well i guess ill add my name to the list as i too, have been having random issues in the last month or so. Same problems as everyone else as i read the multitude of complaints. Ive been playing this game for a year and a half, love it, and would HATE to loose it, however i cant keep trying to play something that is not playable for more than 1 hour at most.
Today for the first time i got jacked in an outpost. Jacked meaning i went to change ships, old ship dissapears, but new one does not. all it says is "The transport has not yet been connected, or authentication was not successful." that is exact quote. then not a thing happens after that. Before all this all i was getting was totally random ctd in space, as in anywhere. No pattern, nothing. Just connection loss. Thought it was my end so i re-installed the vid card driver that came with the card, tried diff vid card settings, increased page file size, but to no avail. anyhow, this is my rig and isp-

I too am getting connection loss on idle ( by idle I mean while I type this even lost connection)and is very annoying. I am in Australia so I do not really think it can be related to any one ISP. My system is:
AMD 64x2 5200 K9n Platnium MOBO 2gb 800mhz ram Nvidia 7950GT 512 mb vid 350GB sata 16 HD
Clean install of Eve as of 24 hours ago all drivers up to date

This has just started happening to me over the past couple of days. I get disconnected on average every half hour. There has never been a disconnect problem before and my connection and computer are rock solid. This is VERY frustrating! Fix it!

The Random disconnects seem to have gotten worse here. First I thought the prob was my wireless router, but it even keeps happening when i bypass it completely.

For me started happening since the patch 30636 (Rev 1.4). On lynksys, but also on 100MB LAN and 10MB WLAN. (Three separate networks and workstations).

Connection loss while creating characters:
I've had this problem repeatedly now. Whenever I'm creating a character, I take a while - I take ten minutes minimum, easily, playing with stats and then fiddling around to get a face that fits.
But unless I 'quickly' design the face, it ALWAYS gives me "Connection lost" after I hit the 'check availability' option. This has been a problem for two years it seems - it times out the account.
Could characters created, even if unnamed, be stored, or something, so that we don't have to start over when making a new character?
My ex had the same problem on her PC when she was making her characters and it's frustrating to new players especially who spend forever designing a character, only to have their work lost, and have to start over. Sure, now they know what they're trying to make, but it's really not confidence inspiring for a game this good to do something like that.
Also had the same problem on my last PC, almost two years ago when I first made this account. |

Edited by: Geee69 on 27/03/2007 18:13:22 I have similar problem but not just when I'm idle for a while. I loss my connection in random times for example when I write eve mail get contracts, or just writing to chat windows. Sometimes connection loss some times the client crashing. After the crasing I run EVE client and it sais "checking status... unknown..." I have to wait for a few minutes and then I can relog but then agein... I haven't got this problem jesterday. It startid in today evening when I tried to login. First it sais status unknown and then crashes and conn losses... ohh, and other things... when my client crashing and get that f..king status unknow error the eve-online.com page cannot be displayed for a while like the client "status unknown" error... all other network traffic works (other websites, MSN, teamspeak etc)
Edit: I tried to clear cache but haven't solved the problem.

I spend most of character creation on the portrait stage myself. What I do is go to the last screen every few minutes and enter gibberish into the name field, the server does a check to see if the name is available in essence "refreshing" your connection, then you can switch back to the portrait screen, if you take a really long time you might need to do this several times.

I have the problem here in the UK. However I think it might be that eve is sensitive to packet loss. I am with Toucansurf and they route through Tiscali routers. I had trouble with this service about 6 months ago on a different MMO with exactly the same issues.
As a result I have put in to changing back to a service that has BT based routers.
Am I right in saying that Tiscali are owned by France Telecom? I hate those services and I nearly cried whehn I first found out Toucan where running through those services.
Simple answer is a BT base connection - i.e. Sky, or BT and others. _________________________________________ The Girl with the really Starey eyes. |

Add one more "me too" to the count...
Since the patch, I keep disconnecting, seemingly at random. And it's quite frequent. There doesn;t seem to be any consistent pattern to it, it could happen while I'm docked, while I'm mining, while I'm ratting, just at random. If I dont shut down the client after the disconnect, it's very rare I can re-connect. If I however shut down and restart the client, I generally get right back in.
When this happens, my other network traffic is still connected... It's making me very wary in undocking at attempting to do anything... Would hate to log back in after a disconnect to be in either a clone vat or a pod...

