My my monsieur Harlequin, you are very good at the cutting reproach I must say. But surely, if mr Yosef is to be believed, shouldnÆt there be a crowd of Jade haters just waiting to applaud his every clumsy thrust and ugly half-riposte?

Baffling ... and one can only assume that you enjoy verbal humiliation to excess and that such things help your pecker to rise more accutely in delicate theatrical intercourse.
Sadly monsieur such things will cost you a lot of money.
But of course, I imagine that is part of the lurid scene as well, non? Have I missed my guess?

True perhaps, but how boring? There is artistry in a well constructed put-down. The world would be a better place if people considered their words and linguistic presentation as works of poetic construction, and colourful epiphets provide an antidote to world-weary ennui monsieur.

Orwell would disagree with you. Flowery, elaborate speach only confuses the reader and dilutes your message. The smaller simpler word is always best.
More interesting, sure, but less effective for communicating to a large audience.
Cheers.

I don't know, there is a time and a place for both the simple one liner and eloquent slams. Jade in this thread has provided examples of both. The short in her put down of Yosef and the eloquent in her handling of Elgen. Personally I find it refreshing to see something beyond the 12 year old "STFU N00B!" putdowns.

That would be taking things to the extreme, and barely speaking english while you're at it.
And, it always depends on your purpose Lianhaun. If you intend to baffle and bewilder, by all means use as many syllables as possible. But, if you actually want to communicate with someone, or convey a point, keep it simple.
Cheers.

I entirely agree monsieur Red Six; linguistic debate is like any other form of battle, and half the struggle is to keep one's opponents off balance. Terse when length is expected, intricate when bland rebuttle is the order of the day.
The enemy should never know entirely what to expect, and besides; if one is destined to win the debate (as to be honest, any monkey is where Yosef is concerned) it's only good manners to do it with a little style and pannachÚ ...

Just watch your step, if you jump through too many verbal hoops you may end up being the only one who knows that you did in fact win. Then you may end up sounding a bit like Yoseph.

Cyrus...
I'm impressed that you've read Orwell, first off.
Secondly; I took several english classes in college, so the words Jade flings out don't phase me one bit - and if I really wanted to, I could turn the threads I post in into english minefields, using such disused words that NO ONE could figure out what I was trying to do, unless they had an english degree, or a unabridged copy of websters sitting next to them.
That's dumb though - and to be completely honest with you, that's the biggest reason I started countering Jade's posts, all those months ago.
To use the kind of language she does, in the places she does it, shows a kind of elitest flare, that quite honestly is quite annoying.
To Jade, (to quote Orwell)...

Don't measure intelligence by the initial effort. Wait for a demonstration of comprehension and application before commencing with the kudos. I'm not just talking about myself either.

Of course, all it takes is a certain degree of understanding and the "awe factor" disapears. I have always thought that Jade probes the depths of the thesaurus like she does in order to, first, intimidate, and second, alienate.
Intimidate whoever her opponent may be should he/she lack the wit to weave through the web Jade spins, and win friends and allies among the people who are just sitting an watching thorough her apparent domination, thereby alienating her opponent.
Don't get me wrong, I have no gripe with Ms. Constantine, and rather enjoy that she makes her home in Eve. I just find it interesting to observe how public figures manuvere under the spotlight.
Besides, one should never believe a PR executive when they say they are the good guys.

I had a similar reaction when I first started reading Jade's posts. But, to each his, or her, own. As long as that particular weapon is not aimed in my direction I see no reason to disarm it.
On a side note, I have to give you some credit. I wanted to see if you would fall into the pit of personal attacks and insults I had baited for you, therefore going back on your previous declaration. But, thanks to a few nimble steps you continued on to safer ground. Congrats.
Cheers.

Animal Farm is a book by George Orwell on the evils of communism.
1984 is a book by George Orwell on the evils of language, used to spin.
You should read them.
Not only are they great novels, but I'm sure you'd learn something as well.

Oh really Yosef, you think I should?
How incomplete my education has been. Perhaps I should have signed up for 20th century literature rather than flower arranging all those years ago?
Just think, a simple tick in the course preference box and I could have been an intellectual just like you you.

The name is "Yoseph", m'dear.
I do not consider myself an intellectual...
far from it.
I don't sit around all day and think.
I act. I do.
I see a problem, and fix it.
I think for myself.
I do not allow others to spood feed me spin, half truths, and out right lies.
However, I can think of few books outside of Orwell's writings, that empower a person to look at the words of others, and cut through the spin, the lies, the half truths.
How telling that you deride his work so.

"How telling" you don't get the joke Yosef
(and I'm damned if I am going to explain it to you.)
But for the record old chap; The Road to Wigan Pier and Homage to Catalonia sit amongst my works of social history close at hand and remind me the the trials and travails of revolutionary and evolutionary change.
Don't assume Yosef ... the world is stranger than you know.

I think SI gets on with the war every night.
As Morkt Drak told me tonight, your new tactic against them is to log off in systems, then claim you hold them because your logged off.
After chatting with him, I realized something.
You didn't bail because of pressure against you.
You enjoy people yelling at you, etc.
The reason you bailed is because very soon, no matter how much spin is involved, it won't be enough to counter the truth.
NVA is history. And somewhere in the EVE database, the 1s and 0s that make up Ragnar's long since abandoned character are laughing there rear ends off.
