I keep getting a connection loss anytime i go afk for a few minutes on any one of my accounts. But i still keep my connection to ts and my other accounts dont have connection issues either as long as i am doing something with them.
Not sure if this is an issue on my end or not. I reinstalled eve, restarted both my cable modem router and switches still nothing. I did not have this problem before x-mas but i just got back and it is driving me nuts.
Any help would be appreciated

what router you use? it might close the port when no traffic comes. eve doesnt have much traffic, specially when you afk

I too am seeing this as of the last few weeks or last month. No router involved to be timing out connections. From what I see analyzing the traffic, the CCP side of the TCP connection simply stops responding. The client continues trying to send data, with no acknowledgment coming from the CCP side.
It's very bizarre, and only happens if you go idle -- however, it will happen if you go idle for < 3 minutes at times.

Trying the trail version have all the lastest patches etc, log on no worries start playing then connection lost. There is no time limit to when it happens played for 3-4Hrs Saturday but the rest of the time lucky to get 10-15Mins. So to me this isnt a good seller for the game, the pure frustration of having to reconnect every 10 Mins is swaying me away from this game. But it could be my end not theirs, so if anyone has had this happen and fixed it could you let me know. I have no prob going back to playing AA (10 days to convince me its worth paying for this at the rate of disconnects it my be 10Mins) Cheers

Safter almost a month playing EVE, just tonight I am disconnecting every ten minutes. It's never happened to me before, expcept for very occasional disconnects. Hopefully it's a one-off. It's a peak time, idk if that makes a difference, not that I haven't played at peak time before.

In regards to the idle-time disconnects described by Sophism and Ess Hai, I've noticed - and been greatly annoyed by - the same behavior. With only my main connected it will happen only rarely, but will happen invariably when I have more clients connected. After only a few minutes idle (perfect answering-the-door/answering-the-phone amount of time), I'll be disconnected.
My router doesn't seem to drop on its own after that idle time. I've tried a couple logging tools (integrated and machine-side) and from what I can tell, it still seems to attempt to send out client data after that amount of time, but just gets no response. I've only watched this when it's only my main connected. I have no way of testing - and being able to decipher which open client is getting/not-getting that data without going into extreme network-tool-wh*re sleuth mode - with multiple clients on my single machine.
I could try updating my router's firmware (it really doesn't need), but it just doesn't feel or seem like this side is the issue.
Is there any other possible solution to try or diagnostic I can run? |

Sry I dont know the solution but I am also experiencing same thing which started 4-5 days ago. Im loosing connection non stop which never happened before, OK maybe 1-3 connection loss within one week. Connection is lost when idleing in station after 3-5 mins, and during afk jumps, after couple of jumps.
Im on T-com ADSL and using their Kasda router + my D-link DI-524 wireless router (with latest firmware)
Ill repeat that loosing connection started 4-5 days ago without any software or hardware change on my PC --

I too am having this very same problem. In December this issue did not exist, but the last week this has been negatively impacting my ability to play the game tremendously. Today, I played for 3 hours without any problems. On my 3rd mission, 3rd wave, I timed out. I logged back in 30 minutes later, killed 2 rats, timed out, lost some drones, etc. If my drones are launched, and I noticed my ammunition is not depleting and damage is no longer registering, I can tell my drones to come back and turn on full armor repair. When I come back, my drones are safe and I have no damage. Therefore, I am sending data to the game; I am just not recieving data. Every other application under God's green creation works just fine; not EVE.

The problem with this is that its intermittent as hell. One night you can mine for 5 hours without problem and others you cant even make a jump without 3-4 connection losses. Seeing as how my comp config does not change between when it works and when it doesnt, I have to wonder whether its on their end. Need support reply already.

Chances of getting a Tech support reply on this subject = None. why? becuase they are always aware of the issue and their hands are tied behind their backs..forum mods really cant talk about the issue just say its being investigated or worked on...Do what everyone else has done and just give up on it..i expect 1 in 10 people suffer some disconnect or latency upset everyday its what makes Eve...EVE...

I have a similar problem, one of my accounts seems to Drop Connection after a while afk. I know it's not a router issue as between my wife and I we have at least 4 accounts running at the same time. I might see if a re-install of eve solves the problem, I'll let you know if it works.

I too am experiencing this problem, I am however running 6 computers and got +7 accounts, two machines don’t ctd at all this way, however one machine, that have had no new drives, no new firmware etc that worked wonders earlier for + 1 year with no timeout, on the same internet lines as the rest of the machines, on the same router, do not have this problem. So... its got nothing to do with the time out on the line itself, or the router, it must be something.. I think, in either the client or the new routers that CCP recently installed that is causing this issue.
Frankly its totally frustrating as I live in 0.0 and PvP a lot and I use my many accounts as scouts and intel gathering in warfare. This is making the issue not good, especially as when u monitor a POS in a 200 + mill ship cloaked and it times out.. regularly and.. the pos kills you.. du to warp out not being fast enough..
Fix this one please ASAP..

