Bagrat Skalski wrote:Seriously EVE free to play would be broken any way you will make it.
What could possibly be broken about me waking up an alt, or 2, to run with the main for free. Main is pretty much done, I train to train at this point. have a mostly setup alt already on ice. Just pay for the 3rd account also on ice who is half done.
Link alt (ogb of course, do it the lazy way as its a multibox client I don't even have to manage), falcon alt, combat shooty main....3 for the price of 1. This one of good side effects of plex price rise. Some have trimmed down the alt farms really. The somewhat messed up combo above got too expensive to plex to run.
Now we can argue this is the death of eve. I say no....less alts to run the cheesy combo above probably a good thing. Sort of like how we laughed at the isboxers when they said well yeah....now I will just decommission most of my alts. Oh no....don't do that. We liked a several person bomber wing run by just 1 person. Whatever shall we do without that? Enjoy eve more seems to be the result really. |

If for no other reason, this will fail because you can't lock people out of the game if they want in bad enough. They'll lie on their billing information, use proxies, and all kinds of other fun things. CCP and the ISDs have almost certainly got enough trouble with this kind of thing from people who pay to play the game.

if you are "unsubscribed" - you can use only one account per IP adress / MAC adress - training of skills is paused - in case of higher numbers of players trying to log in to servers, "unsubscribed" accounts get kicked - make unsubscribed players unable to enter systems with more then 200 people in them (trade hubs, fleet fights...)
if you are subscribed - business as per usual
This might help some of my family members to play more often.....but whoops....4 of us in the same house....guess i would be the only one that played at all then..........

As a 4 year old player with only this account, I take great offense... as a 4 year old you should have somewhere in the 90+ mil skill points if you skilled all the time so imagine if you didnt have to pay the game anymore and still are able to play it even more so, you could use the RL money to buy plexes and sell them on the market - which would be closer to the chinese version where the plex is 3-4 bil As a 4 year old character with 91m sp, I would quit if eve went F2P. I have played F2P games in the past, they suck. As an 8 year bittervet with a quarter billion sp spread across four accounts (RL has interfered with my ability to play at times over the years), I would also quit if EvE went F2P.
EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
I couldn't have said it better.
Will troll for a t-shirt.

F2P...not the MMO, but if they created a scaled down single player version with 100% NPC content and maybe a multiplayer LAN version (start with something like 4 player slots, and could purchase additional slots) that could be run on a stand-alone server with 100% NPC content + some PVP content...
those would be the only things I would support. Would generate some r/l ISK for CCP and one would think that the existing code base could scale appropriately for that...i.e. would require a TON less resources to create the single/limited LAN version(s).
I'd buy it if the NPC content was immersive and fun. |

not even scaled down.....hell i would happily pay up to $60-$80 for an EvE stand alone 4x game that had every aspect of this mmo in it. Imagine a cross between Sins of Solar Empire and GalCiv3.....only it would be EvE....then add the ability to play with others hotseat or LAN.....i would bet that would put some money into CCP's pockets.....and maybe blow all those indiedevelopers on Steam into dust. |

woot woot! all my massive #'s of mining alts are trained up as far as i need them, why skill more if i don't have to? free free free isk for me, and all i need to do is plex... 0 accounts? IP limitations mean nothing to me, or any other nerd/geek worth his salt. Oh, i could plex one account, have something to shoot others with, but otherwise I'd do my best to make the market for low level mins worthless, cause i can sell so much lower than anyone else...
oh wait, everyone else can do that too. All market items would lose a crapload of their value as people don't need to grind isk to get plex with, although the isk value of plex would drop as well. For a wonder, if people don't have to pay to play THEY WONT pay, and avoiding paying CCP would be the new emergent gameplay.
Then there would be the expected influx of freetards, bringing back a flavor of the past no one wants: The eternal September. google it. Eve is one of the few games that reward hard work, craftiness, long term planning, opportunism, law breaking/enforcement and tenacity.
F2p games reward none of the above, f2p games want to charge you $ in lieu of having to do any of those activities which generate content for others simply by being there doing those activities. F2p games and gamers are the most fickle examples of games and gamers, we need none of their sort or their sport.
You are content to be content. This is not a jedi mind trick, you're just the game

As nine year old vet with- no wait, wrong speech.
Back when EVE just becoming 3 years online with awards all over the place the number of player after downtime was like ~1000-2000. At EU primetime or 18-22h EVE client time there were like 5-8k members online. We have a little more than that today in 2015.
Everything is fine.
Now F2P, why the foxtrott is this thread still open??

Love it or not, Eve will become f2p or will slowly fade. The whole market of such games switches to f2p system and concurence pressure raises every year. Now CCP offers 30 days trial accounts, I remember it was 2 weeks or 3 weeks with buddy program.
The big question is how to balance premium players and not paying ones... short or no skill queue is an option. No cloaking is also good option. But kicking accounts from the system? Maybe ban them from trade hubs, yes, but ... well, I understand, that for null dwellers the suggestion related to TiDi or not TiDi can be crucial.
But the game will defenetly need more restrictions for not-paying accounts. Just do not prevent them from exploring New Eden, let them get into nulll or PLEXes of all kind, wormholes and there should be no limitation for exploration. Cause it is the big part of EvE online apeal for new players. World full of wonders.
Absolutely free trial extension. Just click the link and get your extra 2 weeks of Eve for free!

Eve is not in any danger of being forced to be F2P.
Eve is in more danger of falling prey to a cash grab mentality. Both of these ideas should be killed with apocalyptic fire.

Now CCP offers 30 days trial accounts, I remember it was 2 weeks or 3 weeks with buddy program. A long time ago in a galaxy far far away many used to say the same things and they were wrong. That was 2007 when my son first started playing EvE. When I started in 2010 there were many that said CCP would have to follow the free to play trend that was really just getting started. They were wrong and so are you.
Free to play is supported by those who are willing to spend cash money to buy items, abilities or boosters of some sort that makes their characters BETTER in some way than those who play for free. This is a concept that we do not want in EvE and we are glad that CCP resists the demands to go that way.
You say they will need to go free to play so they can survive in the market, I do no think you are correct in your beliefs but I do know one thing for sure. If they go free to play there is a very large percentage of the vet players that will quit as the responses here clearly show. And one has to wonder how long those free to play individuals will stay in the game when they are clearly outclassed, out gunned and out earned by every single pay to play individual they come up against? |

F2P, you could limit active accounts to 2 from same IP. Halve bounties, deactivate trade skills, implants would have 0 effect on you. The list could go on. But tbh, I dont see any real need for EvE to go F2P.
Throw a 1 week free venue on all accounts, see how many will reconnect back.
I would prefer expanding the map via a mechanic similar to whs , providing incentives to resub. A new map maybe? Parallel Universes? Hopefully this is what player built gates will do. |

F2P is the only thing, short of the real deal, I will ever describe as cancerous.
It cannot die fast enough.
A game this deep, this broad and you feel entitled to F2P? Honestly, get out, just get the hell out.
And if it's that important, grind up the isk, it's not even hard. |
