of things - and a lot of roles - and does them all poorly - which makes it rather useless IMO.
Jack of all trades, Master of none.
Caldari 4TL. (Once again, Thanks Devs.) -are there any other Cal ships / mods / weapons that require *balance* before this race is essentially relegated into a EW role with little else? Here I was hoping for a lethal railboat - and we got another shield tanker throw-away ship that doesn't do anything well.
Don't waste your isk. Next.

I must be missing something....
Rokh Electron 394dps Rokh Ion 422dps Rokh Neutron 450dps
Mega Electron 430dps Mega Ion 461dps Mega Neutron 492dps
Thats about 10% more damage for the Mega from its turrets.
Yet one is shield tank so can fit damage mods without a problem and other is a armour tanker so has to compramise tank for damage mods....
How is the Rokh so bad at dealing damage? -------------------------

The traking Dis. screw up any turret ship. He lasted 3+ mins VS a factions BS, Nos DOMI, and a T2 EW cruiser with nos???
Then you tell us the ship sucks.
Maybe you should be a miner in that Fraction BS of yours.
We all know the new Teir 3 battleships can't do more damage then the teir2 battleships. The Dev said it, its been proven, and you can see it in the ships bounces.
The one thing they can do well is tank. They all have a bounce for tanking. IMO the teir 3 BS might not do a ton of damage but I got money that says that a 10 man fleet of teir 3 battleships vs 10 teir2 BS that the teir 3's would win.

I believe the op, as he stated in posts after the first one, is of the opinion that the Rokh would be an awesome NOS ship.
If you think about it, the Rokh does have a good tank and could quite possibly be an awesome support ship in a close-range gang (if you land within range of the opponent). Haven't flown a Rokh yet since I haven't worked up any of my Hybrid turret skills but I can imagine a pretty mean NOS+Tank Rokh as a support ship for a close-range gang.
Then again if you can use the T2 rails why not just be long-range support for a close range gang...

OK, so after being totally tweaked about this ships *supposed* limitless capabilities, I finally got into it and started muddling around with the setup, yet again.
Rail boat - limited viability.
Blaster boat- could have potential. The principle is the same as the one behind the Beagle. If you know the optimal setup for the Beagle, you have an idea of how to set this one up - bonuses are essentially the same, so shouldn't be a huge issue. I tested it on NPC's and was a LOT happier. PvP will tell the tale.
More later.

Look, I'm agreeing with a Goonswarm member!
He's completely right, though. Caldari can not play solo, with two exceptions. 1.) Beagle. Requires you to train up a non-native weapon to an insane level, though. 2.) Cerberus. But, it's insanely expensive.
No Caldari T1 setup can 1v1 with any confidence. Caracals have paper where their tank should be. Moas again require non-native weapons. Blackbird has been nerfed so bad that it's worthless, and it never had a tank or offensive capabilities anyway. Ferox is sllllooooowww, and a rail platform. Drake is still expensive, it's a decent ship, but it too is slow. But every Caldari ship suffers from the same problem - shield tanking vs. the standard midslot accomidations - we have to decide between speed mods, cap injectors, scrams, webs, etc and any tank at all.
Which makes the only ships worth a damn in a 1v1 situation the T2 ships. And now that Jamming has been completely slaughtered as a weapon, the Falcon and Rook are pretty much worthless. EW is dead, and yet we don't have any ships set up to do any remote sensor damping, or long range scrambling, or webbing, or nosing.
The only time that caldari ships are really good is in a gang of 5 or more, or in a fleet. And even then, in a fleet, everyone else looks down on you because while your missiles or torps hit at 200+ or 100+ KM, you are worthless in sniper fights, because they take 5 minutes to get from you to the target and everyone will just warp out. Well, excuse me for my native weapon sucking. It's not my fault that I don't have 5M sp in gunnery.
Yes, the Raven is the omgwtfbbq awesome PvE ship. Congratulations, you can kill rats.
Otherwise, it's hard being caldari.