You may want to update the firmware on the linksys router because there has been an confirmed issue with ghosteing connections.
What this generally means is that old connections kept being memorised and either causes the buffer (memory) to fill up or can cause repeated connectivety problems (teamspeak and some other programs can reastablish an lost connection without to much effort but eve wont because of security).
If that doesn't work i would suggest checking wireing (faulty sockets, connection point or wireing in generall).
However this somehow sounds more like an issue with ISP terminateing inactive TCP/IP connections.

I am new to EVE but I think my experiance is no coinsidence. I noticed one person said "everything was fine before christmas" and another "its been a problem for the last month or so." In all my years of playing MMOs on --->WIRELESS<---- --->Linksis<------ modems, I have had issues ONLY this time of year. I don't know what causes it, I believe it is the lack of wires combined with extra traffic from all the new X-box live and WoW subscriptions that appeared under the holiday tree. But Christmas and wireless don't get along. It's why I switched to a landline. I had to wait months for a stable connection...
it happens every year (2003=SWG, 2004=EQ2, 2005=WoW, 2006= bought a landline, problem solved.)
Hope this helps

ITS NOT TISCALLI ONLY
Got this problem also with other ISP`s first Orange now Tele2. Its all server site and you can Tracert the line whole day but its not saying anything at all because you have ups and downs in the line because of traffic its a normal thing. Its even getting better because Eve is now turning off my PC completly First its starts with the DC ones in a hour now after docking and a view minutes idly it shuts down my PC. Something in the Eve program/software is causing it.

Are you sure its not some kinds of ISP traffic shaping, idle connections on gaming ports? cant say for others SPs tho, IF orange tele2 LLU via tiscali might explain same problem? I must say its never shut down my pc, but i dont play much atm

Its just the patching patching patching patching patching patching patching patching patching patching patching patching patching .......thats making a mess of the gameplay. 1 problem solved and another 10 problems shows up. That`s going on for almost a year now.

I have connection losses quite regularly the last couple of days.
On TS they told me that I had disconnected while my client thought it was still online. Only to find out when trying to dock that 'connection was lost xx second(s) ago' ...
Its not related to my ISP because all other things keep on working just fine.
Will keep an eye out to see if an explanation and solution is found, cuz its very annoying.

I've had this same issue since my return to the game the past week, the GM's have been very helpful in trying to solve this issue, it then got sent up to the tech support team who suggested the following,
"Thank you for contacting customer support. In order to thoroughly test your connection to the EVE server then I recommend that you download a program called pingplotter which is available here http://www.pingplotter.com/downloads/pngplt_2.exe If you are running a hardware firewall (SPI Firewall) on your router you will need to disable it, as otherwise this program won't work. Run ping plotter and set it to trace to 87.237.38.200, this being the EVE server, then set it to run at 1 minute intervals for 60 runs and statistics to include these 60 intervals. After that then try to login to the EVE server with the program running in the background. If your connection drops while running the pingplotter program then check if you get any packet loss or unusually high ping times at any node along the way. Save the results and send us the sample file (pp2). Best regards, Senior GM EVE Online Customer Support Would you like to open the petition?"
After doing as he suggested found 3 servers that Tiscali is routeing me thru that have alot of packet loss, i'm still waiting for a reply from tech support but it would seem these server problems are effecting gamers and vent users, there are many forum discussions about these same problems on other games.
Hope it gets fixed b4 the weekend even tho the weekend has started..

After the Revelations version I started getting disconnects when idle, it never happened with RMR. For those of you with that issue, try joining the help channel; the constant chatter in there seems enough to keep the connection active. That has worked for me.
It's sad that CCP seems to push workarounds instead of solutions, on the rare occasions they bother to comment.

This is frustrating! I also have been getting more and more disconnects if i'm idle, but tonight was bad! I'm right in the middle of a storyline agent mission. Video was choppy, and right in the middle of a battle, Eve closed the connection
I tried several times, but would only stay logged on for a few min. So I did the routine inspection of all my settings, internet status etc etc..everything was fine on my end. I was able to get into other websites but EVEONLINE.com took for ever sometimes not loading up. Nothing was popping up as far as any news on the servers so I tried to petition but Ive maxed out user petition (s) 3 of them from ages ago.....Now my mission expires and I lose mega isk....SUX! they need more engineers to monitor server status...I think all they had to do is reboot the server......

The same disconnects happens to me, it all started sunday. I've never ever ever had these problems before. I'm a data technician and know how my pc, router, dsl connection, etc. etc. works. It's NOT a user / pc / network problem, but a serverside drop in connection.

I have this problem also, and reply to petition was client side and/or ISP issue. Strange is that other online games work fine.
I did find this entry (by Domitia Corbula) which might be a culprit (my router uses Linux kernel 2.4.17): "Update on my last post: Looks like I was right, Linux kernel 2.4 and early 2.6 kernels will reset any connection it's NATing if it sees a TCP checksum error. A lot of broadband routers out there are based on Linux and the problem is likely not confined to Linux. I use a PC running Fedora Core Linux as my broadband router. Once I upgraded it to Fedora Core 6 which uses a recent 2.6 kernel. Zero problems in the weeks since.
If you're a techie, you could try turning your router into a bridge and run PPPoE on Windows directly - but make sure you've got Windows firewall on and you're fully patched.
If not, keep screaming to CCP to get the router that's corrupting the packets fixed."

