So, after wading through 10 pages of "OMG we PWN J00!!!" posts, I have yet to see someone say something along these lines, and I just want to drive something home quick:
The original poster (Algey) stated that their enemies LIED??!? about what/where/how (cross out unneeded field) they were going to attack?
Now... lets think about this, isnt one of the primary tactics used in military operations one of DECEPTION?
Or do we all before we decide to attack a POS, eve-mail our prospective targets something like this:
Dear Sirs/Madams,
On the 12th day of August at exactly 17:00 eve-time, we will attack your POS in PWN-JU system, planet IV, moon 2. We will bring the following ships: blah blah and be fitted with these mods: blah blah rabble blah.
Please make sure you keep the POS low on stront so i dont have to wait all day.
Thanks
Your attackers...
Now, who else would totally disregard a mail like this? I know I would. So why do we moan when they dont do what they say they were gonna do. Remember, they're HOSTILES, they dont have ANY reason to tell you anything truthful, and in fact id have less respect for them if they did cos it would mean that the Ego is bigger than the brain.
just an observation, not me showing any loyalties, just the facts.

Doesn't actually matter though, does it? Can't recall trust demanding 200 bill ISK for the station.
But in the end, there is of course no way to enforce such a deal without big guns and pew pew. D2 took the outpost with fleets of warships, and they don't have to provide any justification to anyone if they don't feel like it. The old mantra is worth repeating, though: 'In EVE, ISK is fleeting but rep is eternal.' -----

I haven't been playing long but for a little while now I've been living both in EC and in Lonetrek. These are my own personal observations and opinions.
D2 needed to take EC. EC has been completely lawless for the entire time I've been there. The gate to Torrinos was always camped by some corp or alliance and it always changed regularly. Anyone that wanted to could just show up and take the gate over and decide for themselves who flew in and who didn't.
Now imagine that you are D2 and you have this HUGE hole right at the edge of empire into the north. How would this make you feel?
I was in Cassini when the assault started. It started with just a handful of ships taking over the gate to Torrinos. Later on the blob showed up and started taking out POS's. I tried to undock so I could fraps the titan but they knew what they were doing and kept the system locked down. The whole time they were there only one person talked smack and the rest of D2 chastized them for it. There was just one person talking constant smack and it was some neutral that was ****ed that their free looting days were over. We ended up just having normal conversation while everything went on. What else are you gonna do?
It's my opinion that D2 just got tired of having a huge messy hole to empire and wanted it cleaned up and secured. ISS couldn't secure it. My corp was working on getting enough people to clear out the random gatecamps and we were close, but we couldn't do it alone and with most of ISS in the south, we weren't going to get any help from them doing it either. EC really was a mess, but it was a fun mess.
The goal of ISS is to make 0.0 space accessible to anyone. It's really not that hard to see that maybe some alliances do not want the pathways to their space open to any noob that can fly a frigate, let alone an experienced pilot that wants to drop cyno's on someones doorstep. I see this as a security issue and nothing more. I don't think D2 jumped on any bandwagon, they just took advantage of an opportunity to clean up a very important system that needed cleaning up.
The second that D2 announced war we knew exactly what was happening and some of us actually wondered why it took them so long to do it. I personally didn't feel that it was in any way related to wanting to join an ISS gang bang, but simply being a matter of smart logistics. Maybe they did want to join in on a gang bang. I don't know but I didn't get that impression. Gang bangs usually involve a lot of smack in local and I just didn't see it.
I really do wish we could have worked out some kind of deal to stay, but whoever owns the space makes the rules. EC has been fun and I learned a LOT about staying alive there since it has been one of the most hostile systems. At any given day you could open a map and show ship deaths in the options and EC would have been the biggest bright spot of any gateway system to 0.0.
Congrats to D2 for being effective, efficient, and professional about their takeover of EC. Yeah it sucks to have your ass kicked, but you gotta admire someone that can do it with respect.

Yeah you guys pretend to be the good guys too. In reality you're at exactly the same level as D2, RA and everybody else. Which is, of course, why you just NAP'd with LV - because now every major alliance that's left post ASCN refuses to put up with the charade.

