Okay so here's the situation
You join an alliance
You join the corp thats in the alliance
You buy a POS + 2 Months fuel and go to anchor it - ****, you can't - Why?
Because you have to have starbase config, so for ceos who refuse to give roles, running a 0.0 or low sec pos for yourself is out the question
CCP my question is this - Why can u not launch a POS for personal use, like when u anchor cans, u can anchor for corp or for yourself.
So why can i do the same with a POS? CCP Please At Least Answer and if you agree, change the laws on it, make it so you can anchor it yourself
If your gonan flame don't bother, dont even bother replying

I totally agree. However the rules about such things were created some time ago when it was mostly a specialist operation. These days everyone and their dog can do it without too much trouble (especially considering how easy it is to haul with transports and mine ice).

Edited by: Plutoinum on 18/12/2006 15:38:36 Maybe two corp roles:
role 1) masteraccess, e.g. for directors. They can access any pos. role 2) allows people to set-up a pos and grand access to others via passwords or an access list.
Just an idea. That might also help with important poses like sovereignty poses. Giving the starbase config role to someone allows him to cause serious damage. That's why a CEO doesn't give it to everyone. Those two roles might solve it.

I agree. A POS is no longer something that requires an entire corp to run. The market stepped in handily because of demand. So now fuel delivery is available almost anywhere, reducing the requirements to run a POS to something a single person can easily handle. I'm assuming one of the problems with that is sovereignty though. If it isn't a "corp" POS, does it count towards the corp sovereignty or doesn't it? I don't know the code though, and probably couldn't decipher more than 1/10 of it anyways, so there may be a more far-reaching reason for the POS to not be anchorable by an individual.

The answer in this matter is rather complicated. For the corp you buy 2 posses and brind them down to find out you cant use them.
In the first place I would never even think of buying the posses untill the corp donates the required isk to purchase them, are hands them over to you for transport.
Ofcourse you obviously didn't know of this untill you actualy tried to anchor those. Thats why I think that when you try to do such a thing you actualy should try it on the test server first. You there will also need the corp roles, and thus you should ask him for these roles.
It normally can't cause any harm cause posses from tranquility are removed on the test server. But if he still refuses are don't agree with what u plan to do on the main server you atleast know where you are.
As in any of these kind of cases always ask the corp's ceo before doing any risky investment.

Why? Back your opinion with arguments.
There can only be one POS at any given moon. That makes a moon a territorial asset. As there is no way to declare war to a person for territorial conflicts (about sayed assets) deploying for personal use can not be allowed.
A second not so abvious reason is that corp leaderships dont got much power beside the ability to kick members. Being able to allow you to deploy a POS for your own profit or to share employees in the profit of running POSes is one of the few powers a Corp got.
Anyway why dont you ask one of the directors to anchor the POS for you? -- $ perl -n -e 'print "Stop blameing pirates! Oveur is the root of all evil!\n" if m/podkill|lost my ship|gank|gate camp|Verone/;'

1) There's the soveranigty issue
2) The POS was meant to be a corp effort. Those of you asking to do it on your own, you really don't know what involved. Is not about "OMG I have many ISKies so I can". Is not the iskies. Hauling the fuel is a pain. Procuring the fuel is a pain.
For example, the darn "Enriched Uranium", 4 per our right, 2880 per month right, only 1m3 so It should be one trip right? wrong! Cuz when you check the market, there's only like 1000 units in the whole region, scattered accross different systems in groups of 16. It ends up being 100+ trips and in the end you loose one whole day. And that's only one fuel item, you still have like 10 more items to go.
Also if you are alone, don't expect to have a vacation of more than 6 days without internet access.
Finaly, before anchoring a POS, ppl should dedicate a few minutes to look at documentaries like this one:

I originally found that the corp I was in trusted me to handle the POSes for me to setup my own (now i handle all their poses... so I got promoted ^_^)
Another option is to create your own corp and join that into the alliance?

I didn't meant is hard to get, I say it's a pain to haul due to it's time consuming nature. 50M for the small one true, but one full day procuring/hauling the things means 400M extra ISKies of "loss revenue" for me.
By reffering to the small one, I asume you don't run many POSes. In my post I reffered to 4 enriched uranium per day and that's a big one. And it IS a pain to get it fueled. |

Yup, that's common on most corps. I have been aproached by my directors with the idea of hiring a noob who could drive an indy but still can't mission/rat/mine properly. Throw in one million per week and he will haul happy. I decided against it since I don't like to rip ppl off.
Anyways, hauling the fuel being a pain is in great part a matter of opinion. If it's not a pain for you, go ahead. For me is an isk per hour issue and it's a pain. I'm not commenting more on the issue cuz I don't want to derail the OP's thread, just wanna say why I don't sign. If you want a POS for self, make yourself a one man corp. |

Clearly you've never purchased POS fuel. The NPCs at a station restock it the minute you buy some. So if it's a station that specializes in EU (100+ units for sale), you only need to keep buying more EU from them until you have enough, they'll restock it the moment you buy some. It's the same for all NPC-supplied fuel. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic |

Its a territorial issue
1) one POS per moon 2) sovernity in 0.0 is determined on the basis of POSes 3) only a corp/alliance can be war decced (and territory fought over)
An "easy" workaround is to form your own corp for POS deployment, and if you want to still operate with you present corp/alliance you can have your corp join the alliance. That way you can grant your alliance members some access to your POS if you want. This can also be done with one of your two alts or a second account.

Actually having just started purchasing the said 16 units from NPCs, I think you'll find that a) the price changes for the next listing, and b) it only relists once. So you only get 32 units from each NPC. There are also 175 unit NPCs too, giving 350 units from them.

Region wide buy orders..
10,000 units @ 3 months.
First purchase(s) for initial start up, a pain yes, but not undoable. First month, aproxx 1000 units scattered around. Enter the courier mission game. Gather units in several hubs. Go to hubs and collect. It gets even easier from there....

Edited by: UK Glum on 19/12/2006 14:45:13 Thats what I've done. The initial 3000 units I've wandered around and picked up from the NPCs and set a couple of buy orders up with a 3 jump radius so not too much running around. Almost got next months quota and they've only been up a few days
same goes for heavy water, isotopes etc etc
anyway thats not the point of the OP.
I'm setting up a seperate corp just for my POS project and I'm getting a set of alts to run it for me.

So make your own corp and have it join the alliance then you can do whatever you wish. It's not a hard concept. The reasons why you cannot do it have already been listed several times. It's an issue with soverignty, component access and so on. Every control in game for POS's is a corp based concept, so make a corp. The dev's have more to worry about then individuals wanting to own a POS but arent willing to take the steps with the game mechanics that have been in game for eons. You dont own your 0.0 space, your alliance does, and your alliance is a collective of corps. An individual cannot own the area. There is a pattern there.