Does E-Mule cause problems when playing EVE? I am currently trying to find an even ground with my roommate who wants to use E-Mule to download stuff but as soon as he turns it on I get this "Local Area Network Disconnected" message which repeats itself over and over. I want to get along with him but this message only seems to go away when I go into the router settings and disable the port settings for his E-Mule. Thats when I can play EVE normally.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Since my last post 20/2-2007 The problems are still the same!! I can log in to EVE, no problem. BUT when I'm idle 2-3 minutes without doing anything, I get "Connection Lost" the second I open Character Sheet, Market, Assets, Wallet, etc.
I have tried the following and problem is still the same:
Cisco 871 Router Dlink 624 Router (New firmware version) Linksys BEFSR41 Router (New firmware version) New ethernet cables all round. Tested on 3 different PC's(Same problem). Downloaded new fresh client. Formatted and reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP2 w/ updates. Contacted ISP and had them log if my connection drops(It does NOT, other Internet applications works fine and shows no disconnect). New drivers(LAN, Video, Motherboard, Sound) Making all new settings(Deleted ../cache/settings folder)
Said in short, I've tried ALL that's possible for me to do
Can CCP address this problem as a bug, random error, drop in connection, whatever.

Same problem here, go afk, connection lost guaranteed. Didn't ask all my corp mates but i know some that have this problem too.
What you can do when you are in POS get in a ship that has active hardner or maybe shieldbooster or whatever module you can activate without running out of cap. Helps me stay online.
I hope CCP checks it out, its annoying.

I notice it when I don't do much on the connection or go afk for awhile but one thing I have noticed is this.
When running two clients one account will invariably *never* be dropped yet the other one is. I've had one account lose connection up to 3x in 48 hours but the other one disconnects once in 2-3 weeks. The supreme irony of the issue is that the account that disconnects is the one that is most active. Go figure.

Edited by: Speed Burnout on 28/02/2007 13:49:17 I have had this problem since the revelations patch. I have 4 accounts and it happens on all of my accounts anywhere I play. I have the same problem at home, work and even at a friendÆs house. It does not matter if I am running 4 accounts from the same location or just 1. Most of my corp mates have this problem too.
When I am mining with 2 accounts and tanking with a 3rd everything is fine. The problem is with the hauler account. If I leave my hauler in the base for more than 2 or 3 minutes that account will loose connection, but I will not notice until I try to do something on that account or see that user drop from local and gang on my other accounts. If I bring the hauler out the belt everything is fine and there is no connection loss.
I have been making cyno alts and cannot sit in a station and wait for a 15 minutes skill without loosing connection. Everything look good until the skill finishes and then the skill sits at pending and when you try to do anything is when you find out that your connection has timed out.
If I am doing recon and I am cloaked at a gate without any rats, I have to constantly check the market or assets to keep connected. This can be a real problem to have your connection lost and not no it until your corp mates are asking why you are not reporting the hostiles that are coming thru the gate that you are supposed to be watching.
I have tried to subscribe to active chat channels and this seems to help some, but I still get disconnected when I am idle on an account. I only get disconnected on idle accounts.

I and several of my corp mates from around the globe are having the SAME problem. I uninstalled the EVE client, I updated ALL of my drivers, I upgraded my router firmware.... no luck.
It is also only when my accounts are idle. This happens if I idle for less then a minute or so. So no drinks, no breaks, or you disconnect. This makes me almost useless in PvP as my mates never know when Ill warp away due to disconnect.
CCP PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS... We all can't be having technical problems on our end.....

Sounds like your ISP's are traffic shaping. If this was an EVE problem, the forum would be flooded by a lot more than this ammount (thousands of players, not 10-20). A few of you are on Tiscali, which are known to fiddle about with port monitoring, and traffic/packet shaping so that their network doesn't become over-utilised. --- Cache Clearer |

I worked for my ISP and I know they do not use traffic shapeing. Even if they did other traffic would get a higher priority then ours but I do not see how traffic shaping would disconnect an EVE session after only 60 sec on inactivity. The EVE client sends keep alives so I am unsure why even though I may not be interacting with the interface why a network element (router, firewall) would even consider our sessions as inactive??
I do agree it may be an ISP problem as from what I understand CCP just rehomed their connections. However, I never had this problem before and have been on the same ISP where I was the Chief Network Engineer for several years, until the past few weeks.
I am located in the US. Where is everyone else that is having this problem?

Same problem since the patch about 3 weeks ago. One account (2nd computer) runs without ever disconnecting. The other account disconnects periodically lately.
It started to disconnect when I would idle for more than 3-4 minutes. Updated drivers, cleaned chache, reinstalled EVE and now it disconnects when I jump/undock/warpin every 10 minutes. Before CCP claims it's your router/IP... Both of my computers run on the same router, and the only thing that started these disconnects was one of the previous EVE patches. Will experiment more tonight, but it looks like CCP needs to get their routers/servers fixed once and for all.