Quoting from the Phoenix Description: In terms of Caldari design philosophy, the Phoenix is a chip off the old block. With a heavily tweaked missile interface, targeting arrays of surpassing quality and the most advanced shield systems to be found anywhere, it is considered the strongest long-range installation attacker out there.
The "Caldari Design Philosophy" is very simply: Missiles + EWar/Jamming + Shield tanking.
Shield tanking means trading med slot items used in locking an opponent down - webs, scrams, and speed mods. And caldari ships are insanely slow, we can never outrun anyone. Which means the only ships we can tank, and still have these mods, are ships with natively high resistances - T2 ships like the cerberus, nighthawk, and eagle.
Missiles means we have guaranteed hits* and can change damage types, but it also means that we cannot fight at 60+ KM. (*guaranteed as long as fighting NPCs or enemies who are too dumb to warp out).
EWar and Jamming have been nerfed. The rook and falcon are now very expensive, almost useless ships. They aren't useless, they're just of marginally more use than a blackbird for 20 times the isk.

Ok, all you people complaining about how much the Rokh sucks are stupid. With 3 damage mods and a tracking enhancer, Both 8 Blasters and 8 rails do pretty good DPS for me and my gunnery skills suck. It's been great with Blasters, I've dueled against a Megathron and Hyperion where he has far more SP in gunnery than I do and I ate through his tank before he could touch me every time, no matter how he tried to change his setup. 8 named Neutrons, T2 XL shield boost, T2 Invuln/EM/Therm hardeners, T2 heavy cap booster, T2 boost amp, RCU, T2 tracking enhancer, 3 T2 magstabs, and a Kin shield rig. That gives pretty good damage, insane resists, and a large amount of cap. Have someone else tackle, who needs an MWD with warp to 0 and the range those blasters have. - Someone save me from this Sanity. |

Yes in fleet fights go for range but it cant kill anything!!!! Fit this ship with 8 Nos, and a tank from hell and cap injectors. Then hope your gang can kill the targets because this ship cannot,
Oh, so they're seeing the guns aren't all they're hyped up to be. They're seeing that gun DPS at 100km SUCKS compared to missiles.
THE ROKH: The thing that FINALLY convinces people that guns need a buff. Because if the Caldari say it needs a buff, it has GOT to be true!
It's great playing Caldari-online, isn't it?

Comparing theoretical max dps is kinda pointless. Yes, the mega does a wee bit more, but it doesn't really matter. The situation for it to actually happen is so rare. What matters however is the dps you can push under the conditions you normally engage in. This depends heavily on your FC. Normally this will be, how much dps can you push to a target 200-220km away moving at 150m/s. with a sig rad of about 400... This is where the Rokh shines and has no peers. It can reach there no swet without targeting computers. Or with just a T1 fit, with TCs. This gives the best effectiveness/(Cost-InsuransePayout) ratio in game, making it The number 1 tool in alliance level conflicts. Yes, it is also a good bait ship, but there are cheaper more viable alternatives. It really shines in what it does best. As the king of fleet BS.
As for caldari not being a rail race. Missiles were not always a primary weapon system. As a conseptual weapon they were flushed down the toilet as soon as they were made a primary weapon. They used to be something special, something to be feared and a kind of a more rare weapon you really had to look out for and try to counter. Now, it's just an alternative way of pushing out dps, and it's kinda sad... ___ P.S. Post with your main. Mind control and tin hats |

Well, for starters, crows are very good solo (1v1 inties and not only inties, it can potentially wtfpwn many other frigs solo depending on setups e.g. it would ruin my uber-dmg enyo's day). I also think, haven't tried it yet though, that drake may be good for solo ganking. Even raven can be good solo and of course Cerberus.
On the other hand, not many situations rly involve 1v1 these days. At least in 0.0 it's usually our blob v your blob (or at least our 4-5 men gang v you 4-5 man gang). I won't get into whether this is good or bad, but it's true.
Soooo, for gang I think rokh is a nice ship really. Of course it's very good in many fleet situation. e.g. 1: it can stay outside enemy range and be invulnerable with some good positioning. e.g. 2: it can use T1 ammo=cheap fittings and/or noobs actually taking part in large fleet battles. e.g. 3: It can use blasters in small gangs and still have more or less insta damage (whereas mega's need to fit rails to actually get in mails most of the times).
Of course saying Caldari's shouldn't use hybrids is just plain stupid and I won't get into that.
All in all I think rokh is a decent ship with its weaknesses of course, but at least at par with rest of tier 3 BS's if not the best of them.

rokh is dangerous in a rokh group setup for crossfire in a firing range sphere. Rokh 200km to the left> *target* <Rokh 200km to the right. If you think this way, it's one hell of a distance to cross

