Oh and btw, I do transport zydrine through 0.0 in stabless haulers without scouts and occasionally also in shuttles. I don't need survivality in lowsec/0.0 to do that at all but I'm rather bored at the gimmicks EVE's gameplay model requires when you're not outright shooting someone.
You will not be able to solo a battleship on your first day (unless it's AFK). You are correct about a lowbie being limited in his/her options (I take it that is what you mean in your second post). I am talking about thriving in low-sec though. I am talking about making a living from day 1 that is both fun and rewarding. This does not take a lot of skillpoints. It does take a lot of skill.
I'm not sure why you are telling me you haul stuff through 0.0. Good on ya, I guess. I am merely pointing out a factual error in your first post where you stated that you need x amount of skillpoints in order to have fun and pvp.

Well as funny as it might be, I seen 'wow' in the link.
So why was this important to the Eve-Online community?

EVE is a cold world baby, and thats the way we like it!!
lol, i love it. shame that being a noob they made several mistakes - one they went into lowsec thinking it was safe, two they trusted pirates who'd just killed them, three they tough a rookie ship could handle combat with... well something. we don't need players who aren't going to think. what they did was like making a WoW character and going straight into the capital city of the enemy faction. it's just plain dumb, and they should have expected the result.
i played WoW, and got bored, i came here much as they did for a break... that was at the beginning of summer, and i'm not going back to WoW in the forseeable future. funny that. you know why? because i listended to the shiny warnings saying "if you do this you'll get owned" and i went through the tutorial, so i understood how things work. i read the forums, and got involved.
sounds to me like this player simply charged headlong expecting this game to be like WoW.
bye, bye, mister ignorant 13 year old. come back when you're willing to think before you act. ========================================== Iy |

See I don't think the EVE community is anti-WoW so much as we're anti-"WoW players who come on the forums after being blown up in low-sec to tell the devs to change the game because clearly there's no chance they perhaps should have read that dialog box or instead asked a polite question which would have been answer clearly in the appropriate forum section".

Both Eve and WoW are nice games. Played both stayed with Eve cause WoW endgame wasnt appealing. The big difference and offence factor on Eve-community side is that even if both games get those 8-year-olds WoW cathers for them (and makes tons of cash in the process) while Eve just lets em kiss the basement.
It's good as it is and if it were different and Eve would be a game domianted by kids I might be playing wow instead.
Just like electronic-charges adults vs kids polarize so they allways sit at oposing ends of a game-genre :).

Space is vast, cold and unforgiving. WoW is filled with unicorns and carebears.
Pick the game which suits your playstyle. ..and for that matter don't assume you've mastered anything after trying it for two days. It just 'might' be that your approach to this was bound to fail.

just incase they get a linky I shall try be nice..
Dear wow players, this is not easy peasy to get into.... it takes a loooooo00oong time to know even just one part of the game or race of ships.. its hard work to get your first battle ship solo but there are many good young and old alliances in need of fresh meet who will train u up. When u loose a ship it will hurt you (unless u is a nutter or ur very well off) and u might have to spend ages just getting back to the space you where flying in, u might even get ganked trying to get back there. You can learn alot in safe space but you wont find much action in pvp sence.
Take the opening scene in star wars (return of the sith) u have a massive fleet battle going on, theres a reason behind all the ships there. If u mange to see a big fleet fight in eve of 200 to 400 peeps ull see its not too far off it. How did wars come about in star wars and eve... very very similer, the strugle to control space the galaxy and trading routes.
When u take your ship into battle it will have its place/ orders in fleet, u have a purpose and the losses on both sides will meen alot, that makes winning one of those battles an apreciated thing. I like to fly small stuff like a tie fighter and u are flying right up to the enemy ships dropping a bubble to stop them from warping out, the exsperiance of bombing an enemy fleet esp when all the suport ships are trying to kill you is amazing. like wise for the slower more powerful ships a team work of cordination is need to kill primarys watch for jamming ships and incoming tacklers is a megga buzz, one slip up and months worth of work is reduced to dust and frozen meet. Even a lost battle is enjoyable and the rewards from winning a large fleet battle can change alot for the outcome of 0.0 space. These are big moments in eve but the prosses of getting to those points are also very good fun, small skirmishes big mining opps (yuk for some :) blocking trading routes. Its massive and even the polatics and spy networks are a league of there own (though also can get smacky smacky). Its very unique and totally amazing if u like the idear of space games.
my adivce is find your feet then join a good pvp alliance or corp depending on what kind of thing tickles your unicorn.
I went down the honerable alliance always defedning and eventually got board of pollatics ( I dont see much difference between an alliance killing of people to claim space and a pirate, only that pirates shout yarghh and proberly have more fun) and joined a pirate corp whith some old friends, mainly FC's ( fleet comanders ) and now have had the most amazing time! We make a new home and move on when we want. Life is not easy we face many many people for the numbers we run, the buzz of the game makes us do crazy things and the rewards are far greater then any other game I have played (played aloot of games). It most certainly is not a game for everyone but for those that like it has become quite special.
I do not think u will gain much knowledge about eve from a small squeeker whos played the game for less then 6 months.
love and kisses as always

Yeah.. pure griefing is bad advertisement for EvE? Atleast, if you've got brains enough, you can learn from that experience.
You know what you can learn from being CorpseCamped in WoW? That's right, roll a Rogue and vanish+sprint away from your CCers. You know how often CCing has been bashed on official WoW forums? That's right, all the time. Has WoW lost any potential subscribers due to whining over griefing? If it has, it's not showing on their numbers. You know why? Because, even on the WoW forums, people generaly don't pay attention to whiners. Nobody likes whiners, just ask the girls.
You didn't even read the replies there did you? Most of them seem pretty pro-EvE to me.
In the words of Thokk of Aggramar EVE is like the "Fisherman's Friend" of MMOs.
If it's too hard, you are too weak.