I've got a crazy theory that I'm wondering if might have truth to it.
Everyone who has had the idle disconnects, are the characters who are plagued by it originating from a "power of two" account? I've got 5 accounts. My two oldest characters have never had this problem, they never idle out....ever. But all my other ones do, and they're either on an account which was "power of two" or transferred from being on one originally. This leads me to believe maybe there is corruption of the specific character files on CCP'S end.

Hi Folks,
Just to add to the grow number of whines...
I have been experiencing serious connection issue since late saturday the 10th of March. I have rebooted my router, computer, network, reconfigured, pinged, traceroot, and changed my DNS server to openDNS to try and improve things.
I have swapped my router to a modem I have checked connections, cables, line etc...
After all this I visited my local isp forum to see if they were behind it and well. Tiscali is currently moving enmass all of its customer base from IPStream to DataStream. This process is ongoing and requires a measure of disruption, customers are being moved in batches and not all at the sametime, and are experiencing up to 4 days of poor performance related issues due to the move.
I have therefore come to the conclusive that Tiscali isn't the only ISP doing this since DataStream is a newer ADSL technology and will most likely be used by all ISPs eventually.
My suggestion is that all people currently having problems with EVE check their ISP for ongoing service updates. I suspect that I'll be getting problems for more than just 4 days.
Hope this helps.

Im with PlusNET (UK) and have been getting connection losses frequently for the last week or so. Its worse when im running 2 clients, and mostly seems to occur when a client is idle for a short time. When I return to the client and make any input the connection drops. My ISP has spoken of 'traffic shaping' where they have given low priority to p2p and highest priority to html and gaming, so this shouldnt be the problem. ______________

well i guess ill add my name to the list as i too, have been having random issues in the last month or so. Same problems as everyone else as i read the multitude of complaints. Ive been playing this game for a year and a half, love it, and would HATE to loose it, however i cant keep trying to play something that is not playable for more than 1 hour at most.
Today for the first time i got jacked in an outpost. Jacked meaning i went to change ships, old ship dissapears, but new one does not. all it says is "The transport has not yet been connected, or authentication was not successful." that is exact quote. then not a thing happens after that. Before all this all i was getting was totally random ctd in space, as in anywhere. No pattern, nothing. Just connection loss. Thought it was my end so i re-installed the vid card driver that came with the card, tried diff vid card settings, increased page file size, but to no avail. anyhow, this is my rig and isp-

Connection loss while creating characters:
I've had this problem repeatedly now. Whenever I'm creating a character, I take a while - I take ten minutes minimum, easily, playing with stats and then fiddling around to get a face that fits.
But unless I 'quickly' design the face, it ALWAYS gives me "Connection lost" after I hit the 'check availability' option. This has been a problem for two years it seems - it times out the account.
Could characters created, even if unnamed, be stored, or something, so that we don't have to start over when making a new character?
My ex had the same problem on her PC when she was making her characters and it's frustrating to new players especially who spend forever designing a character, only to have their work lost, and have to start over. Sure, now they know what they're trying to make, but it's really not confidence inspiring for a game this good to do something like that.
Also had the same problem on my last PC, almost two years ago when I first made this account. |

I loss my connection in random times for example when I write eve mail get contracts, or just writing to chat windows. Sometimes connection loss some times the client crashing. After the crasing I run EVE client and it sais "checking status... unknown..." I have to wait for a few minutes and then I can relog but then agein... I haven't got this problem jesterday. It startid in today evening when I tried to login. First it sais status unknown and then crashes and conn losses... ohh, and other things... when my client crashing and get that f..king status unknow error the eve-online.com page cannot be displayed for a while like the client "status unknown" error... all other network traffic works (other websites, MSN, teamspeak etc)

I have the problem here in the UK. However I think it might be that eve is sensitive to packet loss. I am with Toucansurf and they route through Tiscali routers. I had trouble with this service about 6 months ago on a different MMO with exactly the same issues.
As a result I have put in to changing back to a service that has BT based routers.
Am I right in saying that Tiscali are owned by France Telecom? I hate those services and I nearly cried whehn I first found out Toucan where running through those services.

Add one more "me too" to the count...
Since the patch, I keep disconnecting, seemingly at random. And it's quite frequent. There doesn;t seem to be any consistent pattern to it, it could happen while I'm docked, while I'm mining, while I'm ratting, just at random. If I dont shut down the client after the disconnect, it's very rare I can re-connect. If I however shut down and restart the client, I generally get right back in.
When this happens, my other network traffic is still connected... It's making me very wary in undocking at attempting to do anything... Would hate to log back in after a disconnect to be in either a clone vat or a pod...

This might be an individual fix for me, but the last time i lost connection, i noticed a "whirring noise" from my PC as soon as i got the connection lost message and the login screen appearing. It was my hard drive coming back to life.
Quick delve into windows power management settings, turned the hard drive sleep after x minutes from 30 to NEVER. To be safe i turned off almost all my power management stuff. Haven't disconnected since :) Again, might only be for me :)

I work in IT. QWest DSL with one of their high quality lines (Buddy in their connections dept.) I have a Cisco DSL router, and my computer is plugged into the back of that. The router has an uptime of more than a week currently. The problem is not my end.
I have been having random disconnects. Everywhere. They vary from every 30 mins to every 2. I have had 2 while I WAS WRITING THIS POST!!! I can't use mining drones, because they get ganked while I am logging back in. I can't help in PvP because I am blinking. I am a relatively new player, and hope this is just a temporary thing...
I run applications that are FAR more time sensative than this one, most of the rest of the day I'm not on. The game is fantastic other wise - please don't make me quit because of a bad NetCode!

