Yep, same here. Starts with

and ends with
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x6400027c in 32-bit code (0x6400027c). ....
and a register dump.

Same problem here.
Changing Texture Quality to Low however makes gameplay possible,
Alt-Tabbing til Linux makes the game crash though (Not a problem prior to the December Release).

I've played around with this and the LogServer. Found an exception about Invalid Arguments, which originated with DirectX. Switching to DirectX 9 (which can be done from launcher settings) fixed the problem. |

I tried installing the wine-development package from apt-get and to run Eve like usual but replacing wine with wine-development in the command line.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*msvcrt,*msvcr100,*msvcr80=b,n" wine "/home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/CCP/EVE/bin/ExeFile.exe"
was the command line I was using successfully for 2 years. Replacing wine with wine-development in that command allowed me to test out wine-1.7.29 which is newer than the one I have, but the issue still remains.
I have received reports about people using wine 1.8rc3 and having no problem at all with today's patch, but I can't verify it just yet.
There is no newer pre-packaged wine for my distribution (Debian 8.2) so trying out wine1.8rc3 will probably require fresh compilation at least for me. If you have a more bleeding edge distribution you might be able to have that with the wine-development package already.
Edit: I am trying a newer wine-development version from Debian backports repositories, will report soon.
TL:DR - Upgrading wine to at least 1.7.52 fixes the issue for me, 1.7.22 was not enough.
Commands I ran were
sudo apt-get install wine-development sudo apt-get install -t jessie-backports wine-development
Launching client with
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*msvcrt,*msvcr100,*msvcr80=b,n" wine-development "/home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/CCP/EVE/bin/ExeFile.exe"
The above-mentioned commands may or may not apply to your specific distribution and I didn't test Eve extensively yet although I can now login and not crash. |

Nope, I have both wine and wine-development installed alongside each other. They also have separate configuration files which can be accessed by typing in terminal either
winecfg
or
winecfg-development
Wine 1.6 and Wine 1.7 are co-existing in my system, if you use 'wine' in your commands it will launch the 1.6 one, if you use wine-development it will launch the 1.7 (or more recent one).
The steps I listed works only for Debian 8 version, other distributions may have different ways of dealing with things or may have wine >1.7.52 already installed by default or under another package name which is not wine-development, but the concept still holds.

Eve is not in the Ubuntu repository at all, so I guess that means it's even worse than unstable - yet you use it. How come?
Besides - there's a reason why Eve is not marketed for Linux as well. It's not for linux. I mean - if you feel you need to go because you haven't been able to login for a few hours - bye bye, I guess.
But cut them some slack. Show me another Publisher that cares about it's linux community as much without even having a Linux title.
Apart from that: Grow some balls - it's not like in-development Wine will fry your system. Wine-dev releases have been rather stable for years. |

Tbh I have found the later 'unstable' versions of a lot of things to be very, very stable. Running arch has been the smoothest linux experience I have had and it involves a lot of 'unstable' versions. Any way we are getting off track. |

Did eve 100% use your GPU before? I'm pretty certain that as it's a mobile GPU you'd need to use bumblebee to use the card. I could be wrong though.

Works fine for me with wine-32bit-1.7.46-454.1.x86_64 under openSuSE 13.2 on a dell M4800 with an Nvidia Card. So far I only tested windowed mode with low details, but that is what I normally use anyways. |

Hi,
Can you do an lspci | grep VGA and post your card version please? |

Confirmed solution mentioned above. Updated Ubuntu with the WINE ppa and latest 1.7.55 The new Wine downloads and installs Mono and Gecko. My command line script to run the EVE evefile.exe now fails for some odd reason I haven't investigated.
Happily, the EVE Launcher is no longer buggy and you can launch Wine from there reliably: this was very haphazard on previous versions.
And Captain's Quarters.... now displays your character! .... and then hangs up completely.

