Imma post right now just to say thank you to CCP. I downloaded Elite Dangerous recently, thinking it would be a good alternative game to play for when I'm bored of EVE. A lot of Null Sec people (including me) been really salty since Fozzie Sov and that certainly played a role. However - I downloaded elite thinking it would be awesome - it was advertised to eventually include things like planetary landing, atmospehric flight, etc. - which is awesome.
All those cool things (the reason I bought the game) were recently announced as DLC for the low price of -ú39.99, or a pass for all future expansions for ******* -ú130.00.
So I wanted to say thanks CCP for not being knobheads like the rest of the industry, and not forcing DLC down our throats. We may be salty, but we appreciate you guys for not following the status quo :) |

PffGǪ E:D is going about it all wrong. The way forward these days is obviously to sell people jpegs for $5,000.

yeah, so have I. However here I never feel like I've paid for something and not had it delivered with CCP. You know what you're getting. Selling something advertised for like -ú50 and then saying "oh, it's actually another -ú40 to get the thing we told you that you'd already paid for" is shady as ****. |

I used to steadfastly denounce the idea of spending a monthly subscription for a video game. Seemed like the absolute worst idea ever. By and large, I still do say that the market is full of games that absolutely are not worth my gaming dollar.
Happily pay my Eve sub though. There's always an exception to the rule :P

I came really close to buying E:D myself this past weekend. Glad I didn't after reading all the negative reviews about it.
Regarding EA Games, I still believe they are worse than anyone else. Look at all the stupid Sims 3 add-ons. None of their Sims products are compatible with one another. If the gaming industry has another meltdown like we had in the 80's, EA will be at the forefront.

Really? I actually quite liked E:D. So far I've spent $60 on it, which is an embarrassing fraction of the total I've spent on EVE. I've had fun in EVE, but regret most of the money I've spent on it. I've had a tremendous amount essentially wasted by changes made by CCP (I used to pay subs on 16 accounts, ISBoxer). I suppose I have no one but myself to blame for that, but it should at least explain why I feel like E:D delivers far for fun-per-dollar (or whatever your currency is) than EVE.

Nearly bought into ED in the early days. So glad I didn't.
As far as what I've spent on Eve is concerned, it's be well worth it and I don't regret it.

Your are not the only one if there was no offline SP i think* 99% of the people stop "playing" eve tbh.

That's your fault to not inform yourself. E:D never made a secret that planetary landing and avatar gameplay would be PAID EXPANSIONS, and that's why they offered a unlimited pass with their beta packages. v-¦v
Although I am not a fan of the idea and I'd rather pay a monthly subscription, I certainly knew where I was putting my money.
PS: The fact that I can't get rid so easily of Mrs. Fazmarai & al. and replace them with lifeless anonymous ships is an accidental issue... 
73% of EVE characters stay in high security space. 62% of EVE subscribers barely PvP. 40% of all new accounts just "level up their Ravens". Probably that's why PvE content in EVE Online is sub-par and CCP is head over heels for PvP...

Eve Online sub = 15 money/month
3 accounts, 45 money/month
6 years = 72 months
72 months x 45 money = 3240 money

Idk if ED has some kind of monthly subscription thing going on, like WoW or something but yeah. If you do pay for Eve and stick with it for a long time, it isn't exactly cheap but then again, neither is going out for drinks every weekend for 6 years =x

This practice is pretty common outside of the kickstarter scene as well. I wonder how far it'll eventually be taken ^^

To be honest, that certain platform was just offering that - a platform for mod makers to sell their work.
I still don't quite get what was wrong about that.
Also, referring to the post above, E:D devs never stated that features they are adding as DLCs now would be anything else than paid expansions.
The problem with the game is that it will take a ton of DLCs (and money) to have something to do in it, apparently.

Premium Beta crowd checking in, all DLC are free of charge and that includes beta access.
Also, as a non-sub game that isn't whoring itself out like Star Citizen I'd say that E:D is doing just fine without being dicks about it. |

Remember, they have no sub cost. You pay for expansions in place of paying for a sub. All companies have to make money to continue operating.

They promised entertainment and delivered structure mining whack-a-mole. Thankfully EVE is F2P for long time vets. Once VR comes out properly and I hook that up with E:D, I'll probably drop down to being a filthy casual in EVE.

Paying for something that does not exist is the pinncale of risk.
The kickstarter community, in particular, confuses the hell out of me.
Ive learned though that apparently many people have far more expendable income than I do, and that many people will pay for dreams.
I prefer subscription models with free dlc (as in EVE), to paid DLC models.
Reason being that in the former you fund development, participate in risk together with the provider, and can stop doing that when your interests nonlonger coincide.
Whereas in the latter, DLC is almost always incentivised by advantages which even if you disagree with, you will have to pay inorder to remain competitive and enjoy all aspects of the product equally.
Im holding out on ED on principle till more multiplayer integration, even though I am very attracted to what I have seen so far of how comprehensive and immersive the entire starship experience is.
Same goes for SC. Ill gladly pay sub, but only for a product that is reasonable ready. I wont throw money down that well just in hope of some future iteration, especially if inorder to access it, Ill have to pay DLC as well as sub.

You do tend to pay more for subs though. The problem I've always had with subs is that it's easy to forget how much you pay for them. There are many people who have paid several thousand dollars to play EVE and even if development isn't being done on things you like, you're still continuing to pay.
