The sad thing is, he didn't learn anything from his experience, like to not accept gang invites from random people.

Edited by: SSgt Sniper on 05/01/2007 08:08:22 TBH, this topic has kind of been hijacked... so I'll try to reply to the original topic.
I'm full grown carebear, I feel no need to ever shoot at someone in this game. So tbh, not many of your ideas would effect my gameplay much at all. There is one or two lowsec systems I have ever gone into, they are abandoned, and you can go hours without seeing another person there. I've mined those places (mostly to refine for zydrine, makes my shipbuilding cheaper) and when someone else shows who I think for a half a second MIGHT be a threat, I simply pack it in and leave. This is the exent of my interest in lowsec, or 0.0, (and yes I have been there and done that, didn't like it very much), and I'm perfectly okay with it that way.
Basically I would be the 'proof' to the statement made by a few others that plenty of highsecers could care less what you offered in lowsec.
Before everyone screams go play WoW, I am not saying that pvp should not be allowed, or that 'consentual' pvp is the only way to go (although I do like that Highsec is more or less a consentual pvp only area for my money) I'm simply saying I don't do it and have no interest in it. Ask me in a year, I might change my mind. But I figured out about two days in that without a year+ of skills, you stand to be the bug 90% of the time in pvp, and the windshield a measely 10%. And being I'm not up for those odds, PVP quickly left my options list. Also, I hate elves, orcs, trolls, etc, and pretty much the entire premise of MMO's like EQ and WoW. (Plus I happen to like flying the Silver *****) So this game is where I'll stay, and I'll stay in Empire like the little carebear I am. ---------
Representing all the casual gamers happily living in Empire, that want NO PART of your 0.0 annoyances.

Congratulations fanboys, if you can't see it, this thread is just as childish and purile and the one on the WoW forums (no, I don't play Wow). imho, this goes to show one thing only: that people who like playing Eve like Eve and that people who like playing Wow like Wow. Only as far as I can see, people who play Eve are far more likely to stick their noses in the air and sneer at everybody else, even though Wow has been an order of magnitude more successful. Strange but true.

Only intelligent post in this thread so far.
Maybe CCP would do well to look at that thread on the WoW boards and have a think about the "new player experience" in EVE.

Yeah right.
The WoW person has a good point actually but you can't see beyond the "LOL WOW IS FOR NUBS" stereotype that's going on in this community of gentleman griefers. The point is that EVE really isn't an enjoyable game on the newbie level unless you stick to the very highsec and do missions until you have x amount of skillpoints (varies between races of course, yay imbalance) and then you can go out and kill stuff. I've done the newbie route exactly once and if I had to do it again I'd quit EVE tbh.

Hehe, it's just such a quotable thread. And the players not giving poor reviews after a total of a few hours of play are all quite reasonable as well. It's nice to see those who play other games not turning into rabid fan boys when a different game is being discussed. ---------------------

look the PVE element of eve has now improved once CCP get the exploration plexes and add some more mission variety with both regular agents and cosmos agents as well as belt rats and more static plexes.
Factional warefare should help
PVP has been enhanced the only real weak points are planetary interaction, lack of events , lack of diversity in content, lack of flexibility and randomness in the trade market and some of the crafting-production elements in terms of rigs, t2 invention and stuff like that

i am only guessing now but i would say avr age in eve is 25 while it is like 15 in wow. in most cases i just ignore the other players when i play wow due to that(yes i play wow now. kinda had enough of eve atm after 500days online since it went live )

ps. apparently the old lord zap posted in that thread, dont know if the real one or not. i think Sass, script and other atuk players play wow atm, but dont know about zap ==================

Thanks man.
It's funny how people in here complain at WoW players and use the fact that they're "kids" to explain their behaviour and the start of that EVE thread, while the "adults" here seem to have absolutely no problem with acting the same way towards the WoW player.
I smell hypocrisy.

As if a level 5 in WoW has any chance at all mining or gathering herbs in Stranglethorn vale without getting ganked. That's the thing these people fail to see. .4 sec is not a newbie zone! Why suddenly it is expected that you can thrive in an advanced area during your very first few hours of playing? In fact EVE is more tolerant in this than WoW bcause at least in EVE you have a chance to evade the gankers if you know what you are doing, even if you are still below 2m SP. In STV you are essentially dead the minute you step off the boat.
And the moment you do attempt to activate a gate leading to low sec, you do get a warning message indicating you need to get your stuff in order before attempting that part of the game. People should stop trying to think they are star players able to tackle anything they aren't physically locked out of and actually read the big neon warning signs.

Thanks man great link, never played WoW but I must say that in eve I do have days where I feel like
Quote: 1)Go to the drawer in the kitchen. 2)take out the receipt in which you bought EVE 3)Return it to GAME for part-xchange or even a refund. 4)give the guy behind the till a black eye for selling such sucky games 5)if you couldnt find the reciept than just smash the disc and carry out step 4.
But it has nothing whatsoever to do with mining :p

Bad analogy - STV is more like deep 0.0 in Eve. A lvl 5 would not even have the skill to harvest the herbs and would have an aggro radius of 5 miles for the mobs there.
That being said, on a PvP server an lvl 20 can have indeed similar problems as a new char in eve in lowsec. But (just like in eve) it can be avoided if you know what you are doing, unless it gets really extreme (like lvl 60s permacamping all zones).
Granted, it was a little over the top. My point was, if people can accept that there are zones in WoW that you need to have a minimum level for or require a group for before you can safely tackle them, why can't people accept that EVE has areas that require more skill (both as player as well as character) before you should attempt them?
And that is something a lot of WoW players are guilty of. They expect instant gratification. EVE tends to be too open ended and deep to provide that.

Survival in low-sec has absolutely nothing to do with skillpoints. You can enjoy the game right from the get go, and even be successful in PvP from day 1.

I define survivability by sovereignty: If I can go wherever I want to without being stopped by someone/something hostile then I can say that my survivability is high. That has nothing to do with staying alive, everyone of us (well, at least Amarr) can fit 7-8 stabs to battleship and fly through just about anything.
Oh and btw, I do transport zydrine through 0.0 in stabless haulers without scouts and occasionally also in shuttles. I don't need survivality in lowsec/0.0 to do that at all but I'm rather bored at the gimmicks EVE's gameplay model requires when you're not outright shooting someone.
