GAME PLAY
1st: beginer quests need some tweeking. from what i understand these are some what new... but they are MAJORLY NEEDED to help us new players learn and understand the game.
A: There needs to be a NPC in a ship at the very start that will give you a quest to see the other helpful "F12" NPCs *i spent about a day saving up for my first Venture not knowing about these quests... that give you two ventures*
B: These quests really need some more details on what you are expected to do. there were many of these quests i had to ask in rookie help to figure out WTF i was suppose to do. on that note it would be nice if you could share quests in chat so people can see what quest it is.
2nd: ship controls. over all i like the way ships are controled in this game over any other space game i have played. but a lot of the controls are ALL OVER the place. and some things like "aligne to" do dumb things like try and go to the aligned object at full speed instead of setting speed to say 5 m/s aligning and then STOPING. the sensor overlay popping up all the time... just simple little things can really be annoying and a turn off for new and old players.
3rd: Options a lot of the options to change things are hard to find and/or in strange areas. it took me a long time to figure out where the overlay setting were. and there are camera and other such controls in genreal options in stead of where there is already an options tab for them. some things i still haven't figured out.... like if you select a sation and hover over "dock" it has a "D" symbol like you can press "D" on your keyboard and you will dock. also seems to be no way to lock the tool bar or what ever it is on the far left side so it dosen't get resized by accedent.
4th: balance
A: i have gotten high level rat spawns in high sec areas.... and been blown up quickly as i am still a low level char.
B: trying to learn probing and going threw a worm hole to find my self in null space... i can understand not having concord or what ever they are called in these areas... but the high sec worm holes that newbies are scanning down should maybe have some sort of worm hole dwelling group in them that enforce security with in these low level worm holes.
C: player ganks and traps -with in 10. - 8. space there needs to be some why to protect new players from these things maybe have a station or other such building with in these systems that give a buff/boost that any one with this buff firing on some one else with this buff has that damage reduced to 1 damage. -the only trap i have seen so far is the box of loot sitting out and some one waiting for some newbie that dosen't know not to loot it.... in these systems i think you should not be able to loot these things at all.
SUBSCRIPTION - PLEX - CASH SHOP i have heard rummers that you guys are considering going free to play if that is true or not... you guys really need to work on player cosmetic items... you guys have like 2 female shirts that are cute. and not a single cute par of pants/shorts or shoes.
if it IS true.... i caution VERY must to sticking to cosmedic/vanity things and don't offer any thing like "reduces training time by (X) number of time"
event items... at least frostline ones since i haven't seen any others.... need some work also. would be nice to get things like santa hats, santa beards, a cute fluffy coat. a shuttle that looks like a sled being pulled by raindeer.
and don't be afraid to reuse these things every year... maybe add one or two unquic items each year and add or tweak the look of existing things you used last year.
PLEX these are bought with real money and should be treated diffrently then other items. the other day i heard some one on the killboard got ganked in highsec with 25 PLEX on him... and they all vanished. that is a lot of money to lose and kinda feels like a cash sink... and discurages people from buying them... and this limits supply for those of us that depend on the plex to be able to play the game. on that note it seems the price of PLEX continues to raise.... making it harder for a poor person to be able to make the isk to buy one.
as an added note you guys should continue to add more and more free roam content for us to be able to walk about. not saying dovot your self to a mass patch... just a little added here and there so we can show off our chars to our friends ingame.... this will help your vanity item sales in the cash shop..... when you get some cute cloths. and give people some thing to do if they don't feel like actually playing the game but don't have much else to do... maybe add accade games our chars can walk up to and play. |

You're talking to people, right now, that have been new and did just fine when the new player experience was a LOT HARDER than it is now. You complain about having to ask in rookie help for help, but the thing is, that's EXACTLY what you need to be doing. Learn from those with the experience, who have been there and done that, don't demand changes to a game you barely even understand enough to know what it really needs.