Well i can add my name to this list of ppl having the exact same issues. idle for 30 seconds and boom, disconnect from eve. I can say that having the help channel minmized does help because there is constant talking in there so keeps me connected mostly.
Oh and what a surprise , guess which isp i'm with?

Edited by: LiBraga on 03/04/2007 18:05:25 Just a reminder....
A few of the internets main backbones (located in Taiwan) are still being repaired. Untill these are fixed those who's main traffic that would normally pass through them will experience packet loss of high levels. For normal net usuage you usually wouldn't notice however with various mmos that require a constant connection it will cause disconnects... and these will be random and can be often. As with every other MMO, CCP can't be held responsible for Internet issues. Sorry to remind you all, I know how irritating it can be from when one of BTs backbones went pop. Also note you don't need to live near Taiwan to be affected by this. --------------- What! Caldari have dps now... noooo Aye, T2 HAMs FTW!!!!! |

OK Im posting this here too, maybe you have same config or simmilar prob than mine. Its concerning disconnects in general if you have router.
Originally by: Avid Amari
OK I found a SOLLUTION.
Took me countless hours and some headaches and yelling at CCP who were not to blame, nether is my ISP. The problem seems bizare at first glance, but its totally verified and tested (repeatable beyond any doubt).
My setup: I hope all who have this issue can identify yourself with this allso. My gaming PC is far from remarkable. It consists of AMD XP 2k CPU, nVidia geforce 6800GT, 1.5 Gb RAM, 450 Gb RAID disks, nForce 2 chipset motherboard, Audigy 2 sound card and im running Windows VISTA. I have 2 PCs connected to my Netgear router which is then connected to my Motorola Cable modem 2000/256. Mediocre gaming machine which served me for 2 years and I hope to squeese some 6 more months out of it.
CAUSE: OK cause of my disconnecting issue is laughable because If everything in this world would be ideal, the problem wouldnt exist in the first place. Its fact P2P programs such as Emule, Torrent programs and such have a high demmand on router resources by making too many simultaneous connections at any given time, causing router to overload. Todays commercial (all sub 100$) routers werent meant for such a beating. What do I mean by this? Well router has onboard CPU to process the streaming data flow and RAM to memorize incomming and outgoing connections to a route table. This route table is quite limmiting when it comes to P2P programs such as uTorrent for example. How soo? Well Torrent programs make way too much connections, which fills up the route table quite fast and CLOGS it up, leaving very little to none resources available for other processes (let it be browsing, gaming or internet radio/video). Well such is the case that Games, and other streaming connections such as Internet radio/video require a very stable uninterrupted data flow as possible. Since uTorrent pounds at the router constantly, such stable data flow is impossible with these cheap routers where table corruption occurs because of insufficient ressources. Router just cant handle it because it lacks RAM to store all those requests of outgoing and incomming traffic.
SOLLUTION: Sollution is quite simple and straightforward. All you have to do is disable any such program from running (utorrent, emule, and other P2P sw). Then you have to physically unplug your router and modem from power for 3 minutes appr. (go make a coffe or something). First plug in the router and let it sit for 2 min, then you power on your modem and wait a bit for them two to sync up. Check if internet is working by opening google page or simmilar.
As stupid as this sounds my friends, its the holy trouth. It kinda suxx todays router manufacturers are skimping on the routers circuit innards, but lets be honest, they didnt have P2P programs in mind when they made those things. If you want a permanent sollution read on the reccomendation.
RECCOMENDATION: For all of you P2P lovers out there, who cant live without having it turned on for 24/7, read on. Well there are gamer routers and network cards out there. Why is this of any signifficance? Because these are specially build with best possible electronics and aditional onboard ram to cope with such issues and lag too. 2nd option you have which works best of all is you make your own router rig. Being a linux computer PC setup solely to act as a router. Have that baby configured as you please. Its prooven beyond any doubt that this setup works against lag and can cope with all and any P2P requests because it has more powerfull CPU (depends what CPU are you willing to use for this project), and enough RAM (depends how much ram are you willing to sacriffice).

Edited by: Mini Mizer on 06/04/2007 14:52:21 While running multiple accounts on various PC equipment. (hardware doesnt seem to matter much) If I work from another pc for a bit and come back to Eve and a skill has finished training on an account - Im 90% likely to have been disconnected on 2/3 accounts. Doesn't matter if I use a dlink or linksys router or none. They just disconnect and the screen appears like Im still playing til I click something. This happens while docked, while flying, while jumping. New install, old install, No sound, minimal settings, nothing really seems to improve it. It is not good.
GuildWars has to kick me off the server connection after being online for 2+ days straight. Eve - well, 5 mins maybe 15 maybe 2 hours....