This might be an individual fix for me, but the last time i lost connection, i noticed a "whirring noise" from my PC as soon as i got the connection lost message and the login screen appearing. It was my hard drive coming back to life.
Quick delve into windows power management settings, turned the hard drive sleep after x minutes from 30 to NEVER. To be safe i turned off almost all my power management stuff. Haven't disconnected since :) Again, might only be for me :)

I work in IT. QWest DSL with one of their high quality lines (Buddy in their connections dept.) I have a Cisco DSL router, and my computer is plugged into the back of that. The router has an uptime of more than a week currently. The problem is not my end.
I have been having random disconnects. Everywhere. They vary from every 30 mins to every 2. I have had 2 while I WAS WRITING THIS POST!!! I can't use mining drones, because they get ganked while I am logging back in. I can't help in PvP because I am blinking. I am a relatively new player, and hope this is just a temporary thing...
I run applications that are FAR more time sensative than this one, most of the rest of the day I'm not on. The game is fantastic other wise - please don't make me quit because of a bad NetCode!

yeah i am a newbie to the game loving the complexity compared to other MMORPGs but finding the frequent disconnections annoying. for me i find it is happening when i am in combat(currently trying to do the tutorial missions to understand the game) and when i have 3 or more ships all firing on me and then 1 explodes then i seam to get a disconnection. I am also in australia.

Well i can add my name to this list of ppl having the exact same issues. idle for 30 seconds and boom, disconnect from eve. I can say that having the help channel minmized does help because there is constant talking in there so keeps me connected mostly.
Oh and what a surprise , guess which isp i'm with?

Edited by: LiBraga on 03/04/2007 18:05:25 Just a reminder....
A few of the internets main backbones (located in Taiwan) are still being repaired. Untill these are fixed those who's main traffic that would normally pass through them will experience packet loss of high levels. For normal net usuage you usually wouldn't notice however with various mmos that require a constant connection it will cause disconnects... and these will be random and can be often. As with every other MMO, CCP can't be held responsible for Internet issues. Sorry to remind you all, I know how irritating it can be from when one of BTs backbones went pop. Also note you don't need to live near Taiwan to be affected by this. --------------- What! Caldari have dps now... noooo Aye, T2 HAMs FTW!!!!! |