A few points.
1) the op seems to be an idiot. 2) nothing wrong with his idea tho, the rokh makes a very nice nosship as bait. 3) the rokh makes a better fleet sniper than nosship. 4) the rokh makes a better close range blasterboat than sniper. 5) passive tanking ftw (no cap = no need for nos = high slots can actually be useful)

Is it just me or are 90% of the Caldari pilots out there just dumb as rocks? HELLO? Get creative with your setups. Even more, TRAIN SOMETHING OTHER THAN MISSILES YOU IDIOTS.
Suck it up and branch out from something other than your lame ass missile skills. I'm skilled up in drones, hybrids, AND missiles (t2 heavies on the Lachesis or Drake FTW). Torps and Nos are fine on the Rokh, but using Neutron IIs and null and hitting at 30km+ is just awesome. No other ship in the game has that kind of DPS at that range. Period.
Think about it. 8x Neutron IIs, 3 damage mods, and 30km range. That's nuts. Further more, the Rokh is so increadably flexible it's just crazy. With a ton of mids, I can lightly armor tank it (Large rep, DC2, EANM2), still have room for 3x damage mods, and use the mids for a TON of tackling (3 T2 24km warp scrams *and* a web). Works GREAT for those scumbag carebear stab wh#res.
Heavy tackler anyone? Heck, you can even drop the web and fit another point on there, or go really nuts and drop your MWD and fit 5. And this is assuming you don't fit 2 point scrams- then you'd have 10 points on. Enough to hold down even a 100% stabbed out Geddon.
The Rokh is brilliant. It just requires more than a few missile skills to use, and *gasp* may require some other exotic skills like armor tanking and drones to be used effectively. OMG, imagine that!?

It does more damage than a raven (realistic damage against a random BS or BC) and tanks better. What else you want?

Not many ships can compete against 3 ships one of which is a faction ship, one EW cruiser of optimal type and a Nos domi... How long would your mega would have lasted against that damage? Domi+mega+arbi should do about 2.5k-3k dps so it was a miracle he lasted as long as he did.

Finally someone got it right. 100/100 points.
Quote: Jack of all trades, Master of none. Caldari 4TL. (Once again, Thanks Devs.)
1/100 points. 1 point for the Caldari dissing. The Rokh is actually 'master' of range, mid to long range damage (due to ammo) and tank. Please tell me why 'Caldari' is a bad choice, especially considering all the masses of Caldari players? Easiest to fly and probably best fleet sniper, best mission cruiser, battlecruiser and battleship plus awesome passive tanks on Rokh and Drake = 4tl? I don't think so, Tim.

I`ve got few Rokhs, and sadly lost them, so I have mixed impression about this ship. It`s really useful range bonus, and pretty good armor resistance bonus, but it`s one thing annoying me in almost all Caldari ships, it`s not enough med slots mostly because of shield tanking, so you must chose for example between sacrificing shield resistance or shield extension and really needed devices like MVD, Cap Boosters Target painters etc. Also I want admit really low amount of capacitor energy, it’s great problem when MVD is fitted and all 8 weapons are active.
I can see Rokh only in role of a gang or fleet sniper.
Once I have fit it with 8 Blasters, MVD, Cap booster. And what do you thing I have got ?! Right ! I’ve got slowly ship with 120 000 000 kg mass, that’s why when you try to approach target in 40 km distance you will loose all you capacitor because Rokh will not achieve its maximum sped and will move quite slowly, you will need permanent cap recharge, cos 70% will be spend by MVD and other 30% will disappear in one moment when you will activate blasters, I even don’t say anything about active resistance plates if you gather how to pot them without outputting devices needed to support.
So what we totally have if we decided to use close combat Rokh, Slowly ship, Small amount of capacitor, horrible maneuvering and speed even with MVD, and the worth’s is that you will not have med slots to fit shield resistance and extension.
In this case, Gallente ships without a doubt have total superiority, they might have really great tank and resistance using low slots and in the same time have enough med slots for all kinds of devices.
PS But it`s one more reason except for range bonus I`m using this ship, as for me it`s the most likable BS in EvE.

Why the hell would you want to approach a target? You outrange him , let him do the approach, while hitting him from 30km... with blasters.
And if he's hitting you at 40km , he's prolly a sniper anyway, so you easily outdamage/outtank him at say 25km.
Hell, the best thing about the Rokh is the range and you're approaching targets?!