Not to mention a lot of things are just plain wrong.
A. There are suggestions towards the career agents.
B.There is WAY more female outfits available.
C.Missions (Not quests, it give away what hand hold game you came from) give more then enough info on what to do. In EVE you are expected to use your head.
D. WHs spawn randomly. There are no 'wormholes newbies are probing'. There are wormholes.
E. You are protected against ganks in new player systems. In ALL other systems, CONCORD works as the real police. They punish, they wont protect you permanently.
F. PLEX are just in game items. If you are dumb to move one in a ship you should be kiloed and in the first place should not be allowed near a PC.

Yes, WH space is lawless..
And gues what, they are different systems from highaec so no **** they have other rules.
By that rule, low sec should be safe too, cause they are connected to highsec.
And null too, caue it is connected too.
Dumb reasons are dumb.

from the other missions* i have done i haven't had too much issue with them just the noobie ones you don't even know about unless some one tells you about them... and then the missions* aren't written like they are for a NEW player to be able to understand.
oh!? where?.... i searched all of the cash shop for cute female cloths.
the whole idea of having noobie missions IS TO hold your hand... PS if you are refering to WoW i played it for like 1 day... i desided to play shine instead. >.>
i understand that worm holes conect all over the play how they are now... i had one close on me and had to go threw like 4 of them to find my way out... there should be lower difficulty ones... or make it so that a lowbe char can't scan down WHs...
i know concord attacks people for attacking in any concord protected area... the other option would be to make it so that a new player is protected from getting ganked for (X) amount of days... but that just seems unlogical game wise and also can easily be exploited.
im not dumb enough to go any where with a PLEX... but oviusly there are people rolling around with 25 PLEX in their ships. >.> |

You know, when I was new, I posted some dumb things in the forums too. But I know now that they weren't dumb so much as I didn't know what I was talking about. I didn't understand EVE. It's a typical rookie move, really. Us vets should be expecting it. I can't say I blame you, though. Adapting to new things can be a little overwhelming. But if you let it, it can also be exciting and a great learning experience. EVE Online is one of the most fulfilling gaming experiences I've ever had. No, it is the single most fulfilling, bar none. Let me tell you a story.
When I was new, after I finished my career missions, I decided I'd give mining a crack. It seemed to be the easiest thing to get into at the time, and I already had some stuff for it, so why not? My rookie system was Couster, not far from Seyllin, and after a couple hours of mining junk in high sec, I looked up where to find some better stuff nearby on the internet, and there she was, Seyllin, all full up with shiny Jaspet. I hopped in my little Navitas armed with a mining laser and a single civilian electron blaster, and I went to low. I read the warning, I prepared my anus, and went to find some Jaspet.
By my fourth undisturbed trip between Seyllin and Couster with full loads of Jaspet, I was bored. But I was also obsessed. I was making isk and it seemed like the only thing to do. I got lucky though, I was saved from the trap because my own decision to seek out the better ore lead me into the waiting jaws of a Jaguar from General Tso's Alliance.
He blapped me and my pod so fast I thought the game had crashed. Literally thought that.
When I realised I was reloading in Couster station, I knew I'd found my calling. "I want to do to that guy what that guy just did to me"
And I started paying very close attention to learning the mechanics, the ships, how skills worked and all that. Along the way, I got a little arrogant and came on the forums demanding something dumb, then got salty for being put in my place and stormed out, unsubscribed from EVE, and then came back two weeks later. Because gosh darn it, I really wanted to kill that guy that messed up my mining!
That's when I realised my mistake on the forums - I'd been put in my place by guys who'd been doing this forever, and I'd been told things that I SHOULD have learned from. Long story short, I met some guys, learned to PVP, and now I'm pretty damn good at it, doing a lot more than that Jaguar did to me. As a predominantly solo PVP pilot with an 84% success rate, I'd even go so far as to brag a little. But more than that, I enjoy sharing my experience and helping others to learn to PVP because I KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE NEW.
And so does everyone else here that has criticised and/or trolled your OP. And they don't do it out of spite (although there may be a degree of jaded bitterness from seeing the same thing over and over), they do it because through ridicule, MAYBE you'll get mad, maybe you'll walk out, but the seed will be there in your mind, a seed that may or may not grow into something remarkable that makes you into this prodigal powerplayer with few to challenge you in your chosen field of expertise within EVE Online.
The choice is entirely yours to learn from the best, or die like the rest.

