How many corps out there are going to require having Vivox when it comes out?
How many are planning to stay with the old chat system TS/Vent?
Any info on how much extra it's going to cost?
And when is it coming out?
Sorry, just got back in the game today after a break.

Edited by: BustyBounty on 13/12/2006 00:22:54 didnt work on win2k so i couldnt use it even if i wanted to, the alliance im in has a dedicated TS server for all the member corps anyway so doubt i will even be asked to use vivox ------------------------------------------ My opinions are my own and not that of the alliance I belong to. |

I don't know anyone who is planning on using the new system.
Vivox for a 1000-man alliance = 10,000 dollars a year TS server = 50 bucks a year?

it aint aimed at large alliances though is it :)
CCP have said before its to fill the gap for smaller corps who dont have access to their own servers.

Solution: mooch off of a 1000 man alliance.

If the fancy features work as intended it will probably eventually become the standard in alliances.
The key words there are 'if' and 'eventually'. And 'probably'. ----------

What i want to know, is if this vivox thing means a whole new way of smacking in local.
I've been dying to hear some nasal voice reaching across to me from the depths of space, "nyaah nyaah you can't catch my shuttle. I had a battleship BPO in my cargo too."

That will depend entirely on how crappy/buggy/laggy it is. Cost has already been announced, so performance compared to TS/Vent is the only other variable.

I'm going to use it.
Yeah most major corps and alliances have a TS/Vent server but both are an utter pain. Just causes problems like:
-Mucking about with IPs, Passwords and all that, having a proper Nickname with your corp Tag etcetc.
-Spies getting your Voicecomms info.
-Changing my mic volume depending on the Server/client/day of the week....
-Having to alt-tab out of eve to tell who is speaking.
I'm really looking forward to having it all integrated into the client.

I'll use anything but TeamSpeak. I hate that program, it's such a piece of junk. Been trying to talk my corp into Vent since I joined with no success.

Teamspeak sound quality is only low because peopl who have no idea how to run a server set crappy codecs

Well, tbh, I wouldnt mind the new Vivox thing, as long as it proves to be better and not counter-intuitive to EVE and corp/alliance chat.
Else, I think TS/Vent's still the safe way.

The reason I'll always appreciate TS/Vent over any in-game voice program is for the ability to communicate with Corp/Guild/Outfit members outside of game. Always nice to know when a home continent was being raided on planetside so I could log on and join the fight. --------------------------------------- Implement Isk Stipends, Keep Noobs in the game (no its not asking for your donations) [url="http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=4419 |

$10/year (per person... aka... all of your accounts are covered with $10)
At least, that's what the Vivox guy said at Fanfest during his presentation :)

They already said it would be put in a seperate patch. Not with Kali 1 or 2.

If it works as good as the fantastic revamped gang and broadcast feature, I wont touch it with a long poker.
I am pretty sure they're going to make it work with Linux and Win2k once the XP (and soon Vista once the Vivox problems are solved) crowd happily pays their money in advance. --*=*=*--
The cause for this is not yet known, but we do have a possible fix in testing. by Sharkbait | 2006.09.20 |

Vent is for corp stuff, because it's just simpler and better.

You can save server details in both Vent/TS, so you only have to type this info once?

Alt spies can still get into your corp/alliance op in Vivox, if you let them.

If you have such problems now, I dont see how another voice-chat application is going to fix them. I use both TS+vent and don't have to play around with my input/output sound levels.

Sorry, I just wanted to point out that ts/vent really is not that bad and vivox is no magic bullet.
With the suggested price I don't think it's going to be a big hit. If CCP really wanted to make an impact with Vivox, it should be free to all subscribers. |

I think that depends on how much it will cost.
As long as the service price is not horribly high, I suppose it will be one of the standard tool for communication in EVE.
Personally, I would like to try, and continue using it if its sound quality is equal or better than TS with all those ingame features.

damn, i just read "will corps require _vitoc_...?"
anyway. situated in a smaller corp we will prolly go for vitoc... err vivox to use it in a more casual way. TS/Vent however will not be disbanded. there are many tools for TS alone that makes the life easier: - a tool that displays the nickname aof the speaker (for those with only one monitor who dont want to ALT+Tab) - eve-downtime, which has a integrated mp3-player and online-radio (list editable) AND lowers the volume of the music down when someone in the channel speaks. heard Vent can do this to, but never figured it out. :) - the quality _can_ be good. as said before, you just have to configure the TS server properly.
i think vivox is nice for casual play, RP, etc. and will used for this.

This will be replaced with losing voicecomms when you crash, which is worse TBH. ----------
