I posted this in the Old Forums and had a pretty good response. I think this would be some good therapy for all of us who suffer so greatly from the dreaded Wife Aggro.
My wife is beyond irrational when hating EVE. She has no good excuse because I do NOT deny my duties as Husband and Father.... even though she likes to think I do. Regardless of what time of day or night... I get the sigh, evil look and head shake combo. It is SO annoying. I can hardly ever play EVE without a damn knot in my stomach. So far this year, I have taken 2 sick days just to stay home and play while she's at work. .. Not much else I can do. I will continue measures in an attempt to thwart the aggro and will share with you my results.
Post your experiences and share your woes. We are in this together!

Thankfully my husband is understanding unless he is really hungry then it is more "are you done yet" with a clear overtone of "get into the kitchen!!" :)
So while i dont have a tale of woe i would offer a zen hug to those that do :) |

I have a friend who is very into WoW. His wife is very much into coffee houses and more social settings. They made a deal where they will spend an hour doing what the other wants together each week. So for an hour or so each week she'll play some WoW and he'll go out to some coffee house.
Barring that start to zero in on the pointless time wasters she partakes in. Any banal reality tv shows she refuses to miss? Basically the same thing. Some people have this stigma that any and all "video games" are a complete waste of time while totally over looking the things they enjoy are often just as much a "waste of time" |

I can only imagine how impossible it must be to enjoy Eve when you have a partner who hates it. Talk about constant battles.
As for me, I was lucky enough to find the perfect woman for me. We're very in synch with damn near everything in life. We enjoy the same music, the same hobbies, see life similarly, etc. We play Eve together regularly and she's as geeked out about it as I am (well, almost!). We're also reading Tony G's book together right now (we read together often, all sorts of books).
"Opposites attract, until they repel" is my relationship motto. Go find yourself someone who loves who you are and enjoys all the things in life that you do. That's the true highway to relationship happiness! |

I read your other thread on the old forums. First, any woman that wants you to watch Doctor Phil with her should be taken to counseling. Does she want you to be her husband or one of her high school friends that has to come with her when she pees? Is she trying to turn you into a limp **** sissy? Seriously, she should get the evil man eye of doom for even suggesting such a thing. Secondly, you should have time to do things on your own and the fact that you have to take sick days to pursue a hobby is pretty telling...
She is being irrational and selfish and you are being a total ***** and promoting her bad behavior by not putting on some pants and addressing the issue for what it is, her being insecure and irrational.
Reattach your ***** and take the remote control of life back from your chick. It will only get worse until you are miserable, (sounds like you are getting there already) or you split up and realize you have wasted a lot of time with someone who didn't care for your happiness the way you cared for hers.
Don't be afraid to take her on brosef, chicks dig a man who is dominant. Just remember to fully commit and not puss out halfway through the conversation. (It should be more of a lecture if you do it right anyways) |

True, whilst your playing eve, you should send him to cookery school. Problem solved. |

I still get the Head shake, sigh, foot tapping, angry look when i decide to play EVE but i have found something she hates me doing more then eve so being smart i decided to use it to my advantage....... I just keep telling her i could go back to playing WOW. usually that makes her give me a hug and go away lol.
I do have a back up plan if that fails..... we just got a new Piano so when she wants me to get off EVE i just go start playing on the Piano .... BTW i can't play the Piano...... she then realizes that EVE keeps me quiet lol |

I've been on the receiving end of an ex ignoring me/life because he was busy playing WOW and you can't just leave things when you're in a raid.
But as a gamer myself, I can't say it bothers me if I'm playing my own game and my fiance is playing or doing his own thing. As long as neither of us start ignoring each other, or life and responsibilities, then I'm happy.

I used re-association to get around aggro from the significant other. Worked for both EVE and anime. I have an ice mining and a hi sec AP hauling day which are weights days. Anime sessions are cardio or jump rope. Now anime + eve = me in shape and adding muscle. Paired with making sure to take her out regularly things have gotten better. Amazing how fast the bitching stopped.

This is what I do with my wife. I play EVE to unwind after coming home, and she will play Wii. It works well, and staves off the wife aggro.
In the mean time, I've got a plan in play to get her to try EVE. *Crosses Fingers* |

My wife is usually pretty cool about the time I devote to EVE (or World of Tanks), but that's mainly because I endeavour to make sure I'm not sitting there for hours on end, oblivious to what is going on around me. That's a good way to end up facing "the wrath."
Kid aggro is rough, though...lots to do where they are concerned, so it can be tough to find the uninterrupted playing time that EVE requires.

My wife used to play Farmville on FB. I'm going to try and get her back into that. She can lay in bed on the Laptop and play that while on FB. It would be perfect while I'm playing EVE.

What you need to do is take a night off from EvE. Go down to the pub and get drunk. When you get home rough her up a little before bed. The next morning ask her which she likes better. |

WOW Sindjin. Your wife aggro is a lot worse than mine is. I have to schedule the OK for group activities with her ahead of time. Other wise I'm restricted to easy solo work (Mining, Exploration, some missions) cause I usually have to go tend to my wife faction during my best play hours.
It doesn't help that I'm always already on the forums all day long |

Most women just don't have hobbies... at least the ones I know. Their hobbies are their families and friends. The don't need to detach from RL for a brain dump. I have tried to explain all that too her, but she still doesn't get it. Besides... any hobby she would find, I would have to be involved in. After all "that's what marriage is all about".

Oh yeah, it's pretty bad and has gotten progressively worse. I'm going to try several tactics and see how they all work. It's not like I neglect our house, meals or children... or even her. We still do stuff together. It's a jealousy/insecurity thing I need to figure out.

My wife got hooked on x-box and the wife aggro has melted away over the years, not that it was ever bad to begin with really. EvE is pretty nice for being able to be able to go afk at a moment's notice typically, unless you are doing some kind of alliance op. WoW raiding was a problem for a while though...you can't exactly stop healing a raid at a moments notice. She never really understood that before, but now if I even talk to her when she's got a Left for Dead session going she gives me that same look, so now she understands quite well what I was talking about years ago. It cracks me up. |
