Long story short,
I'm on a mission, a mission of peace and ...
I said short story, so, I've got a friend who likes games such as EVE but for some reason he doesnt want to at least try this.
I want to convince him to give it a shot (i do think he will like it) but my usual attempts have failed so far!
Look at the title, read it and tell me, why should he play eve online? Maybe with your help ill manage to "recruit" him to the dark side. |

Plain and simple, eve is a social game.
It is a game that you can just sit down, and do stuff with friends in game or ones you know in real life. It's pace is set by you, it's victories are set by you. So why play eve? Cause you can play it your way. It is a social game.
Eve has it's flaws, but with the sheer level of changing and updates, it is getting very good and for the better. The tough part is integrating the new play with old veterans and opening it up more to having a stream of new players entering the fold.

I guess if you fit his ship stay at high sec you tank and he do dps i think he will like it. Some friends found that to. The got bored pretty fast in eve. So i`m alone again. I guess eve is not for every one most people want 24/7 adrenaline rush but i do not.
If he wants trill than this game is not his cup of tea. He wants a relaxes and very deep game play with allot of uhm "surprises" than this is the game. And he needs to love space or this will just not cut it.
A few answer and question will help to. My wife got she hates the game but she loves the marketing -_-" so yeah, you got my drift there? Now she do all the transaction (contracts and that kind of stuff) will i do the pve lp farmings and other stuff. |

Your friend should play EVE because it's the most cutthroat, anarchistic political power play roller coaster out there! EVE favours the smart, the sneaky, the organised and the charismatic. It gives us a free universe to be who we want to be and the opportunity to learn about how we respond to the actions of others in a lawless society.
Eve teaches us about how humans respond in a dystopia where we all are invincible and primal desires such as greed and power are the aspirations of the masses, achieved through competing, forming uneasy alliances, subterfuge and economics.
Eve is an MMO unlike any other: a universe where the fittest survive and flourish. The meek must overcome their inhibitions to become strong, or forever be consigned to a life of servitude or exile.

does ur friend know how frakin awesome it is when scouts are reporting intel over comms and u and ur compadres co-ordinate and organise a gang on a ship or another gang.
such a satisfying pop when they go down. ice cream on top if u get the pod.
does ur friend know the feeling of ur heart beat becoming an audible sound in ur ears as u punch a plex gate wondering how ur target is fit.
does ur friend know how awesome it is when the spoils of ur pvp fund more pvp?
does ur friend know the awesomeness of being hunted but being too on the ball for ur enemy to catch u.
does ur friend know how awesome it is when u land a massive bump on a target so it cant get back to gate or dock?
there is so much to learn and do in eve. i cant recommend the game enough.
yesterday i learned that u can redeem items from in game without having to quit out to the log in screen. Little tidbits of info like this i come across frequently.
as i said before so much to learn and do.
/taken from one of my previous posts. i know. but seems to fit here well so.

I think a lot of players still prefer a character rather than just a ship (which doesn't even stay constant), I generally prefer melee weapons in hand. Although you could say the ships are the armor, but the combat is all range, either short or long.
Although, I do tend to prefer sandbox type games, but these seem to be limited. Problem with a lot of MMO's (from my perspective) is they're going more and more theme park, so getting less attractive. |

Anyone can win this game on day one of playing. I've been playing since 2008, just got my first account ban last weekend, so I made a brand new alt to start over. I trained just a few skills to do some trading to make some isk and a few skills to gank some ships. In my first few hours of playing I made over 100mil isk, which I think is good, and ganked over 100mil worth. I'm not saying everyone should be as aggressive playing, but it's pretty easy to be. So that's why you should play eve. It's easy to win and fun.

Forum suspensions and bans are issued when a user grossly violates the forum rules. While they are rarely issued, they are applied with the communityGÇÖs best interests in mind. Attempts to bypass a suspension or ban via the use of alternate accounts will result in additional action, and in some instances may result in the permanent revocation of forum posting privileges across all accounts. Similarly, having another forum user post on your behalf if you are unable to do so may result in an extension of your suspension or ban, as well as the user who does so also receiving similar reprimand regardless of their warning history.
I have deleted a post for the above reason. Ban evasion is a serious violation of the EULA and TOS.

Unfortunately, EVE has a well-earned reputation as a place where only unscrupulous gankers have a hope to succeed, and no one is eager to run in here and be victimized by people better equipped with nothing better to do than to brutalize and rob them for lulz. That's the nature of "enlightened self interest" or what gankers like to call "risk aversity" (ROFL, that still slays me, risk aversity, someone's brain was on overtime to dream that one up.)
Anyway. The other two complaints are it's believed to be a "spreadsheet" game, which is really few people's idea of fun, and to crown the cupcake, it's "boring." I've heard all three of these, however, where the last two used to be the only reasons, now the first one has taken a tremendous lead - I'm not paying to be someone else's whipping boy.
CCP seems to be fine with its income, so it's doubtful their leaning toward a thin minority's LOUD screeching about so-called PvP (but actually ganking) will ever be changed. Therefore the set of reasons "most" people avoid this game will remain the same. Eventually, however, the fact it's software is antiquated is going to pick up steam - pardon the pun.
This isn't so difficult to understand, is it - I know the gankers have it in their interest to claim it IS, but we all (being HONEST about it) know better.
May the spew begin.

