Dear CCP, our uber and 1337 overlords,
Please remove the ******* clouds and dust from mission deadspaces (or make it optional).
:
additional: make all objects as "wire frame" optional So I'm able to use my old VGA-Card again...

This is so so so so the most annoying thing for me.
1. Huuuuge lage inducer 2. Frame rate self destruction when in complexes 3. Obscures a lot of visibility

signed as well, for it to be an option.
I'd be much more happy to play this game smooth and wait for content, then to have the content and not have good performance.

I try, but people with an 'I have no problem so there is no problem' attitude just irritate me so badly...
Ok, you're right man. I do understand that. I do take a hit from those clouds though, and acknowledge that they're definitely an issue. I just enjoy them enough that I personally wouldn't turn them off. But I did sign the petition because I definitely don't have the above mentioned attitude . And I'm really not trying to drag this out, I just felt like I must've given you the wrong idea with my first post. All I meant was, I have a slower vid card than the OP, and while I do lose some frames, I'm not having an issue of playability.
This also serves as a bump. Whats good for the community is good for everyone, even if they are using 8800gtx's in SLI

I like the cloud effects but they really are fps/lag-tastic. Would prefer that the likes of this sort of thing is kept very much to the background so i dont have to feel like i might crash to desktop when i have to pan my camera about :)

And in bright systems it's still sometimes a pain to check in the HUD whether the modules are on or off.
[x] Don't draw clouds in deadspace areas. [x] Show a black background with 25% translucency under the HUD.

The number 1 performance upgrade that Eve could recieve.
There is a way to remove these but I'm not sure of it's "legality" and as such I will not discuss it here.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight that matters, it's the number of dogs you warp in with. |

What you are asking, is that in comparsion with real life, you are asking someone to make snow and fog and heavy rain optional in the weather, when you need to drive your car from point A to point B, because it disturbs you. IT HAS to disturb you, thats the point of the clouds in the game (compare it with bad weather in real life ... you can't turn it off). Their not there to make your picture pretty, but to make your navigation and stuff harder.
I have 3 years old computer and no way too powerful GPU (Nvidia 7800GS AGP) and I have no problem with clouds even in windowed mode (1600x900), so there's something else that's painful for your FPS (like the number of ships in your mentioned blockade mission, or your internet's connection speed or your totally useless antivirus software that takes 60% of your CPU or the fact that you added manually to your EVE some 16x antialias that shouldnt be there or you have like 10 others applications and 50 services running in the background).
Maybe, just maybe, they should add an option to turn down the clouds detail level and making them from nice semi transparent cloud to plain opaque spheres for the 'I_am_too_silly_to_learn_how_to_optimize_my_computers_performance' people. I honestly don't understand what's the person with 7950 card is whining, because he eighter hasnt applied nvidia drivers to his card (and is running the game with default VGA drivers) or he wants to run 4 separate eve's on one computer on 4 different displays (and then it sure lags).

This is long overdue. Pretty graphics are nice, but I want to play a game, not take an art class. Make it work first, then make it pretty.

Not: it is asking that the street lamp use orange and not white light to reduce refraction in the fog, that the road is build so to drain the rain and not to pool it, ecc.
The effect of the clouds blocking sight can be done with dark cloud, the choice to have bright ones is wrong, as it is eye soring an affect the player, not the in game visibility.
The same for the module readout.
A yellow bright background make the light green activation display almost invisible.
If you don't think this are problems because you know of to "adjust" your video card to compensate, good for you, but don't pretend all the rest of the world must rise to your heights of expertise to play.
EVE would be a very solitary game then.

The only valid reason to make them optional is framerate.
Having some missions be difficult, or force you not zoom out, or limit movement, or make it hard to target/see enemies is fun.
Sameness == boredness
Varity == spice of life
I'd actually like to see more enviromental effects like clouds slow you down, asteroids block fire, EM storms screw with targeting, etc.

So what you are saying is that it is okay that clouds make EVE harder for people with slow computers while not affecting those with fast ones? Because the mere graphical effect of the clouds has pretty much zero effect on me, I shoot using almost exclusively the overview anyway. The only bad thing about it is the framerate hit. So I am pretty sure that the intended effect of the clouds is NOT to disturb you but quite the opposite, to make missions prettier to the eye. Now if it was possible to tune the cloud graphics down but they actually had adverse effects on your ship ingame, that would be interesting too. But them simply killing performance on old comps is NOT okay.
Besides, a 7800GS is quite a lot more powerful than the usual 3-year old computer... --------- ZOMG my sig was concordokkened! Link removed due to bad language on remote site. -wystler