The point is to get you interacting with people. You are not going to do well if you plan to play this game all on your own against hundreds of thousands of other players. Cuz like it or not, everything you do you do in competition with them. This is a PVP game. There is no instancing, and no safe spaces beside your rookie system, which you'll have to leave if you plan on achieving anything.

Couple of other things, OP.
When you buy plex, it goes into the redeeming system. It stays there until you redeem it. What you're meant to do is be in the station you want to sell it when you redeem it. If you're undocking with plex in your cargo, that is your own fault and the same rules apply to everyone, regardless of what you've chosen to spend and chosen to do with what you've bought. There is no reason, though, to undock with plex. Unless you're me and are planning to get ganked with ten of them in the cargo of a Mastadon on Feb 1.... but that's a different story altogether.
Anyway, if you undock with it, it's because you're prepared to lose it. Undocking is consenting to pvp, because other people are going to pvp you whether you like it or not. Carrying plex is definitely not a protective criteria and CCP will not reimburse you for your own follies.
As for the rumors that EVE is going free to play - this is highly unlikely. EVE has survived for over a decade, longer than WoW, on a healthy subscription model that costs players no more than 50c a day. If EVE went free to play, many dedicated hobbyist subscribers that have been here for many years would take that as a sign of EVE's end, and leave. Free to play only benefits casuals, and casuals don't sub. EVE would have to become a smorgasbord of microtransactions to edge by, and in all but name, it simply would not be EVE anymore. EVE has to stand on its unique merits, or not at all.

This is the part of your post that is going to face most criticism. New players need to learn the hard way that EVE is a dangerous universe, protecting them from harm is just going to hurt them more in the long run.
Furthermore, players who die early in their EVE career tend to stay subbed for longer. This isn't your average MMO, the constant feeling of danger is something that you just don't get in other MMOs today. It is that danger that keeps many of us playing and coming back.
Kia Son wrote:would be nice to get things like santa hats, santa beards, a cute fluffy coat. a shuttle that looks like a sled being pulled by raindeer.
EVE has a certain aesthetic, I feel that adding gimmicky items like these will ruin immersion for many of us.
Kia Son wrote:PLEX these are bought with real money and should be treated diffrently then other items. the other day i heard some one on the killboard got ganked in highsec with 25 PLEX on him... and they all vanished. that is a lot of money to lose and kinda feels like a cash sink... and discurages people from buying them...
A fool and his money are soon parted. This is as true in EVE as it is in real life. There is no reason for anyone to move PLEX in a ship, as they can be redeemed anytime from any station via the Assets menu. People shouldn't be rewarded for making mistakes, otherwise they'll never learn from them.

Remiel Pollard wrote:You know, when I was new, I posted some dumb things in the forums too.
That was a beautiful post, mate. All the applauses.

If you can scan out a Wormhole in High-sec, you can just as easily scan out most things in W-space. Nonetheless, I stand by my offer. So whenever you feel you are ready, send that mail.
Pro-tip: When ever you happen to lose your ship to another player (and that happens in EvE, all part of the game), ask that player what you could have done to avoid it. Be it by winning the confrontation or avoiding/escaping it altogether. He/she just bested you, you can learn from that person. Not all will be polite or willing to answer, but a surprising large part of the EvE player base would. Just be a little cool about the loss (sh*t happens in EvE) and chances are high you get treated cool.
Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format.
Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

There are multiple "difficulties" of wormholes (C1 being the "easiest").
As for not being able to scan something, that would break something fundamental in EVE, called "THE sandbox". Just cause you don't want to have hard things availble, doesn't mean that other newbies don't want it. So if a new player doesn't want to mine/mission/explore/scam/trade, no other new player should be allowed to that?
On before hand, you CAN actually check what type of wormhole you are about to jump into, by looking up the info given too you.

