??? is this a joke?! A carrier build so you can solo a pair or 3 ravens???
lol. Any ****ty carrier build should be able to take out at least 5-6 ravens...
Want a good tank? Go for an archon...
High, 3 x nos, 2 x control units Med, warp scrambler, 3 x cap recharger II Low, 2 x cap reppers, 3 x hardeners II, 2 x EANM II (or 1 EANM and 1 DMG Control II) Rigs, 3 x cap recharger II rigs.....
With those cap rechargers, You can run those 2 cap reppers forever.. and with 4 in carrier, you should be able to tank 5000+ DPS indefinately...
Get 4 in fighter skill as well, and you should be able to deal ... Around 1200-1300 DPS out..

i came up with
4x drone control 2 true sansha heavy nos
1x dread invuln 1x mag res passive 1x capital booster 1 omni tracker drone 1 named MWD 3 empty (need idea's)
grav backup array 2 co proccessors 2 (cuz even with electronics 5 you have 4. cpu left) empty (prolly go with a halycon for the hell of it)
rigs (need idea's)
with this even using ogre 2's you can deal about 1000 dps

Ok - ill be the firs to actually post constructively.
The setup im posting is for a chimera. It will offer protection vs drones, aswell as offer gang support, and overall combat.
Chimera: 1 Capital Shield transfer array, 2/3 smartbombs, 1 cloak and/or drone control unit.
1 capital shield booster, 1 EM hardener, 1 invuln, 1 shield amp, rest cap rechargers. 1 damage control II, rest pdu.
Rigs = 2 cap capacity, 1 cap recharge.
This will be able to tank 2 dreads easy, whilst providing gang support if needed, and ofcourse pretty good amount of damage. And if any drones are set on you, you can pop them in one cycle of all 2/3 smartbombs.
If you want to have some real fun, and eventually get a wyvern, i highly reccomend you go to town on the setup. Such as 6 faction nos, 3 estamel invuln, 1 40km web, 1 40km scram, capital shield booster. and low slots ofcourse, faction/officer pdu. That'll work wonders ^^
And for the nubtard who was critisising mwd'ing carriers...get a clue.
An mwding nano mothership is 100% invulnerable in low sec. It can outrun all non-nano ships, and it cant be webbed itself, so is able to escape any bubble. Can barely be bumped by other ships, and if it is....it'll be able to web em way before hand.
But ofcourse, you wouldnt know this, because you like flaming other people, about ship setups you dont even have a clue about either.

Well, since you said yourself that you are new to the game IÆll try and explain as best I can...
To begin with, a carrier isn't a standard class of ship, like a Cruiser or a Battleship. Carriers belong to a group of ships we call 'Capital ships', they are much bigger than 'normal' ships, perform different functions and behave in different ways. (Other Capital Class ships are Dreadnaughts and Titans). For a start, Capital class ships are far too big to use regular jump-gates. They rely on a system within the ship, called a 'jump-drive' to move between different systems. They move between systems by jumping to a special 'navigational target' called a 'Cynosural field', which is generated by a special module fitted on the ship of a member of your gang at your target location. Because of this, Capital class ships are not really suited to solo-flying.
Each different type of capital class ship has been designed to fulfil a different role within combat.
The Dreadnaught class is used for sieges of large installations, such as POSs and Stations; they can fit a special module that allows them to massive damage to large, stationary targets, and also to tank a very large amount of damage. The drawback of this is that the Dreadnaught becomes totally immobile while using this module (the 'siege module') and consumes fuel while it is doing so.
Dreadnaught class ships cost around 1.8 Billion ISK to purchase.
The Carrier class of ship consists of two ships for each race. The cheaper and smaller of the two is referred to as a 'Carrier' while the larger and considerably more expensive of the two is known as a 'Mothership'. Carrier class vessels are best suited to Logistics and small gang support. A carrier class ship has the unique ability of launching a special type of Drone, called 'fighters'. These are very large drones, which have about the equivalent hit points and firepower of a Cruiser. Fighters are also fitted with a warp-drive of their own, allowing them to warp around the system if their target warps out. Command of fighters can be assigned to members of your gang, meaning that they will be able to control any fighters assigned to them as if they were drones of their own. A Carrier is able to launch a greater number of drones than any other ship. Each level of the racial Carrier skill allows one more drone to be launched, and Carriers are able to fit a special type of module called a 'drone control unit' to increase the number of drones they may launch by 1 per unit. A Mothership is a much larger variant of a carrier, which can store and launch many more fighters and has the added benefit of being immune to Electronic warfare of any kind.
Carrier class ships cost around 1 Billion ISK to purchase. Mothership class ships cost between 15-20 Billion ISK to purchase.
While a single player or small corp. can relatively easily field Dreadnaughts and Carriers, Motherships are definatly out of reach of the majority of single players and small corps.
In addition to a rather heavy price-tag, Capital ships have a large amount of skill training involved in their piloting. Top-notch supporting skills in tanking, drones, electronics, engineering and weapons are essential to staying alive in a capital ship which is something you can't really acquire quickly. There is nothing wrong with long-term planning, but try not to rush into it, as it will just end badly for you.
One last thing, carriers were never designed to be 'WTF SolopwnmWell, since you said yourself that you are new to the game IÆll try and explain as best I can...

