Quara Terranas	Posted - 2006.12.10 03:41:00 - [1] I don't know the first thing about World of Warcraft and was wondering if anyone had any noob suggestions? :\ I've read over the "getting started" section of their site while waiting for the HUGE (3.5G) installer to download and everything seems to be easy-cheesy clicky and kill grind-fest lineage 2 like in nature. Just wondering what race/class to go with as a total noob? What should I look out for? I own 4 eve accounts and have played eve for 3 years. No, I'm not leaving eve and you cannot have my stuff. I just need a break is all and have set my chars on looong skill training while I'm "away". And yes, this IS an alt to prevent massive LOL eve-mails from ppl I know. If this whole WoW thing doesn't work out, are their any other mmo's out there worth playing? I've tried EQ2 and Lineage 2 already. They were both good games but lacking that little "something" to make me stay for more than a month. Any ideas? Thanks a ton.

Look been to WoW land it sucks. if you must go fantasy I recommend Lineage II the PVP is 10X better. eve is 100X better then WoW PVP but at least in lineage dieing has penalties and you can fight just about anywhere outside of town.

Qece Gallente Dead End Zeroes	Posted - 2006.12.10 09:03:00 - [17] As someone who still has 2 active WoW accounts I can say that although I'm thoroughly sick of it there are some things that WoW does very well. It allows you to level fairly fast and the more you put in the more you get out. If you're a hardcore game-head then you'll succeed in WoW. The key to enjoying the game is to play with RL friends or at least online friends who you can trust to not be douches. The entire fun experience for myself is generally ruined by the sheer retardedness that is General Chat (AKA Local) and the child-like community overall. In EVE if someone were to ask you to create something for them that cost you nothing other than 20 seconds of your time I'd like to think that most of the community would do it. In WoW it's seen as a hinderance and most players will refuse to do that simple task. For my money the only real challenge in WoW is to get into a guild which you like. After that the game itself is ok. The PvP system is a bit stupid and extremely imbalanced in some cases but it's instant. However, you can log in to WoW and be PvP'ing within seconds, literally. After a couple of weeks at lvl 60 the PvE becomes redundant unless you're in a raiding guild, this actively made me stop playing as there's just no need for a healing class to PvP and as I only needed gear from raids I only logged in on raid nights. If you're going to play WoW and give it your full attention I'd suggest getting to lvl 70 ASAP (doubtful you'll reach lvl 60 before the expansion hits on Jan 16th), get into a guild who have an age cap and a proper setup (forums, voice comms, leadership, goals etc) and then get into the raid instances. Be prepared to sacrifice many hours of your time to learning the PvE instances/events and then be prepared to sacrifice even more time waiting on fellow guildmates, preparing for fights after being wiped by retarded guildmates, watching your guild fail on events due to poor players and generally being hosed over by your "friends". I'd say that WoW can be an extremely fun game if you can get into the right guild with the right balance of fun and dedication for you. If you don't wish to waste time then do not, and I'll repeat that, DO NOT play World of Warcraft as invariably your time WILL be wasted by other players.

Wow is a fantastic game, I have 3 level 60 characters and played for around 1.5 years (epic rogue, epic druid and blue hunter). The PVP has a lot to offer that EVE doesnt i.e. not click F1-F8 and see who pops first. Rogue PVP in particular requires great timing, precision, knowledge and versatility. Every fight is different. The PVE grind as one of the posters stated can become very tiresome due to the huge amount of time required and perhaps is only for the real hardcore. However, some of the boss fights are superbly scripted, the lore is fantastic and if you get into a good friendly guild you will have lots of fun fighting monsters. I remember the first time I saw Ragnaros I was like "Holy **** look at the size of that thing". I advise to get a few friends to play with you, you will have fun levelling and exploring together. One thing I don't understand is how most people feel EVE and WOW to be mutually exclusive; I am a fan of computer games since 1986 and trust me WOW is just as fantastic a game as EVE, it's just different. It's less hardcore, not in terms of time but in terms of risk vs reward, but can provide hours of fun. It is more pick up and play than EVE, and thats why I love both, depending on my mood. What I would suggest is try each character to level 20 or so and see which appeals the most; failing that just go with your gut instinct (which character appeals to your playstyle?) My personal favourtite after playing every class to a reasonable level is the Rogue; you might struggle to get into a end game raiding guild as a rogue but the fun of sneaking up on people is priceless. This is the same reason I like druids.... Anyways good luck and have some fun in WOW. For the record, if you are playing on Euro servers, try dunemaul which is where most of my characters are (Alliance btw). Edit: I have played EVE since beta and will probably be here when they close the servers ;-)

At its core it has fun, carefree and casual PvP but in order to reach that you must go through countless raids, quests and 1-60 in order to get to the casual PvP bit. Long story short, if there was a WoW freeshard with item spawn commands, free level 60 and just the battlegrounds - I would play there. P.S. Try Dark Age of Camelot instead, you can level by killing other players (i.e. having fun) and the item grind is nowhere near as bad. Better community too.

Very few have a serious advantage over others. Go for what you think looks best ;) But if you feel like being overpowered, roll Undead Warlock. If you want a challenge and like variation, go druid. Tips? Try reading "jame's alliance/horde guide". It can cut your progress time in half. Despite what most people will tell you, WoW is enjoyable untill you reach a certain point - like all games no matter their content. If you enjoy something take your time with it and dont rush through too much. Oh and dont bother with Battlegrounds (if you reach 60 anytime soon) - they are worse than EVE's fleetbattles

Nothing. I'd never say that one was better than the other. What I will say is that WoW PvP can become a set of routines if you let it turn into a grind rather than a fun activity. I do log on WoW every couple of days, I run a few battlegrounds and log off. I'm not interested in the rewards or the OMGT0T4LPWN, I just a few fun rounds and I'm off. Like most activities in life, if you do too much then it doesn't seem as fun.