That defeats the purpose of aligning. The purpose of aligning is insta-warping. If you stop then no insta-warp when you click warp-to, If you stop you're not aligned, you're just pointed at your destination. Although an argument can be made for setting speed to 75%, as opposed to max speed. Since only 75% is required.

From the nature of your complaints it sounds like you're just not part of the target demographic for this game. Eve provides a lawless venue for gaming where the only law is the one the players enforce. If you want some wormhole councel to protect newbies, then you need to inspire a bunch of players to make such a council.

Let me high-light someting for that small brain of yours from the following site:
https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Rookie_Systems
Quote:Warning: Attempting to abuse a new playerGÇÖs lack of knowledge of the game and its mechanic for your personal gain or simply for their harm is prohibited in these solar systems. This includes, but is not limited to; tricking new players into situations where you or others may open fire on them freely or scamming ISK or assets from them. Disregarding warnings to cease such behavior from authorized CCP personnel is considered to be in violation of section 6 of the EVE Online Terms of Service.
Pilots found to pursue activities against new players in other areas may be subject to further restrictions as deemed necessary by CCP Games Customer Support Team.
So, guess again.
New players ARE protected, in the rookie systems listed. Once they jump the gate, all free game though.

I understand the issues
But what are new players to do?
Either they join corp that has sent the ganker to 'impress them', and end up in gameplay that was never as intended - I'll point tot eh threas I recently read about a newb that somehow got themselves involved in faction warfare, in which the kill mails they received on undocking provided intel to the rest of the corp - or they quit the game on the logical assumption (based on other MMOs) that this is somehow part of the PVE
And let's not forget that there are parts of the tutorial in which CCP deliberately scam the new player - blow up the tower and the mission in which you fight 20 or so frigates but cannot warp out or win unless you are well into hull damage - none of which has anything to do with later game play
And it is not like this is secret..there are any number of corps that award medals for driving new players away in this fashion
But if new players don't know that this bannable or how to report it - then how are the morons that do it to be banned, or the players driven from the game, before they even started, to know to report it?
I don't agree with much the OP has to say - but this is such an obvious problem, and so easily solvable (heck, just tell the work placement guy to set up a new account and ban anyone who has flipped a can) that not even the most ship-balancing devs at CCP can ignore the blinking obvious... |

Wrong Q.
The Q you should ask: What can WE (the community) do?
Answer:
Inform and teach new players how the game really works. Reach out to the new players, show them how wonderful the game is and what it has to offer.
The "Good" players are in far higher quantity then the "Bad" players that will ruin it for new players. Issue is that most of the people, expect that CCP does it and don't do anything themself to get new players settled in the game.
And how would a new player know that: Simple, it is listed in the Rookie Help as a link.
p.s. "Good" doesn't mean you should be a white knight. I know plenty of pirates and people who practise professions that are best done under the cover of darkness that are more then willing to help new players to get into the game.

Moreover the rookie system policy expressly only protects new players. You can do whatever the hell you want to players who aren't new in those systems. You'll find non-rookies in rookie systems doing all kinds of junk usually either predatory recruiting targeted at new players, running the SOE epic arc for standing in their marauder or T3 or mining there because people generally don't look there for gank targets. |

