Just read that thread on the WoW forums... and you know, I was very impressed abot how defensive some people there are about Eve. Love it!
But Eve and WoW can probably easily both be played- I mean, I have only looked over shoulders of friends playing it and have no hands-on experience, but it fs the purrdyest fantasy MMORPG I have ever seen.
And sure, it's probably a grind, but aren't all MMORPG's games, in the end. No grinding for xp in the babeh we all love so much here, but grinding for LP? Sure. For ISK? Sure. For, let's call it browny points in the corp? Sure. But I don't see that as a big problem.
The good thing for Eve about WoW is, I think that WoW has an end game whereas Eve does not (that I can see). Which would mean that for WoW players there will come a time that they have archieved what they can archieve and then it's time to move on. But in Eve... what would be the true end game?... having a full complement of every T2 ship available, owning more ISK then you could possibly spend and leading an alliance that controls half of 0.0 space? (well, maybe the CEO's of Evolution and Reikoku might be able to answet that one ) |

There is a reason for that. The average person is a braindead coward. They don't like games where the combat involves more than spamming frostbolt untill the kobold dies, then repeating that over and over untill the kobold is onyxia. They are intimidated by big words like transversal velocity.
And why shouldn't they? They're both bloody games after all. Compare it to Single-Player games because you obviously put Online gamers all in one camp: If I enjoy playing Master of Orion and my brother enjoys playing Diablo 2, that does not make me more intelligent or better than him in any way. Sure, the WoW player maybe chose for a game where there is set goal (Levelling), risk is lower than in EVE, and so on, but I ask again, why not? Not everybody likes the risks of EVE, and maybe it's time you consider that instead of calling the WoW player a coward.
Don't go over to name-calling and instead learn that not everybody enjoys the same kind of game we do. Oh and while you're at it do enlighten me on why this should be a bad thing. I personally don't see why it should be. David Caldera |

Great attitude. Jump in game, don't follow the tutorial an pretend to "win".
And I thought this game has far less of a manual than it really needs. It needs a fracking textbook, a two-semester 30-lecture course with proper exams wouldn't hurt some people either.
Oh wait, manuals are for people who can read, this guy obviously isn't among this exalted minority. :)
Most of the things you need to know in EVE, you can't put in any manual...
...the only things I'd agree with the OP in that WoW forum thread is that mining is horribly boring and the tutorial is annoying. Dunno why he thought he had to go all the way through it, though; as soon as I'd got the interface basics down I told that nagging bish to hush it and went ratting in my IBIS OF DOOM.
Are the first couple of weeks supposed to be frustrating? I dunno, I thought they were a blast. You get a new skill level every few minutes, you're exploring a HUGE map, every 3 days or so you realise that this damb game is an order of magnitude more complex than you realise - man, I still remember the moment when I suddenly understood that the market was all players! - then the even now unmatched joy off getting my first Kestrel. My God, the POWER!
And jeez, that was just the first week. I had another 7 days of free play...
The bad thing about EVE is that no-one cares about you. The great thing about EVE is that no-one cares about you.

General internet speed & quality is far far better now than 5 years ago, so it certainly had no negative effect.
