Cross-posting is bad I know.
I came across this in the newbie forums, can anybody oblige this guy?
Altony Compagno wrote:Ok, so I started off pretty gung-ho but I am starting to falter a bit and wondering what I am missing. Hoping you fine folks here will help me out as much as you did the first go round.
I am having a hard time finding fights. How should I go about doing that as a low-skilled character? My gut is telling me to either join a corp or join FW, but I am not certain that is right.
What I would love is a "Rookie Help" chat for those looking for the darker side of Eve Online. Coaching on suspect baiting, can flipping, ganking, espionage, awoxing, and all of these other cool things I read about and only have a marginal understanding of mechanically.
I don't enjoy missioning or mining really. I think I would really like high sec warfare, but how do I go about this early on?
I have half a mind to form my own corp, sell a plex for cash, and start warring on corps solo. I would surely lose a lot of ships, but it would be exciting! The only thing stopping me so far is the cash it would take (is it 50m to war?) with no guarantee that people would fight me. I suppose I could always just join other wars and hope for the best, but it seems like the big war corps are flying ships that would smoke my 75dps Rifter in a heartbeat.
I need a career agent for the darkside.

I also mailed him, so he has decent options if he wants to go with either the Mercenary route or the Ganking route. |

I saw that post too. Looking through his posting history, I found this one also
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=442273
Altony Compagno wrote:How does reinforcement work, exactly? I saw a Mobile Depot floating in a belt where the career guy sent me to mine, and it had Russian writing so I decided to try to kill it. I went back to the space station, put guns on instead of miners, and went out to try my luck. It took FOREVER. And then it didn't explode. I was close to killing the shields when it went invulnerable. A guy in local said that it was in reinforcement and I would have to wait until the timer ran out. Will anyone else be able to kill it between now and then? What happens when it comes out of reinforced? Will it be open for anyone to kill it then, or just me, and how long does it stay vulnerable? Thanks ahead of time. I am a handful of days into my trial and am having a good time, even though my first attempt at space piracy was a bust!
So he apparently skipped the career agents to try and blow people up sooner. I'm almost never in HS or I would help, but looks like he will fit in fine around here. |

There really needs to be a career agent for emergent play. But, would that make it non-emergent if there was?

LOL. You nailed Johan Force. This guy would sit in rookie systems and let them shoot at him. Then he would reship and blow them up. Too bad you didn't get the pod.

It wasn't from lack of trying. I almost had a lock when he warped off.
What is funny is that he did come back in a Legion to try to kill me but I was long gone bouncing between safe spots.

He got me back. -1 to me, ma'am.
I saw him undock in a Moa and head to an anomaly site so I went after him, took from a wreck to give him cause, and then tried to orbit tight and see what would happen.
Two things happened.
* I was doing ok but noticed his shield rep was holding up too well against my pathetic 75dps. *My cap ran dry while running my web/scram and afterburner. I have neglected those skills trying to increase dps but I will be going back to those.
Ok, well three things happened.
*He blew me to smithereens once my capacitor died and armor repairer quit working.
Any comments or suggestions? A rifter vs a dual-rep Moa (he said), is there a chance in the hands of a newb?
P.S. - no laughing at the festival launcher/snowball in the high slot. I read a funny story on minerbumping, alright? Didnt really work out for me. |

+1 for the snowball launcher.
I'd drop it and add a nos though.
This was my general setup when I first started
https://zkillboard.com/kill/40773127/
And by far cap skills/engineering skills are incredibly important. It's not a waste of time by any means to get those up quickly. Those are the general support skills that will translate to a benefit to any ship you fly. |

By far the best advice I can give is to roam around with a few more people. Going at it solo is an uphill battle when you are just starting out. If we have a WH open near your system I can give you a shout in game and we can kill people. I'm not the best PvP-er myself by any means, but I've finally ground enough ISK/SPs with this account that I want to turn him more PvP.
The nos will help when fighting a frigate or destroyer but might not really help against a cruiser or higher since their capacitor is a lot bigger and can handle a small nos. I would go with a rocket launcher in the 4th slot if you are up close or a light missile launcher if you are a kiter. 75 dps isnt much and most cruiser tanks can easily handle that. It would depend on his fit if he was ASB fit, or had to inject cap to keep everything going.
If the drones took him out, you need to learn how to switch and lock drones and shoot them. If he has no drones to take the Rifter out, then it is a matter of who runs out of support first. Your Rifter ammo or his tank.

No, you won. He enjoys baiting newbros, getting them to think they have the advantage and then come back in something blappy and humiliates the newbro. I think he gets off on it honestly. Dude creeped me out so I took him off of my contact list.

My feelings of inadequacy were assuaged by a couple kills later today. I grabbed a pod that was in criminal status, and dueled a condor that was watching me on the pod and took it too.
At the suggestion of a CODE rep I also tried a bit of ice theft today for quick and easy cash. If I had set myself up better I think I could have taken a Hulk in the ice anomaly. As it was, I was stealing in a Venture and had 10 minutes of suspect left when he aggressed me for peeking in a container, giving me the engagement timer. I didn't have a ship there and staged to go back and get him with it. IF I had a decent ship, and IF I would have timed it better for the engagement timer to overlap my suspect timer by a bit, I could have flown back in and fought him without worrying about the 35 other drones in the belt, right?

I was mainly thinking its better to specialize in gunnery and skip missile skills for now. IMO that's a quicker way to be effective aas a new player.
Long term cross train missiles, but I generally tell people to pick one weapons system and get good with it before going to the next |