Spoke too soon. There doesn't seem to be any way of getting out of Captain's Quarters once you crash in it.
Clearing your game cache in the Launcher causes the game to fail shortly after opening. The repair tool results in the following error in a log file:

requests.exceptions.SSLError: [Errno 1] _ssl.c:504: error:14090086:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed

At this point, I'm looking at a complete reinstall to hope that it magically fixes something.

I'll add my voice to the chorus. Pick you're poison about how you want to do this. But upgrading the version of WINE you use seems to be the solution to this issue. Personally used PlayOnLinux this time, with the help of WINE version 1.7.46 (not the latest, but it WAS the current default), and...problem solved. |

A complete reinstall from scratch leads me back to a exefile.exe crash from the Launcher. This is a freshly downloaded copy on a new disk area, It should be perfect. Near as I can tell, this is the error from the logger:
11622015.12.09 02:19:06:973Couldn't open cached file - C:\users\Public\Application Data\CCP\EVE\SharedCache\ResFiles/0b/0b577d4609680827_2027ad5388f3c39b6c9c1b1c95ac6880
Ran repair tool once more. Launcher now re-downloads updates. Realized that that it has reverted back to DX11 in the settings so changed that back to DX9. Noted that the downloading updates progress info line has some obvious programming errors as to progress. Finally, back in business.
But really, CCP, why so difficult? |

It works like this: a.) install playonlinux b.) copy&paste the posted scipt into a text file https://www.playonlinux.com/en/app-1630-EVE_online.html c.) want to change the name of wineprefix? If yes, modify the line PREFIX="EVEonline" into PREFIX="new_name" d.) open playonlinux and go to Tools -> Run a local script e.) during the install process it asks you to either download the installer or to choose a local installer. Pick the option download the installer. I dunno why but if you dont download the installer it crashes

EVE under wine is a moving target and will break now and then. When things stops to work try using a clean wineprefix. (And it doesn't hurt to clean the cache in EVE now and then.)
At the moment I'm at wine 1.7.55 and 358.16 Nvidia drivers and my wineprefix contains
vcrun2005 vcrun2008 vcrun2010 corefonts and nothing else. No overrides needed. DirectX is set to DirectX 9 in the EVE launcher.
Also stay out of captains quarters, it's known to fail.

For starters, try a clean prefix.
With DoD you don't even need to mangle with sharedcache locations. Just run the exefile with a different prefix, and it will download whatever it needs to at least start up.
I checked with 1.8rc1, and a completely clean prefix (only d3d11 override) should work out of the box without installing or overriding anything.
From there you can try to work out what's messing with you. |

I tried uninstalling Wine using the link provided but it doesn't actually do anything about removing it from my system (I still get "Browse virtual C Drive" and "Configure Wine" options when I go into my start menu. From what I understand it's just a case of uninstalling EVE, uninstalling Wine, then installing the latest Wine and installing EVE onto it again? But how do I completely get rid of wine first on Mint. Really big thanks to anyone who can help me out, you may find an Ashimmu makes its way to your guy in game if you can. |

Obviously, with the last release, CCP have improved their shaders/engine, which is now incompatible with the some common releases of wine, or even in some cases edge releases of wine.
Even though linux is not officially supported for eve, it would be great from both a customer support and marketing point of view, to have more information from any CCP developers about what has changed internally, so that the community who cares about tinkering with linux can work to fix these issues. |

I did build wine from scratch and installed it in /usr/local (after deleting all old wine stuff there). In my experience with debian the wine package is always behind.
However, my winbind package is 2:4.1.17+dfsg-2. Which version does your Mint distribution have? |

You've confirmed you are not loading into CQ correct? Disable station environment via esc menu before you load the game just to make sure something in your settings changed without warning. |