I have nothing against WoW players... well, nothing relating to their playing WoW. I DO, however, like to mock people for being morons. And I see them in both communities. I'll defend EVE from people falsely accusing it of being t3h sux l0l, and mock their game in retaliation (which, for WoW, is mighty easy), but never bash someone just for the sake of playing WoW.
Now, if they're children, that's entirely different, since I ******* hate children on my Internet. Especially if mommy and daddy somehow got them a mic... *rambles incoherently as he goes back to work* ----------------------------

WoW brought MMOs to the masses. How can that be a bad thing. The person on the WoW euro forums may not be ready for Eve yet, but in a year or 2 he may. That means more people playing, not just Eve, but all MMOs. That means that many more MMOs are going to be developed, and the more that are developed, the more diverse they will be. I fail to see the downside.

What do you get here when someone posts a similar uninformed topic, but about wow?
WoW has 7.5 million subscribers. CCP has 200k(I think, could be closer to 300 now).
Go to any serious mmo gamers' forum or website, and see who gets more respect, CCP or Blizzard. Let me give you a hint: It isn't the people making 1 billion a year in revenue.
There's a reason for that.
There is a reason for that. The average person is a braindead coward. They don't like games where the combat involves more than spamming frostbolt untill the kobold dies, then repeating that over and over untill the kobold is onyxia. They are intimidated by big words like transversal velocity. They want uber handed to them on a +5 plate and fear the chance of their mistakes having consequences. Just to put this into perspective here is a list of other things the majority of people thought were good ideas: Slavery, george bush, burning "witches", medical leeches, bellbottoms, jerry springer and prohibition. I take playing unpopular games as a sign that i have good taste. If the majority would like to debate it they can feel free to do so after they figure out the mind boggling "no pickles" riddle and finaly give me my bigmac like i ordered it.

Originally by: Keras when you finnaly do go out and try stuff for the first time, you realise the first fatal flaw of EVE. absolutely no flying control of your ship! thats right, all you do is eighter set the autopilot or doubleclick in space. you cannot turn your ship, rotate it, or make complex flying meuveours(ala star wars type space fighting) all you do is click the autopilot or you doubleclick into space, and you ship automatically goes there with full thrust(making the point of speed pointless since youre always going with maximum thrust)

First... you aren't flying Fighter planes in EVE. You're piloting Naval ships.
Speed pointless because you go everywhere at full thrust? Well, obviously (to anyone who's actually played EVE...) you can change your speed. Secondly, how is going 7,000 meters/second and going 125 meters/second not a difference? Yes, both ships are going at 100% speed. One's still a hell of a lot faster.
Originally by: Keras there is no dodging the hits, since youre locked on and the only modifier if you hit/get hit is the range and perhaps some modules you can install.

Ok. Please tell those Crows to stop making me miss, as I am locked on and cannot possibly be missing them. Must be a bug.
Originally by: Keras but the real deal is when you realise the first few skills only take 1-2 hours to learn.while the advanced ones take up to a day or more.so whats the point of sleeping over it when i wake up i still has 7 hours to go.LAME!
As opposed to killing the same monster or running the same instance over and over and over to get a level. Ok.
Originally by: Keras the skills themselves really dont give you much stuff eighter.most give you some kind of uselss buff like +5% ship agility which is dumb.but most are there because you need them to upgrade you ship.for instance you cannot put shields on without knowledge about electronics.so basically its just prolonguing your playtime so you can play more while not really getting much out of it.
Err... Just because a skill doesn't let you shoot a fireball doesn't mean it's useless. It makes your ship more effective, and with all the skills taken into account, makes you far more effective.
This kind of thing makes me sad, and at the same time, glad that EVE's steep learning curve scares these people away.
And to the person who said EVE needs new blood... yes, it does. Does it need that? No, no it doesn't. Making EVE into easymode-online may very well get new customers. However, it also chases away the old ones and turns EVE into a game that peaks early on then slowly dies. Like every other MMO that isn't EVE. EVE has been steadily growing since the start, and isn't showing any signs of decline. This is because EVE isn't easymode-online, and I hope CCPrealizes this and doesn't change EVE.

I play Eve and Wow, WoW since beta Eve for about a year now. I love both for different reasons but there are so many idiots in WoW it isn't funny. The best thing to come out of WoW is the Illegal Danish/Zinwrath movies (look em up on YouTube they are pretty good actually).
That being said, my first day in Eve consisted of me flying to an asteroid belt, seeing this canister and opening it to look inside. I got blown up but just chalked it up to lesson learned.
Both games have their share of pond scum but you get that anywhere you go.

Shows how much you know about wow. PvE mechanics are actually far more complex than in eve.
PvP..depends. Due to the battleground mechanics PvP is from the logistic side a lot simpler, but from tactics it can get fairly complex if you play vs good players. A lot of it is vs badly equipped/skills players skillless ganking, but so is your average 20 person gatecamp vs all but an equal/stronger counterforce.
I quit WoW in the end due to the way to high grind factor in endgame PvE and went back to EvE, but my fondest memories of WoW are from the battlegrounds.