Buy 20 frigates. Fit all 20. Sub another account. Tell your friend to log in. Give him 10 of your ships. Undock and duel each other for a while. At least this way, you can get him straight at the action.
And if the action isn't what he's most interested in, then figure out what he would enjoy out of the game, and guide him through that instead.
Or you can lure him in with a plan. Tell him what you'd like to do in game with him. A heist? Lead battles? Corner the market? Plant him as a long-term spy? Make a plan, with him in it, and tell him how it could go down.
Give him some material to read or watch to get him interested, like this https://www.themittani.com/features/largest-virtual-battle-ever?nopaging=1
or this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3O56g8KC6CM
or this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdfFnTt2UT0
There's a lot of material out there to amp people up. If he declines when presented all this sort of thing, then that's that. |

Look at the title, read it and tell me, why should he play eve online? Maybe with your help ill manage to "recruit" him to the dark side.
The Plan to Recruit Friends
Step 1: Create a Corp for you and your friend(s) in High-Sec, or invite them to a Corp you are already in. When they sign into the game for the free trial, invite them to your Corp. You will be able to show them the basic ropes of Eve Online in High-Sec, and help them get on their own two feet. There are many Corps in EVE built around helping newcomers get on their feet, and interacting with the Corps members will make them more at ease in the Eve Universe.
Step 2: Advise them to run the Career Agent Missions first. They will be able to familiarize themselves with the basic mechanics of Eve Online, and help them decide how they want to play the game of Eve Online.
Step 3: Familiarize them with the various skills of EVE Online. It can be too easy to train skills that you may no longer use in the distant future, so help them organize a skill plan that fits what they want to do in EVE Online.
Step 4: Run Missions together until they can start flying on their own. Missions will help give them on-hands experience, build up ISK, and give them an idea of how battles in Eve work and the skills required to fight effectively. That is pretty much the purpose of missions in High-Sec outside of money-making: familiarizing characters with the skills required to maximize their efficiency in the field they want to participate in.
That is my advice, at the very least. The rest will all depend on whether or not they want to continue playing by the time their trial period starts to run out. I am a full-time fighter and part-time miner, personally, so I wouldn't know what to suggest (yet) if they want to go into business and become a tycoon in the Eve market.
Tell your friend that EVE Online is a social game, where the key to success is as much about working with other people as it is working on your own. As long as you are there supporting them in their earliest days and later on, I do believe you can get your friend to like the game.

So ummm, it turns out that the only reason he is not willing to try eve (YET) is because he is afraid!!
Afraid that he might like the game and that he might get sort of like, addicted to it and then cant stop playing it (apprently this has happened before, lose all self control and just play the game, screw life ) ...
Well, i think i hit a brick wall with this. |

To be honest, the latter is a very valid point. Eve's pacing really makes it easy to spend long periods of time doing absolutely nothing. In an old corp I ran, we could spend hours just mining. Without the hard set start and end pointls, you just keep going until "look at the time!" I can really respect a person that can acknowledge this. Perhaps is best then.

Well, that is an understandable fear.
One way to help him escape this fear is to place a set goal for every time he goes to play the game, or a standard amount of time to play the game. He should make sure he adheres to that time, and he should be all set to go, adjusting what he does in that amount of time as his character's skills grow.
A while back, when I wasn't too busy, I made it my goal to accumulate close to 100 million ISK per day (since I fly in Null-Sec and run Anomalies, that basically amounts to three Havens for 40 minutes each on average). Nowadays I just run one Haven per day and then salvage the wrecks (I'm storing up for a Citadel ), after which I am finished playing for the day. My goal back then was to get enough ISK to buy PLEX to extend my play-time beyond my initial subscription (and to multi-train my one alt).
Of course, you need a good enough ship with the proper bonuses and skills trained to manage that sort of pay out in that time-frame (much less fly a Haven), and I'm still training a skill set to allow me to optimize my Haven running and make them go even faster.
As Markus Reese said, it is easy to lose track of time in the rabbit hole of the EVE Wonderland, so the best advice to give him would be to set himself a set amount of time to play the game per day (or every other day) and a set goal of what to achieve in that time frame. An hour at minimum and two hours at maximum per day should do it.

Timer alarm is a good one as well. Nice thing is you really can just log off anywhere. Decide a max time, log in, start timer, it goes, time to finish up and call it. Well, you know your friend better than we do, so either way, best of luck