You can count me into it.
Since today I do have exactly the same problem. I don't have any P2P-program running. The connection-lost problem happens with or without using my Netgear-router.
I don't know what caused the problem - yesterday there was nothing. I reinstalled the game but it did not help to solve the problem.
Hopefully that get fixed too.

Edited by: Avid Amari on 09/04/2007 10:18:12 Maybe you have any other program running, that requires constant connection and/or data stream to interfere with EVEs. (AIM, MSN, internet radio....)
Ive noticed after the big patching and HW replacement frenzy began at CCP, we all started getting unstable connections. Because of differing setups of people, different consummers get such problems. Its not uniform throughout, and thats whats not logical to CCP. Hard to isolate any hardware or software mallfunction if you dont get consistent reports of failures/crashes and dissconnects across the board.
I solved my problem by clearing router and modem cache (router table) by reseting it and leaving it off for a few minutes. And offcourse turning off of any programs that may use internet connection.
I further optimized the client by clearing of the cache and tweaking the prefs.ini file. Helped to improove my EVE experience to what it should be without all of this fiddling around.
I really wished I could help more. I wish I found out the CAUSE instead only been able to remedy its symptoms. Wish I had a more NOBLE sollution.

Ok time to add my name to the list of the slightly disgruntled.
I grant I play eve with 2 or more clients running at the same time, but ever since the last patch I have been getting disconnected randomly, when I've been idle on one client too long or whenever, but it is generally random.
Now I've tried reinstalling my router drivers, tried a new router, tried an old router, I've reinstalled Eve and I keep getting the same problem. Got to admit though it has improved from when this issue first started I was getting disconnected every 7 minutes.
Oh and once it starts that's it doesn't matter whether I have one client open or 3 I still get disconnected. As I fly a freighter around regularly this is getting.... urm annoying.
There we go my two penneths.

Just came from a vist to my parrents. Was DC'ing at least once an hour there. Put it down to router or ISP issues.
Back in my flat now, different router manufacturer, different ISP, and still the same issue. The only thing constant is that I'm South of London.
It's driving me crazy DC'ing on missions as I loose my drones and end up having to warp back in to mission starting point - often a dangerous place to be.
I can confirm that I can give orders while "lagging out". I can get my drones to return to my bay sometimes, I can chat and people can see the chat, yet I don't get any data back to the client until I get booted.

Same problem here.
Two computers both with the problem, single Netgear DG834G, Tiscali ISP, South London location.
For me, started on March 28/29, happens without any P2P programs running, and also affects BF2142 and MSN - possibly anything reliant upon UDP.
Funny thing is, it seems to more or less sort itself out late in the evening - Tiscali do bandwidth management for heavy users between 6pm and 11pm, so it might be related.
Reboots of the router don't seem to help.

I also was having problems with d/c lately. Didn't report since they seemed random. But as I got more of them I notticed that games losses connection most frequently when I dock to station after I complete agent's mission. The mission itself goes smooth but when I dock and try to open agent's window it comes out empty. And if I try to open my cargo inventory or any other window - just nothing happens. In ~30-60 seconds after that I get "Connection Lost" window and game exits back to login screen. But now here comes the funny thing! While I'm being unable to open any agent/inventory/etc screens - the chat itself works fine! I mean for that ~30-60 seconds I can see what people are typing and I can type back. And yeah, I'm not using any p2p software (at least at the moment of these d/cs) and my internet connection itself is stable, so..

Same here. My disconnection issues started since the 'network maintenance' CCP had about 2 weeks ago. I never had a single disconnection before while playing EVE in all kinds of situations, and now I'm getting regular DC every day.
Today after the patch, it got worse. Constant mass DC. When any of my corpmate or myself see lag coming, we know DC is coming. And BOOM! suddenly corpmates drop out 1-by-1 in a chain. And we're all scattered all over the EVE universe, so discount "You-must-be-in-Jita" probabilities. Frankly, I would rather there be no patch works(except those really important ones), and there be more network/hardware improvements. If ppl don't DC and lose their ships due to DC, would there be any reason for handling so many reimbursement petitions everyday?

This was happening to me occasionally on a dial-up (I know don't laugh, it's a long story) connection before the patch - I am away from home at the moment, but I am guessing it has not gone away with the patch. So it is possible this is not just broadband router related as others have suggested, since I don't have one.
I was assuming it was the ISP but now i am not so sure. I am starting to see a 1.4x link too. Oh well, I will be back trying this out on Thursday / Friday - maybe it will be all fixed by then ....

The ping helps a bit, as does joining the help channel in game.
However, I still get disconected when I sit in stations (space is fine).
Looking at the ping in the background, I notice it spikes to 2000ms for 1 second, after which I then get disconected after a long time out. I can still send data to the server, I'm just not getting any back.
Furthermore, I always get disconected at EXACTLY 19.51 game time. It's happend like 10 times now and I've only been keeping tabs for 3 weeks

No offense to you, but the problems that Eve faces are the same that everyone faces, and having had to build a cluster myself this year (major download store) there are many, many things that can go utterly wrong, not the least of which is the backbone and the hops from the client to the server.
I'm utterly amazed that the whole thing still operates as well as it does, but before you go having a pop at CCP, perhaps you want to help out in data collection and try using ping plotter to look for packet loss between yourself and the servers. I'm guessing that you pass through 3/4 companies networks before you hit CCP. Take some responsibility for your connection and diagnose rather than lazily point a finger.