OK Im posting this here too, maybe you have same config or simmilar prob than mine. Its concerning disconnects in general if you have router.
Originally by: Avid Amari
OK I found a SOLLUTION.
Took me countless hours and some headaches and yelling at CCP who were not to blame, nether is my ISP. The problem seems bizare at first glance, but its totally verified and tested (repeatable beyond any doubt).
My setup: I hope all who have this issue can identify yourself with this allso. My gaming PC is far from remarkable. It consists of AMD XP 2k CPU, nVidia geforce 6800GT, 1.5 Gb RAM, 450 Gb RAID disks, nForce 2 chipset motherboard, Audigy 2 sound card and im running Windows VISTA. I have 2 PCs connected to my Netgear router which is then connected to my Motorola Cable modem 2000/256. Mediocre gaming machine which served me for 2 years and I hope to squeese some 6 more months out of it.
CAUSE: OK cause of my disconnecting issue is laughable because If everything in this world would be ideal, the problem wouldnt exist in the first place. Its fact P2P programs such as Emule, Torrent programs and such have a high demmand on router resources by making too many simultaneous connections at any given time, causing router to overload. Todays commercial (all sub 100$) routers werent meant for such a beating. What do I mean by this? Well router has onboard CPU to process the streaming data flow and RAM to memorize incomming and outgoing connections to a route table. This route table is quite limmiting when it comes to P2P programs such as uTorrent for example. How soo? Well Torrent programs make way too much connections, which fills up the route table quite fast and CLOGS it up, leaving very little to none resources available for other processes (let it be browsing, gaming or internet radio/video). Well such is the case that Games, and other streaming connections such as Internet radio/video require a very stable uninterrupted data flow as possible. Since uTorrent pounds at the router constantly, such stable data flow is impossible with these cheap routers where table corruption occurs because of insufficient ressources. Router just cant handle it because it lacks RAM to store all those requests of outgoing and incomming traffic.
SOLLUTION: Sollution is quite simple and straightforward. All you have to do is disable any such program from running (utorrent, emule, and other P2P sw). Then you have to physically unplug your router and modem from power for 3 minutes appr. (go make a coffe or something). First plug in the router and let it sit for 2 min, then you power on your modem and wait a bit for them two to sync up. Check if internet is working by opening google page or simmilar.
As stupid as this sounds my friends, its the holy trouth. It kinda suxx todays router manufacturers are skimping on the routers circuit innards, but lets be honest, they didnt have P2P programs in mind when they made those things. If you want a permanent sollution read on the reccomendation.
RECCOMENDATION: For all of you P2P lovers out there, who cant live without having it turned on for 24/7, read on. Well there are gamer routers and network cards out there. Why is this of any signifficance? Because these are specially build with best possible electronics and aditional onboard ram to cope with such issues and lag too. 2nd option you have which works best of all is you make your own router rig. Being a linux computer PC setup solely to act as a router. Have that baby configured as you please. Its prooven beyond any doubt that this setup works against lag and can cope with all and any P2P requests because it has more powerfull CPU (depends what CPU are you willing to use for this project), and enough RAM (depends how much ram are you willing to sacriffice).

Just in case it is a hardware problem Nvidia 7950gx2 (not running in sli mode) AMD 64 4000 2gb RAM 400gb harddrive

Edited by: Mini Mizer on 06/04/2007 14:52:21 While running multiple accounts on various PC equipment. (hardware doesnt seem to matter much) If I work from another pc for a bit and come back to Eve and a skill has finished training on an account - Im 90% likely to have been disconnected on 2/3 accounts. Doesn't matter if I use a dlink or linksys router or none. They just disconnect and the screen appears like Im still playing til I click something. This happens while docked, while flying, while jumping. New install, old install, No sound, minimal settings, nothing really seems to improve it. It is not good.
GuildWars has to kick me off the server connection after being online for 2+ days straight. Eve - well, 5 mins maybe 15 maybe 2 hours....

You can count me into it.
Since today I do have exactly the same problem. I don't have any P2P-program running. The connection-lost problem happens with or without using my Netgear-router.
I don't know what caused the problem - yesterday there was nothing. I reinstalled the game but it did not help to solve the problem.
Hopefully that get fixed too.

Edited by: Avid Amari on 09/04/2007 10:18:12 Maybe you have any other program running, that requires constant connection and/or data stream to interfere with EVEs. (AIM, MSN, internet radio....)
Ive noticed after the big patching and HW replacement frenzy began at CCP, we all started getting unstable connections. Because of differing setups of people, different consummers get such problems. Its not uniform throughout, and thats whats not logical to CCP. Hard to isolate any hardware or software mallfunction if you dont get consistent reports of failures/crashes and dissconnects across the board.
I solved my problem by clearing router and modem cache (router table) by reseting it and leaving it off for a few minutes. And offcourse turning off of any programs that may use internet connection.
I further optimized the client by clearing of the cache and tweaking the prefs.ini file. Helped to improove my EVE experience to what it should be without all of this fiddling around.
I really wished I could help more. I wish I found out the CAUSE instead only been able to remedy its symptoms. Wish I had a more NOBLE sollution.
