Permanant death, however, would be the death of EVE. Like PVP in general, it isn't something you can just slap on to a game after the fact. If you do, it'll almost certainly be a piece of crap, and your players will eventually figure that out, and leave. The time for permanant death being implemented in EVE was over when the game came out of beta. "If God be for us, whom can be against us?"

In EVE you are only really punished if you put most of your eggs in one basket and get ganked in it.

Tell that to the people I often drink with; people I've known and have been friends with for years, even though very few of us actually play the game we met on anymore. It's rather easy to seperate player from character. Indeed, it's done in pretty much every game already. "If God be for us, whom can be against us?"

The flipside is that responsability for some of it also lies with the original poster. so topics should be kept relevant to the problem/situation/question/or god help us a humorous poke at the community purely for satire. and ive always wanted to say this ... That or have hardcore characters have extra stat points for faster training, maybe start them with the 800k skill points plus maxed out learning. Grinding through the first couple months just doing learning skills would be pretty painful if you had to repeat every time you get podded.

The problem with penalty systems is that it actually discourages pvp. You wouldn't get fights anymore, just ganks. Nobody would take anything even remotely resembling a path of risk. As an example, Lineage2 when it first came out had very little pvp. Even when the ability to take castles came in, players were quickly disillusioned with the penalties. Almost all fights centered around abusing game mechanics to the fullest, and pvp only occured on "ninja" alts. I needed more isk, so I took a risk. I mined some ore then fled once more. I'll return to the core to escape the war!