If that's true then it seems to me the right reaction to the: 'We hug / form mutual defense pacts etc. with 2/3 of the EVE universe' - mentality of some other parties currently, that have maybe still the goal currently to finish LV , but gang-bang BoB afterwards.
That's at least how all this nap'ing across north, east and south feels. And I hope they (LV/BoB/whoever) kick you in the balls for it. Sorry for seeming bitter, maybe I am a bit. Hehe.
( Sad enough I'm / we are currently not in the position to do anything about it. I'd prefer to be still on the frontline and shoot at goons etc. instead of hanging around, where I am now. Only way for me would be to leave corp and alliance and join another one who is still strong and active in that conflict. )

You've done ISS a huge favour.
That system has been like a bastard child ever since BoB gave it to them, and D2 didn't want it back originally (preferring to be paid for it instead).
Congratulations D2, you are now the proud owners of one utterly unprofitable and dreadfully situated Gallente outpost one jump from a 0.5 system. Impressive.

ISS's goals have always been much more about creating commerce in 0.0 and making an effort to open up 0.0 space by a NRDS policy. This of course is not a goal much of EVE cares about, especially all of you out there who operate on a NBSI policy. We in TGRADs, while we had the pleasure to live in EC and operate ISS Cassini, had a mission that was very similar, which is to introduce newer players to 0.0 space. In our short time there, we learned EC is really the armpit of EVE...and now we see if D2 can do anything with EC, or if it is going to remain the Mos Isley Spaceport of EVE. Enjoy the constant hunting by TRI, Burn Eden, etc., maybe you'll get more use out of EC than we did, but I doubt it.
Anyways, I personally have no hatred for D2's surprise attack on us. TBH, it was a brilliant move strategically, at least in the short term, and allowed them to basically take a outpost without opposition. EVE only respects strength, and as such, I respect the move they made. Whether this move benefits D2 in the long run, only time will tell.

We had a good run in EC, and while I'm sorry to see it end, that's the way things go in Eve. Definitely learned a lot while there -- solo ninja mining crokite in EC in a retriever is kind of a rush, in it's own way, especially when the hostile count in local was well into double digits. I sometimes felt like one of those gazelles that taunts the lions. I'm proud of the fact that I never got popped in a retriever (though goldenboy got me in an Osprey I think).
Came to respect TRI a lot, fun guys. We sure saw a lot of them. Crazies will fight anyone. :) Never saw D2 much, and so was surprised they are so interested in EC now. In fact, I think I was the first casualty in D2's war on ISS - they were still blue on my over-view when they popped me this weekend. I feel like the first soldier killed in WW2. (Some Polish cavalryman?) Oh well.
Anyway, looks like our run in EC is over. Was fun while it lasted -- mostly.

Thanks for the props Crozon! I think we're a pretty classy mature group too, if I do say so myself. But I know many TGRADs aren't happy, as they have lost billions of isk worth of assets in one fell swoop...and the fact that D2 probably could have just received EC/Cassini if they asked for it diplomatically makes it hurt all the more. But, as you point out, we do realize it is just a game. And the EVE political landscape is always in motion. Today's top-dog is just as likely to be in tomorrow's dustbin of history.
TGRADs will survive and come out the stronger for this, I am sure, because the people in this corp have the right perspective and maturity to weather this storm. And by all means, do look us up if you are interested...contact Manas or Ronan Teisdari. Fly safe!

Huh? If we kept out the "riff-raff", how is that making 0.0 space accessible to everyone? Contradiction much? That "riff-raff" IS everyone and were the customers that we were there to serve.
Go ahead and laugh. At least we are attempting something very unique, difficult to do in this game, and different than almost any other corp or alliance. Go ahead and enjoy your perma bubblecamps, NBSI policy, and PvP orientation. I'm am sure at the end of the day you can say that you did something that nobody else has been able to do in EVE.

Well, IAC doesn't operate an NBSI policy and we promote free space like you. We do however police it (best we can) and aren't afraid to call out our enemies.
For the general 0.0 EVE pilot, IAC controlled stations make no difference whatsoever.
Sadly for your shareholders, your leadership's poor management cost them dearly :( .... and this continued ignorance of their concerns and the fact that you're all harping on that losing stations 'won't hurt ISS' is just like a slap in the face for the people that REALLY own them.
