As usual, I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum. :)
In a way, I consider EVE a perfect laptop game, and since I've been tempted to buy a laptop for a while, this adds further to the temptation. The problem is that I really don't know much about laptops.
I figure RAM and CPU should be pretty much the same, so if I buy one with a Sempron 64 3400+ CPU and 512 MB of DDR2 RAM, it should run EVE decently (correct me if I'm wrong though!). The crunch part for me is always the graphics - will it be enough or won't it? I hope I can draw on some experience from other people, as far as I can tell a lot of you use laptops.
The one I've got my eye on right now has the aforementioned specs, and the GFX part is a "NVIDIA GeForce GO 6100 integrated Graphics with 64Mb of shared system memory". That memory part doesn't sound very good, so another one I've seen had a "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950". I've never heard of either.
Can somebody help me out?

Shared graphic memory + EVE = chatting in station and some trading, but not in Jita. I know cause I have it. Missions, PvP, mining (it's not like I mine, but...), for that you need separate graphics card. |

I played Eve on my laptop for quite some time(long bussiness trips), having a now 2,5 half years old laptop with a NVidia GeForce Go 5200 64MB(non-shared, i think), Intel Pentium M 1.8 GHz.
The graphics card never seemed a problem, what was a problem was 512MB ram, which i then quickly upgraded to 1GB. In my case Eve is often played while multitasking, and thus the ram was the bottleneck, causing delays and loadtimes every time i switch windows. A bit odd was that i could run 2 accounts at the same time, but i always had to minimize one to prevent one of them just closing(crashing). A graphics card with more memory could have helped there i guess.
Just from the name i would suggest against the second, it looks like a card tuned for office and stuff, and not for 3d applications.

Thanks for your replies so far, I've already saved myself some money there.
Another one I've just seen is an ATI Radeon Express 200. It doesn't say how much memory it has, but it does say it is an "integrated" card. Guess that's no good either then?

Get 1024MB RAM and keep far away from any form of shared graphics. Try and get a graphic card designed for laptops just as long as it's not shared.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 with an ATI x1400 graphics card. The laptop is running dual-core Intel processor at 1.8Ghz and has 1GB or RAM. Eve runs perfectly in all situations.
I'd say as long as you have a decent video card (i.e. non-shared) and 1GB of ram you should be fine.

I've got a Acer Travelmate 800 (3 years old, centrino 1GHz, 512 MB and with a ATI MOBILITY RADEONÖ 9000 ) Works very well, only when it's getting really busy onscreen the fps is going down (don't know if this is because of graphics, memory or processor) but it's still very playable. I bought specifically this laptop because it was (3 years ago) one of the few which had a decent, not-integrated graphics card.

I got a 3.2ghz laptop with hyperthreading, 512mb ram, and a Geforce FX Go 5200 vid card in here an it runs fine. I have no problems with the ram.
I can monitor it constantly due to Googles System Monitor, an EVE is in a window. So the whole you must get 1gb ram kinda thing aint true I have no problems. Than again I reinstaled the OS myself an got most of the junk that my laptop came with not start on start up, an I dont tend to run many apps while playing games. But if you have that bad habbit go for it slap 1gb of ram in it, it wont hurt the laptop.
But just a bit of a warning, laptops can get pretty hot. An after awhile the fan MAY get cloged up with tons of dust an start to overheat like mine did. So every once in awhile spray the fan with a can of compressed air(or if your confident in your ability in taking it apart, an possibly voiding warrenty, do so an clean it out if you use it 24/7 like I do)
Oh an by constant use I mean have it on for almost none stop for months at a time. As for me it took my laptops fan to get a bit cloged up dispite the fact it had good ventalation behind it bout 9months or so, an another couple months till I was able to fry eggs on it if I chose to do so.
Also look into Google Desktop, an the HDDlife which tells you your Hard Drive temp and System Monitor(ram, cpu, disk, network usage displayed), those little things help you like there is no tommrow in trouble shooting your computer when something happens. An will help you decide if you really need that extra 512mb ram.
Sorry for the rant, but this is just a few little things I learned from my laptop that I wished I known from the start, figured I'd try to pass the knowledge around.

Do think or have any idea if the Mobility 7000 series will run EVE? The reason I ask is because the 7000 is 32mb.
And if it doesn't that means I'll have to separate with one of my precious boxes so a family member can play EVE with me. And that has me kinda torn atm.
Should I help them play with me or hoard all my preciouses . SEXEH!