Can confirm wine-1.8-rc3 works after plenty of . Some notes if it helps anyone:
- I'm on debian x86_64 jessie. - The apt wine and wine-development packages do not work, so compile everything from the wine github repo and tag, make sure to install dev packages for i386 before compiling. - Use a new WINEPREFIX and use the on-demand-installer to bootstrap eve. The full download installer fails to get past the first dialog. - Once the launcher starts, disable dx11 in the settings BEFORE you login and start eve. The exefile does not work for me anymore, even when disabling dx11 with dll overrides in winecfg, because the windows API will still try to use backported and unsupported dx11 features in previous drivers. - I did not use winetricks. |

Yes, CQ is dissabled, still no success. It seems that the only semi-solution is to instal unstable wine 1.8 |

I had to install wine 1.8.rc3 in order to run EVE. It runs as normal so far after playing 1 hr.
Here is HOWTO for Mageia 5 (both 32 and 64 bit) users:
1. Completely uninstall your current wine (restart the OS)
Next steps in su mode:
2. wget https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/Release.key
rpm --import Release.key 3. urpmi.addmedia "WineHQ 32-bit" https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/mageia/5/i586/

I've gotten Wine 1.8rc3 installed. Game comes up good, but my mouse cursor seems to be off. Where I put it is not where the game shows it to be. I have to be up and to the left about an inch to trigger something, Deffinitly not good for playing Eve
Anyone else have this issue or know a fix? |

Didn't want to start a new topic.
Has anyone using linux been able to see the new shield or armour effects? I have been running full graphics since the big patch came out and everything has been smooth except I havn't seen any of the cyclical effects yet. Am worried it's a dx11 thing and we aren't going to be able to enjoy it. Please some one say they have seen them so I can relax. |

The only new effects that my top of the system can see are the engines, kill marks and webifiers. Shield hardeners and boosters, Armor hardeners and repairers, the damage hits shown on youtube for shield, armor and structure damage, are all no-shows. I am beginning to wonder if this is the start of a full DX11 conversion process and soon we won't be able to play EvE on linux without that failure of a api's compatibility. |

Yer I'm starting to get that feeling... I am hoping that someone has seen them on dx9...otherwise things are going to start looking a bit bleak for us lot. |

I see the new shield and armour melting effects just fine with dx9. The command I run is
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*msvcrt,*msvcr100,*msvcr80=b,n" wine-development "~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/CCP/EVE/bin/ExeFile.exe" \/triPlatform=dx9
I am running Debian Jessie and I didn't compile anything, I just enabled backports repositories and only downloaded the wine-development package. Wine and wine-development are 2 separate packages that are co-existing on my installation, I noticed no interaction between the 2 versions.
I just added the
deb http://http.debian.net/debian jessie-backports main
line to /etc/apt/sources.list. You need root permissions to do that.
Then I ran
sudo apt-get install -t jessie-backports wine-development sudo apt-get install wine-development
Eve then loaded fine with shield and armour effect, you just need to make sure you are invoking wine-development instead of wine in the command which I use to launch Eve which is once again
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*msvcrt,*msvcr100,*msvcr80=b,n" wine-development "~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/CCP/EVE/bin/ExeFile.exe" \/triPlatform=dx9

Just to confirm. You are seeing the cyclical effects and not just the effects when your ship is hit? |

I would be happy for an option to replace ships with plain objects, like elongated pyramids. Haven't bothered looking closely enough to see any of the new effects

Thanks for asking this, I hadn't noticed there were cyclical effects, I only notice the effect when getting hit. |

I had a friend on windows load up DX9 version, he said he could still see the armor hardener effect. Armor reps do not show much unless you're already damaged. We did not have shield ships to test for those cyclical. |

The cyclical effects are really handy for intel as you can tell straight off whether a ship is shield tanked or armour tanked, as well what sort of other tanking mods a target might have fitted.

That's cool, I really like to be able to tell what sort of a tank a ship is using so these effects are important to me. Plus they look pretty!

That's cool to hear, I don't suppose you could test a shield ship? I have no access to windows atm.