Edited by: Marco Ragnos on 21/03/2007 17:17:21 Yesterday I have bought Mega, fly a bit with blasters I understood that Rokh have 2 disadvantages: first its capacitor low capacity, second is its mass about 120 000 000 kg against 100 000 000 kg of Tier 2 BS. Still I feels much comfortable flying on Mega in close combat equipment, it’s enough med slots for devices, and low for tanking or upgrades and I could don’t worry about capacitor. But as sniper there is no equal to Rokh.

this is more of a suicide rokh setup... but it works very well for tanking the masses while waiting for the rest of the fleet to come in or such, should tank 15 fighter drones with ease... with the rigs it should take 3.25 seconds for each X-Large booster to boost and with all nos's running and the cap booster on, the cap will maintain at 100%, while the cap booster will hold 1 of the shield boosters nos will hold the other and more... great for breaking tanks and such

It might be a bit expensive as a mining toy, but nothing is more fearsome then watching a fleet of Rokhs massacre an asteroid belt. My only concern with Rokh is that hybrids and shield tanking don't mix for one reason: absurd cap consumption. I have both cap skills at five, yet even the peak recharge is not enough to sustain just the guns. An injector is mandatory, obviously, but one is insufficient since the booster hogs roughly twice as much as it provides.
At the moment I'm experimenting with two injectors, which requires two neutrons to be downgraded to ions. I've also had to drop the scrambler for this reason, and to admit that only few caldari ships are viable for soloing.
The setup is:
6 Neutron Blaster Cannon II 2 Ion Blaster Cannon II
1 XL Shield Booster II 1 Shield Boost Amp 2 Invul II 2 Heavy Electrochemica Injector
2 Mag Stab II 2 PDS II 1 DCU II
1 EM rig 1 TM rig 1 Cap rig
It does make for a feisty tank. But without propulsion, webbing or scrambling it's quite desperate for complimentary tackling. The boost amp could be traded for a scrambler, I guess, but I'm reluctant to. ---

Problem is, Caldari is supposed to have range and shield tank. But for range at least, it's usually pretty useless, unless you are in a fleet with a lot of fast tacklers. Maybe if CCP gave it a small RoF bonus? Say 5% per level. That'd even the DPS sort of, but it would cost more, because of all the shots.
But still, people who use a Blaster Rokh in my opinion are a bit silly, and should try to use it's bonuses to their advantage. _____________________________ Thorek Ironbrow of Ironbrow Industries Co. Part of the Empire Research Alliance Look us up in Nomaa or Itamo to join! |

I think the replies since the necro prove that while the thread is a year old, stupid is forever timeless.

Can't believe no one said this yet, but why not make this Rokh into a rock and shield transport support in gang? It sounds about right to me. A smart person would probably not go for the Rokh first as it gets a very good tank. If thats the case, why not be supportive and force people on you?
I dunno, random typing at night.

This is the point: A rokh can deal 1000dps with verry good droneskills and pretty maxed Neutron Blaster Cannon II's (with 3x MFS II) WHILE having a goldy tank (bs lvl5, 1x DCU II, 2x Invul Field II's, 1x XL SB II and 2x SBA II's and 3x Shieldbooster cap usage rigs(and it has a Heavy Cap Injector II).
A gankmega with a set of Ogre II's and Neutron Blaster Cannon II's will only hold out as long as your plates/trimarks can handle, while doing something close to 1200dps.
Both ships have there uses. In a gatecamp with multiple tacklers on your side, the Rokh is AWESOME because of its range bonus (something like 15km+15km with null or so?) and thus it doesnt need a mwd AND can do instant damage on locking. It cant tackle and is too slow to do anything close to solo with it. In other words, the Rokh is better designed to tank alot and it is a good damage dealer at gates (or as a sniper ofc).
The Mega on the other side, deals more dps at much closer ranges (something that doesnt matter *too much* for the Rokh) AND it can tackle, but the tanking ability is nothing, it only has a buffer tank. Also the tracking bonus on the guns is sweet for hitting faster stuff at closeranges. So you can say that the mega excels more with the possibility to solo, more than being a good gatecamper (you have to mwd to your target first, tackle and shoot, so your damage will be incoming 'later' on your target than a Rokh can do at the same 15km away spot).
Both good ships, both good uses. Besides that, did i mention the discorokh i sweeeeet? Nice hamster! - Mindstar Thanks! We wont touch this sig! - Cortes I lied - Cortes LIAR! |

Originally by: DHB WildCat Yes they get range bonus but do sh*t dps.

And you really think a Megathron would have lasted longer?