I am trying to keep up with your meandering rhetoric, but it's mostly incoherent dribble that does not match what actually happens in EVE, so I'm going to give up. You seem to be asserting that CCP does nothing about people who bother new players in rookie systems - evidence will be required, if you don't mind, to prove this assertion and as it is the premise of what appears to be your problem, your problem is easy to dismiss as a personal one that no one needs to care about at all. Meaning if you leave, you won't be missed. The two new people I just finished showing some fundamentals of fitting have a very good attitude and are very keen to learn more about EVE, so your subscription money has already been replaced. If you really need 3423479 posts saying "I'm a drama queen, poor and have to make choices, please make EVE free and I'll stick around not paying anything at all. It's better for the game that way, honest" then you might as well quit and spend your time more wisely.
I'll happily pay 20 euro/month and add another account just for good measure to sweeten the deal for CCP. |

J'Poll wrote:Wrong Q.
Sure, CCP should make it even more clear that it is frowned upon, I totally agree.
Yes, I do think CCP should also make it even more clear that EVE has a forum, with a great community and in there, there is a special part for new players to ask their questions. And that part is also heavily moderated (Thank you ISD and the community team of CCP for all that hard work) so it is also very civilized.
All in all, CCP should make new players more aware of the existing community. And the existing community should put a little into getting those newbies in, it doesn't take much with such a big group to show new players, why we LOVE EVE and why they might fall in love with it too.
p.s. "Good" doesn't mean you should be a white knight. I know plenty of pirates and people who practise professions that are best done under the cover of darkness that are more then willing to help new players to get into the game.
Pretty much this. There's only so much you can expect CCP to do. EVE is all about community & the community has already done a great job of explaining how things work. The NPE could be expanded on in a few areas but at its core it should still be 'Here's a ship, **** you'.

Again,
before you whine, maybe check out the fact yourself.
For instance CCP and or ISD:STAR are quite often present in new player systems, to monitor new players (both the behaviour and to help them get going).
Then there are many occasions I had with alts (as CCP can't see if it's an alt account or a genuine new player) is that one of the community devs open a convo with me after a hour of playing to check up on me (which wasn't needed, but they still do it).
So, yeah, CCP is actually doing quite a lot to help. But in the end, EVE is goaled towards a certain type of gamer, and the majority of the gamers won't fit that audience.
And a very very big community will go to the end of the galaxy to help a new player if they have questions and is mature enough to go find some help from others.
It has been said before multiple times, EVE is a MMO where a lot of the important stuff is based on the community. So, use that.

Reading the OP, it becomes evident the habit of reliance upon "hand holding" game structure had this person waiting for the game to do something, or some neon sign to flash with instructions A through Z. Many of the "faults" mentioned have to do with bothering to take a close look at things such as the interface, and to observe rather than expect.
This is rather common: "When I press A I expect B to happen, but it doesn't, so the game is broken." Why expect A to happen? Because A happens in all the other games I play, so it "should" happen here as well...or the game is broken. It's possible the "entitlement generation" believes its observations are more significant than actualities - as in even having the vocabulary to follow this sentence. "You use big words. I can't understand big words. I only know small words. You're broken."
What I see with the complaints about the intro is first and foremost a level of impatience at the outset that is debatable whether engineering should be used to accommodate it, as it is obviously either a learning disability involved, or a character flaw in that someone will not take the time to consider...there are other points of view, and other ways to do things - other than the WoW model "some" gamers seem to think is the MMO Bible.
Having done every iteration of the intros since 2007 I have to say it's never been more obvious, hand holding or...accommodating. Anyone who complains at this point should really take a long look at themselves.
And that's my two-cents worth.
PS "turn ons" and "turn offs" What? Is this the sixties again?
There just isn't anything that can be said!

Your character sheet has a tab that shows kills and deaths.
Also, a lot of PVP'ers link their kills via the API system, so you can google yourself.
In any case, this game does not have separation between newbies and veterans. You can jump into the fray from day 1, and even sometimes win (other MMO's a level 1-10 attacking a level 60+ won't even hit). But of course that comes with "bad" side effects, like wormholes to dangerous space opening in highsec, and veteran PVP'ers roaming high-sec. |

Well, the player base grew just fine back when there was actually less coddling of beginners. We did not get a venture, let alone 2, for doing tutorial missions.
As for PLEX, if you are dumb enough to un-dock with them in your hold...well...you are just being dumb. Why would you even do that?
And PLEX are not real money once they become in game items.