South London. Do you know your contention ratio?
You're not that far from the server cluster; possibly four/five hops through Milton Keynes/Bletchley. Do not compare this to American's having the same problem (American DSL infrastructure is extremely bad and differs wildly in quality).
Without wanting to sound bad here, I'm seeing lot of different problems being characterised as the same one by people that see consistent disconnections. CCP will not diagnose everyones machine for them, so unfortunately you're going to have to get together information yourselves to figure out what the difference is.
'It's broke, fix it' is not going to garner any traction because there is NO information to work on.
The first thing you need to do is grab something along the lines of pingplotter and run it a couple of times when you have a disconnect. Find out what MTU your ISP uses, and check that windows is doing the same. Patch your routers. Find out your contention ratio. Try a concurrent test with something that streams (I use Di.fm to figure out when my client is going to drop. I currently have LCP issues in the exchange.)
Oh, and run spybot, adaware and everything else you can to check your machine for nasties. One piece of malware can cause so many outbound connections that incomings are swamped, which is generally what happens with machines that torrent.
I *really* hope this helps someone, but so far this thread is a clustermoan.

Clue 1. Sounds like keepalive. You're keeping the stream alive when you're in space, but not in stations. I'd start with the router at that point, then escalate to the ISP once I had something I could show them to beat the customer service apathy.

Clue 3. If you're affected by BST, then this could not apply, but you'll want to check for _anything_ else that happens around you, your computer and your link around that time. If you've noticed this pattern I trust you've been collecting data about the state of the link at that time? ----- This space left intentionally blank |

Why is it that people keeps saying "check your connection", "maybe its your router", "its properly your ISP thats the problem"!?
Sorry to be alittle upset, but when thousands of people have the same connection problems, whether they are in Europe, USA or Australia, its pretty obvious that it is not our ISP, and it is surely not our GFX drivers thats the problem, cause everyone i have talked to, only have problems with EVE. For my own part, i can play Counter-strike: Source for 2-3hours (surely more but havenŠt tested) without ANY problems at all, and i am still online when EVE drops me..
I dont want to flame anyone or trying to be rude, not at all, but your not helping telling me that, cause i know (with my limited knowledge in computers) that its totally wrong.
Any help is appreciated, no doubts about that, but telling me that my drivers are outdated, and i proberly have spyware, does not make my mood any better, nor does it fix my problem.
Anyway, back to topic.. Last night, i ran pingplotter for quite some time, and the first run, i got disconnected as usual, but afterwards, my main was on auto for like 23 jumps, and i didnŠt get disconnected. I have no idea if its pingplotter running that solved the problem, or the fact that autopilot was on, was the reason i didnŠt get disconnected, but it seems that if your inactive, or just have a low stream of data send/recieved from the server, the server drops you.
Could it be, that they have installed some new antivirus programme or something?

CCP Announced yesterday that their ISP would be replacing the failed switch thats causing me so much headache..... Well, the problem is even worse for me now at the same location. Did they even replace the switch?

Clue 1. Sounds like keepalive. You're keeping the stream alive when you're in space, but not in stations. I'd start with the router at that point, then escalate to the ISP once I had something I could show them to beat the customer service apathy.
Originally by: Koryvarn
Looking at the ping in the background, I notice it spikes to 2000ms for 1 second, after which I then get disconected after a long time out. I can still send data to the server, I'm just not getting any back.
Clue 2. How do you know that there's nothing coming back? Are you Nat'd?
Originally by: Koryvarn
Furthermore, I always get disconected at EXACTLY 19.51 game time. It's happend like 10 times now and I've only been keeping tabs for 3 weeks
Clue 3. If you're affected by BST, then this could not apply, but you'll want to check for _anything_ else that happens around you, your computer and your link around that time. If you've noticed this pattern I trust you've been collecting data about the state of the link at that time?
1. Yes, I am using a keepalive, it's the only way I can play EVE and stay sane. I monitor incoming / outgoing traffic on my PC and on my router, and after I get disconnected, I stay in game until I try to retrive data from the server. I can write a 1000 line monologue, and those in the channel can read it, but as SOON as I request something from the server - "connection lost".
I run a tightly firewalled setup, and nothing except EvE online and ventrillo, and possibly EvE Mon uses the net when I play. I have tried with both off, 1 of them off, all on, and the result is exactly the same. Furthermore, I stay connected to vent just fine when my eve client drops.
2. yes, I am NAT'd and as I said above, montioring incoming / outgoing traffic through the router is easy - loads of packets going out, but none coming in AFTER the ping spike.
3. The only thing I've noticed is the +2000ms ping increase when I drop. There is no packet loss, and in 99% of cases, my ping keeps on running even though I have been disconected. In an hours pinging of the server, I'd get maybe lowest 5, average 20 maximum 2300.
I'll try to run some tracerouters next time I'm playing and it happens, but since I can always connect instantly when I disconect, it's not a persistent state problem, so i'd be unlikely to catch it.
Furthermore, I dont think it can be blamed on my ISP or router when it happens when I vist my folks too, with different broadband speed, router, ISP, computer and wireless band.

