The beta launcher does not work in Wine at the moment, due to missing functionality in the msvcr120.dll
Unhandled exception: unimplemented function msvcr120.dll.nextafter called in 32-bit code (0x7b83a74e).

Thanks for the fast response, I got a little further with that suggestion, but got a new error.
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x0000001c in 32-bit code (0x01e67073). I suspect playing around with winetricks will probably get it working in any case.
Much appreciate the unofficial support! |

It works. Installing runs with an error for me, but you can ignore it.
Running produces another error which is due to lacking msvcr120.dll This is fixed by installing vcrun2013. Do winetricks vcrun2013 An older winetricks version might not have it, so you may have to update winetricks. It's simply a script, so you can download it, chmod +x and run.
Basic functionality works. It was able to download TQ files and launch a client. Though the settings were lost. This is because it creates a folder for the client in the SharedCache hiearchy, and eve client settings are applied per working directory, so the working path changes.
You have to manually copy settings from the old path. You can all client settings under $wineprefix/drive_c/users/$user/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE Just find the directory corresponding to the old path and copy the contents to the newly created directory (the new client has to be launched at least once for the directory to be created),
The bugs I've noticed: progress bar can get stuck on downloading files. That is, it can show "Downloading N/N" or "Please Wait..." instead of Ready with the game being playable. If a client is not terminated cleanly (mine segfaulted on Alt+Q with alsa issues), launcher hangs. |

To those experiencing the segfault after installing vcrun2013 - try running in WinXP mode
PS: attempting to select Processes in the dropdown menu results in a launcher crash. |

I got the launcher working on Ubuntu 15.04 with Wine 1.7.50 (installed off the PPA)
What I had to do was manually update winetricks:
wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Winetricks/winetricks/master/src/winetricks sudo chmod +x winetricks sudo mv winetricks /usr/bin/winetricks
Updating winetricks is important as the 20141130 version on winetricks.org has outdated checksums
I then ran winetricks --force vcrun2013 I had to use force because I previously installed the redist by hand and apparently wine has a bug with unpacking it when it's executed normally. Wintricks works around the wine bug. |

I have it working in XP mode now, I needed both vcrun2012 and vcrun2013 to finally get it working. Will keep experimenting to see exactly what is needed. |

So in XP mode i can get it going. But it is very slow to do things. Like 60seconds to log in. Or 60 seconds just to give me a log in window after clicking add account.
One feature i really really liked was the preview windows of what each account has. This was shown at evesterdam. Is that in this build?

The process view relies on DWM features. I would not be surprised if that is not supported by Wine.
I also find it ironic that you have to run in XP mode as the new launcher is not supported on XP...

I would like to also add that if you are on one of the latest wine versions, i.e. 1.7.5x (possibly only on the wine-staging branch), you must add 'd3d11' and set it to disabled, as a library override in winecfg. Failing to do this will cause the launcher to attempt to launch EVE in DX11 mode, whereupon it will crash before even starting the client.

That was my first instinct too, but I get the same error Miao Sajuuk described above.

This did not fix it for me

vcrun2012 didn't help in my case either.

Beta launcher usage on my machine, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Never use non-LTS): wget https://binaries.eveonline.com/EveLauncher-969236.exe # 44 meg, this is the installer #Let it install it somewhere. (Mine is C:\games\EVE\Launcher) #Based on the twitter recommendation: winetricks vcrun2013 # breaks on Ubuntu's version #Get the latest: wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Winetricks/winetricks/master/src/winetricks # bash ./winetricks vcrun2013 # this runs the latest version easily, can remove it afterwards.
# This gets everything ready to play. Test it with: wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Games/EVE/Launcher/evelauncher.exe
# clean up: rm EveLauncher-969236.exe ./winetricks
Realize this breaks most of the Ubuntu threads scripts as we use different windows to play rather than a single wine window. So I don't know how much I'll be using it. |

New launcher works very well
- Add msvcr120.dll native override - you will get segfaul in webkit without it.
- Can't kill clients from the launcher, but state (whether client is running or not) is tracked
So far I have no issues.
I've enabled Window Manager to handle Wine windows in `winecfg` and stopped using virtual desktop in Wine. Then there is no problems Alt-Tab'ing between Eve instances.

For me, it opens up and inmediately I get a "QtWebEngineProcess.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close" and when I close the dialog, I get a bluish window with the EVE menu on the top right. I just select on that menu "servers" and I can see how the patching is going and when its done I can launch the game, but other than that... I cant see nothing else on that window.
Its interesting, because I can launch multiple clients from there (just hitting the PLAY button) and I can alt tab (with some issues) between them.
I havent done any of the winetricks stuff.
I do know that when I originally installed wine and ran the config (to see version and such) it had to download a few stuff, but somehow I think I lost my connection and it cancelled after a few done, but I cant see where to make it so that wine restarts doing those downloads, if it really needs them.
Other than that, I can play and looks great.

This helped me. The last console output I saw was "Starting sofService" and then it would suddenly quit. |

Not sure how my system differs, but mine worked out of the box without installing anything above and beyond what I did for Eve Online to work.
Arch Linux 64 bit Wine 1.8-rc2 d3d11 - disabled already for Eve Emulation: Windows 7 version (did not need to do XP).
All fonts, buttons and multi-launch work out of the box. |

After some recent update the beta launcher (release tree) appears to be leaking memory or something.
For a while it's doing okay, but at some point the QtWebEngineProc starts rapidly eating memory, both qtwebengine and evelauncher processes start consuming a lot of cpu and appear to be doing about 1Mb/s disk I/O.
EVE fps drops to unplayable levels, qtwebengine stops eating memory at about 1,5Gb, at this point cpu load is jumping between qtwebengine and wineserver and eve gets unplayable with the resource loading thingy circling indefinitely (textures randomly disappear, fitting window does not load, that stuff).
wine 1.7.55 windows versions tested were win7 and winXP
running launcher from console showed no errors (without enabling debug channels). |

hmm works pretty fine for me.
Installation using PlayOnLinux : - download the last launcher from eveonline - launch playonlinux and install eve online - when it asks you select "inbstall from file" and select the downloaded file - when instalation is complete, just exit.
Tweaking on PoL : - change the wine version to the last one (in my case, 1.9.1) - add component : vcrun 2013 and vcrun2012 - configure wine and set it to win10 mode
Then just run the eve app and it worked for me (on two computer, a high-end one and a low-end one) |

As of latest (1.9.9 staging) I was able to change my windows version from XP to Vista with no library overrides. Still need to run client in DX9 in the launcher so no DX11 tessellation goodies yet. In other observations the odd time the launcher crashes on start, but just restarting fixes it. Socket errors are more frequent when my internet connection gets throttled, or when idling especially in certain screens like contracts. |