It's their choice to move 25 PLEX at once and losing the worth of real money to gankers. It's a game feature, not something that should or can be changed. If you want to buy a PLEX and sell it, redeem it from the station and not out in null/ls or even any other station in hs for that matter. You are NOT safe anywhere, that is what EVE is all about, a sandbox game where anything can happen.
What about ships worth over 3 PLEX that is lost on a regular basis throughout EVE? What about the titans worth over $1000 estimated real-life US-dollars? What makes these different?
PLEX is on the down-hill, prices have been dropping for weeks now. Also, the fact that you think they are expensive now indicates to me that you didn't really get why PLEX is an in-game item. If everyone was playing for free because of PLEX then CCP wouldn't be here today. I'm currently able to make a PLEX in-game every 4 days, but spend most of it on PVP, helping noobs or injecting it into the corp/alliance, and lets be honest, grinding PLEX is boring. |

You get that feedback message only in your first sub month then I assume? I am watching the video now btw.
If people are renewing.... then they don't count as people that have left, do they.

What would be the time frame for renewing then to define a player as 'not left'? If I renew my sub after 1 year for 1 month do I count as 'has not left'? Just pointing out that you can measure subs and people leaving for whatever reason in different ways. Just as CCP can generate sub statistics that suit them and say that only 1% leaves cos of ganking. I take those statistics with a grain of salt. |

However that only gives them an idea of the new player behaviour in his/her first day/week//month. What could help CCP also is getting insight on the players like myself that only sub a few months per year. I wonder if they are interested to know why I don't play the whole year... and why they can't keep an old signed up account like myself active in the game the whole year. The longest time I played in a row was the first 3 months, after that I only pop in a few months a year. |