One last thing (I ran out of Space in my last post),
Carriers were never designed to be 'WTF Solopwnmobiles', they are actually rather vulnerable to even a small gang of battleships without support from a gang of your own. Many pilots have slipped up and lost Carriers because they forget this. -----

Oh dear god....Did you not see me say MOTHERSHIP?!?! Dipstick.
Motherships cant be webbed. Motherships cant be sensor dampened or jammed. Motherships are hard to bump. And motherships will survive easy against 10 BS.
And regarding a nano setup - His post was edited, so you obviously didnt read. So yes...yes i do say 'No clue' as your post just proved.

What the hell do motherships have to do with this? Firstly, he asked about carriers. Second, i strongly doubt he will ever be flying a mothership of any sort, judging by his idea of a carrier setup, and the mess this thread is. Third, his post was edited, but it STILL doesnt have anything about nanos in it. Finally, what moron would stick nanos on his 20 bil isk toy is beyond my immagination. And if someone does, it will hopefully reflect the problem with nano/istab ballance enough for CCP to actually do something on that stance. -----

Edited by: Madroxinde on 28/01/2007 01:40:19 lmfao ok chronus26 i said i was a noob not a retard of course carriers are capital ships really who would have thought....
no **** they are capital class thats the point. i want to be able to fly something big mean and nasty after a long time of training and playing. and of course they cost alot they are pwnmobiles even solo. do i plan on taking this thing up agianst 10 bs's solo hell no. i just want to be able to break a small camp of 3-4 ships or reduce a 3-4 man gang to dust because thats about all you find in the lowsec's i end up in.
and if you have ever noticed wyvern falls under the catagory of carrier even if it is a mothership!!! and i would use a wyvern over a chimera anyday just because its all theory here.
mwd on a carrier because it increases top end speed why be so god dam slow a snail can move faster than you. you don't really need it and there are better thing to put in its place. anyway i figured out a decent build not great but i like the looks of it any improvements i can make?
4 drone controls 1 true sansha heavy nos 1 cyno feild gen
capitol booster mag resist 2 dread invuln 2 heavy cap boosters 2 400 and 800 charges cap recharger 2 named warp disrupter (to nail solo ravens and such to the wall) stasis web 2 (same reason)
co-processor 2 3 pds 2
gives good resist and a decent amount of cap regen at this piont just using ogre 2's it can launch 18 at once with the right skills and does pretty good damage
not sure about fighter cap but should be more damage there right?

Dude you ask for help, I gave you help when others just laughed in your face. If you dont want help, dont ask. Simple.
You clearly don't have a clue what you are talking about, I explained to you in simple terms the things that you seemed not to realize with your first few posts as best I could. The fact still remains, there is no way you are ready to fly a carrier any time soon, you don't even show any understanding of basic game mechanics for that matter. There is no way you will afford a Mothership without outside influences (Hint, read: ISK buying)
A Carrier and a Mothership are in completly different ball parks, they are classified in the same market group, they follow along similar design paths, hell they look similar. That does not change the fact that a Mothership is not the same thing as a Carrier.
Fitting any sort of MWD on any capital-class vessle will make little difference in your max speed. The boost in speed applied by the MWD is dependant on the mass of the ship. A 100MN MWD is designed for a battleship, go take a look at the difference in mass between a Battleship and a Carrier. You should find the carrier to have aprox. 10 times the mass. The MWD, even a Deadspace variant will have a miniscule effect on your speed. and yes, there are better things to put in its place.
As for your setup, you just go further to prove how little you understand about this game. How about you play for about a year longer, then come back and ask questions about carriers. Maybe then you'll have some vauge idea on what is utterly stupid and what is not.
I'm a carrier pilot; you aren't. I actualy know what im talking about believe it or not; you don't.
Go buy a kestral, I think thats a little more suited to your level of skill. -----