Ati X700 with 256 memory. 1 Gig RAM in machine and 1.8 MHZ processor.
In bigger missions it's usually good idea to tune down graphix a bit. If you want to run 2 account in missions, then you will need to even turn off all effects to avoid total screen freezing. But then again, level 4 missions are almost as messy as fleet fights with up to 100 hostiles plus gas clouds and other effects on the screen. Go for separate gfx card if you can. EVE does not go well with some built in ones. especially the fonts might be unreadable.

My laptop has a 2.3 GHz core 2 duo 2Gb ram and a 7900GTX 512 graphics it runs all 4 accounts at the same time on its 1920x1200 screen with ease no issues other than the res is too small for me to read what peeps are saying but i just shoot them anyways so i dosnt matter is about 5 months old now and dell are selling it for more now than when i bought it?
if youre buying a laptop with a good graphics card i would wait till vista is out good and propper so you could: a) Buy a 8000 chip DX10 card to take advantige of eves new graphics engine due anytime soon b) Buy a cheap out of date 7000 chip "when vista is out" and save load of cash :) c) Do the above but with ATI "if they get a DX10 card out in time"
i think the new graphics engine will work with a DX9 just not as well but im not sure.

I bought a laptop specifically for Eve a year and a half ago, it took trips to Best Buy, Circuit City, Frys, Comp USA and a couple other stores. There was only one I could find with what I needed and in my price range, and that was at Circuit City. I have a 2.4GHz proc, 512MB RAM, and a x600 Mobility, with a monster screen. I mean monster. Thing weighs a ton, but I carry it with me to campus every day to run courier missions while focusing on other things, and its battery lasts about an hour max with a full charge. If I run on battery, my fps drops from a tolerable 35 to an unplayable 5-7.
It was one of four laptops that I could find in-stock that did not have an integrated graphics card. It took me a week and a half to find a project that required the laptop so I could write an undergraduate research grant to get it I'm hoping it will keep me Eve-ing on the go while I get my MS for the next couple of years.

Avoid getting anything with shared graphics memory at all costs.

Cost me 1200 Euro's but I bet you can get it cheaper now. It's also great for movies thanks to the widescreen. I love the thing.

I have an Acer Aspire 1681 WLMI I believe...
important specs Pentium M 1.6 ghz 512 megs ram ATI 9700 Mobility 64 meg 60 gig 5400 rpm harddrive 1280x800 resolution (something like that sorry I just woke up)
The game runs really well on it even considering the RAM, although the ram memory isn't shared. It's perfect for playing Eve on the go, although the laptop is 3.5 years old.
Take your time to look for a good laptop with good specs. I found this one being advertised locally for a great price, as this model was comparable to Acer's higher end ferrari series (without the paintjob) while saving $1200 CDN. Pretty good for 3 years ago as I haven't really been in the laptop market since. :)

I've got a laptop with an ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 in it and it sucks bigtime. This is a p4-2400 CPU with 1Gb ram and it plays EVE very, very poorly.
My brother has a similarly specced laptop with a GeForce Go 7600 graphics chip and it's a LOT faster. Plays EVE fine, make of it what you will :/

not really...was using a Lenovo t43 with 512M...mined, did a fare bit of npc hunting...was not as spiffy as my gaming pc, but it did the job just fine when traveling.
But for the top notch graphics, ya, you do need a powerful video card, and really should have at least 1 gig ram (2-4 would be better)
recommend to wait 6-8 months, then buy the cards that were released now (with dx10 ability) and save a bit (in 6 months, it is old, outdated, and cheaper, but still good gear)

I'm running a Compaq Presario V5000 with a 1.9ghz AMD, ATI RX 200m card and 512mb RAM. I've been able to do everything I've wanted to do so far, i.e. mine, rat, pvp, etc. with no problems other than the occasional lag that we all experience from time to time. Sure, the FPS isn't great, but it gets the job done, and I can run Firefox or Photoshop at the same time. When I upgrade my memory, I'm sure it'll run even better.

I've got my eyes set on this one now:
AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile technology TL-52 1024Mb DDR2 667 RAM, 667Mhz. 15.4in WXGA high definition brightview display NVIDIA GeFORCE Go 7200 graphics.
I gather from the page I've been linked to that the Geforce Go is dedicated, and 7200 is actually quite good, and I also figure that the Turion is a dual core? Plus, it's got a gigabyte of ram, which I guess should do nicely. :)

Got the same machine about 9 months ago. Runs 3 accounts with no problem. But because the heat generated on this beast, it burnt out the vid. card about a month ago. Dell sent a tech to the house within a day, and replaced it for no charge. Have since bought a "cooler". Not heard the internal cooling fans turn on since.
Which ever system you decide on, make sure you purchase a cooler for it (cheap, $20 to $50 US).