1st: beginer quests need some tweeking. > I'll agree here, but tweeking said missions is difficult to give players all that they need to understand to play certain aspects of eve well. It's just too big to teach you everything for you. all they can really do is give you the tools to play and hope you care enough to learn new things by looking them up.
A: Why? these missions are available in station and that's where you start. Putting one outside the station would have players flying around looking for more out of station NPC's to get missions from, and while they do exist they are not often used. Stick to stations for missions.
B: Some of them can be confusing however if you read everything from the agent it often tells you whats up.
2nd: ship controls. but a lot of the controls are ALL OVER the place. > There is a lot you can do with your ship, it's not easy to just set up perfect for all pilots, but you can change the key bindings in the settings menu if you want something better. Aligning is usually followed by warp, and seeing how you need 75% max speed to enter warp this is more useful in it's current state than if it were changed only to align you at 0% velocity. As for the sensor overlay you can turn the effect off if i remember correctly.
3rd: Options a lot of the options to change things are hard to find and/or in strange areas. > This i can agree with, but again with so many things able to be done in the game it's hard to just compact all the options into one location. Most have the options to change them whereever the object is on your overview. If your changing the overview, check the overview box, changing ship options, click on the ship or your capacitor ect.
some things i still haven't figured out.... like if you select a sation and hover over "dock" it has a "D" symbol like you can press "D" on your keyboard and you will dock. > D is the symbol because it would be hard to fit a small image of a ship docking in that area. I think you can change the keybinding if you want.
also seems to be no way to lock the tool bar or what ever it is on the far left side so it dosen't get resized by accedent. > This can be annoying but shouldn't be game breaking for you.
4th: balance
A: Then watch out for them. most things in high sec wont shoot at you unless you knowingly enter a hostile location, the only real exceptions to this are drifters. If you are unsure of what it is you are warping to, warp at range to give yourself time to escape.
B: Yeah no, wormholes are dangerous and that's how they stay. If you wanted to stay safe you should have stayed in high sec.
C: player ganks and traps -with in 10. - 8. space there needs to be some why to protect new players from these things > why?
-the only trap i have seen so far is the box of loot sitting out and some one waiting for some newbie that dosen't know not to loot it.... in these systems i think you should not be able to loot these things at all. > Again, why these suggestions remove gameplay and make the game less interesting so why?
SUBSCRIPTION - PLEX - CASH SHOP It's true that players have made rumors discussing the possibility of F2P eve but there is absolutely 0 actual evidence from CCP about the idea. Also those cosmetic items change often and new ones are added almost every patch.
if it IS true.... i caution VERY must to sticking to cosmedic/vanity things and don't offer any thing like "reduces training time by (X) number of time" > Yeah, we know, trust me we know.
event items... at least frostline ones since i haven't seen any others.... need some work also. would be nice to get things like santa hats, santa beards, a cute fluffy coat. a shuttle that looks like a sled being pulled by raindeer. ... umm no? That might be cute and work for other mmo's but i would hate to see this in eve. If you want to show off your character in a santa suit with a beard, use photoshop.
Also they add 2-3 dozen new items every year around the holidays that represent random things that have happened in the galaxy. Typically these are gag gifts to players but they also give out snowball and fireworks launchers and ammo so theres that.
PLEX these are bought with real money and should be treated diffrently then other items. > No, and if yes why?
the other day i heard some one on the killboard got ganked in highsec with 25 PLEX on him... and they all vanished. that is a lot of money to lose and kinda feels like a cash sink... and discurages people from buying them... and this limits supply for those of us that depend on the plex to be able to play the game. > Sorry but no. This person was an idiot for transporting it that way, you can redeem plex at any station you want just by being in that station, no need to travel with them in your cargo, ever. Further it doesnt reduce the amount available by any noticeable degree. If your selling plex, get to the station you want to sell first. If your buying then just use it there is no point ever to travel with plex in your cargo.
on that note it seems the price of PLEX continues to raise.... making it harder for a poor person to be able to make the isk to buy one. > The price, like almost every other item in the game, is not set by CCP it's set by supply and demand of the players. Demand is high so is the price. Want it to go down? Buy less pay for the game yourself more.
as an added note
This whole section is walking in stations which has been discussed to death. The closest we have is captains quarters and DUST and that's all we'll likely see for a while.

If the people citing ganking as the reason for leaving then come back, then the percentage of people actually leaving is less than what they've measured, so even if your argument that their methods are unreliable is true based on them coming back later, you're only arguing that EVE is good enough that people will come back to it despite being ganked and feeling hard done by as a result.

There is actually quite a bit of information the game out there. And there is this other thing called Google....
For example, this page explains the concept of velocity in game. Why are these concepts of velocity important? Well, it has to do with how turret damage works in game....which can be found here. And on that page you'll find the equation for the chance to hit. You can also find it here on evelopedia as well. You'll note that transversal speed is part of the chance to hit function. This is why you don't want to fly straight at or away from an attacker. You'll also see in that equation things like signature radius, basically how big a target is your ship. This is why some ships are good at what is known as sig tanking--the ship has a small signature and with good transversal landing a good shot is not that likely.
There is a huge amount of information on how things work in the game. So much so that tutorials to teach it all to you is simply not feasible. You need to figure these things out yourself after a certain point. And Evelopedia is a good place to start. Also, coming to the forums and asking is another option as well.

Like most people not actually posting their real reason for leaving, and that they didn't look at whether or not people joined immediately playing with their mates and whatnot. A new player joining a friend that already plays eve and diving into the game is both more likely to get into combat early on and less likely to quit when blown up, as they have the support of their mates when it happens. A new player starting alone getting ganked I imagine would be less likely to stick around. For player retention to really work it's the latter group that needs to be catered to.