I'm in a german corp and we get discos a LOT since the last patch - most time the whole corp is kicked out of the game. As we're living all over germany and (of course) running completely different hardware the problem won't have to do with our PCs/Routers/ISPs. With these informations given I knew where I would start searching for the problem - and for sure it wouldn't be my PC/Router/ISP/Whatever.

Give that a try. I think there are nicer ones out there.

Edited by: Lieutenant Wynd on 02/05/2007 04:00:53 The connection loss is at random, unrelated to ISP or internet backbone issues, it's a client/server problem that is related to Eve, no other games that I nor any of my 4 friends have ever had the problem on in the past several years except Eve. It's also continuous, the problem has existed since the day we each started playing Eve. We also each have different locations varying over 3000 miles, different ISP's, and hardware and all experience the exact same problem.
As for the exact reason, most likely it's the Eve client causing it since obviously the server isn't going down, however it's possible, although unlikely, that the cause is on the Eve server side experiencing errors due to the server's software. Any way you spin it, it certainly isn't hardware, it IS software related, and it IS specific to Eve.

I've been having this same issue ever since I switched from wired to wireless LAN. It's making it very difficult and frustrating to do any mining, which is mostly what I do with my time. It'd be nice if CCP would actually look into this and make some kind of comment. |

It might be your wireless. I have a wireless network from a linksys at home and it randomly kicks me off the wireless periodically. No rhyme or reason to it that I can see, I just get booted off the network and it takes a few seconds for the computer to re-establish the wireless connection to the linksys. The same symptoms are noticed on my wife's laptop as well. It happens when playing Eve, surfing the web, downloading files, or just sitting at the desktop. I have yet to determine if it's caused by some problem with the linksys or some wierd interference in my area. But, when it does happen, Eve gets disconnected, downloads break, web surfing wipes out, etc. Perhaps your problem is similar? I would recommend trying it with a wired connection to see if the problem goes away. I have zero problems playing Eve when using a wired connection to the linksys.

Actually, what you likely have going on is interfering frequencies from other wireless devices close by. Unless you live out of range of other people who may have wireless, I'd suggest modifying your wireless router's frequency, directions should be in the instruction manual, available online, or by calling the manufacturer.
KapnKaboom, I would suggest trying the same for you as well.

I've considered this possibility, and I'll probably give it a whirl, but I have my doubts that it's the problem, since I also play WoW and never have disconnection problems with it. I have 2 desktops and a laptop, all on wireless, and none of them have a problem with WoW, or interrupted downloads for that matter. EVE is the only app that has, so far, given me any grief.
Anyway, I'll fiddle with my router and report back on what success, if any, I have.

My connection issue started again after they did the unscheduled reboot of the server last week. I was getting disconnected every 15 minutes, lick clockwork.
After a lot of reading, I discovered, through viewing the system event logs, that my ip address license was expiring every 15 minutes. I installed the most recent Windows XP .net updates and I've been signed in for 2 hours now with no problems.

As an update, I've tested a few more apps and games, and EVE is still the only app that gives me any connection issues. It'd really be nice if someone from CCP would look into this, because it does seem to be an issue for some people. |

Hey folks. I've been tracking this thread for well, basically since I started playing EVE a few weeks ago, same issue as you all, same problems etc etc. Day one when this started happening I opened a petition with CCP. I have gotten great feed back from them all along the way, but nothing they have suggested has worked to cure this issue. Things I have tried to date: rolling back Video drivers, re-installing video drivers, re-installing DX9.0c, turning sound on and off, re-installing the game, forcing open all ports on my router, insuring all ports on router hard and virtual like are always on, never sleep, and won't drop me(youget the idea), and I've even done several things on my second computer where I run an additional account which seem sto have the same problems as the Main. Sometimes they drop together, sometimes it's random which will drop.
Now all of that being said, I too believe this is an issue with the software not with the hardware. Not mine, not yours, not thiers, but somewhere they did something program wise to change things and it's cause what I consider to be a widerspread issue than they are unwilling to or are able to admit or see. Something needs to happen and I have done everything I can absolutely possiblely do on my end to work this out. CCP needs to step in here and update us on what they are doing to try and fix the issue. I won't stop playing the game, but it's aggrivating as hell to not have a stable connection due to Server side software issues.

About the "Connection lost" issue.
I have the same thing happening to me. Although i managed to play last couple of hours without this to happen so it was better compaired to the morning that was keeping droping me out evry 10 minutes but just before some minutes i got the irritating message once again. I filed a petition in the morning but haven't heard back. Everything else works normaly except this game. I don't know what's wrong but i am certain it's not on my end. I have done my part of the deal. I paid your monthly fee and i paid it for a reason. Now it's your turn to honor our deal and fix this irritating problem. Before i regret....
