In the final Crucible-related chronicle, CCP Dropbear presents to us a man who is fascinated by information, and busy with parsing new data on strange and mysterious sites, when suddenly he receives an unexpected offer.
You can read the chronicle here.

You can read the chronicle about the Vitrauze Agreement here.
Loved it; it sounds like those of us involved with the Arek'Jaalan project are about to have some new developments (pun intended) tossed our way.
Also, was that a slight jab at a few of your more always-online participants (*cough*likeme*cough*) that I detected? |

This is clearly the best of the Crucible related chronicles, but I still think that the old-style chronicles were far better. They added an additional element of immersion, while the new chronicles are little more than embellished patch notes. And that's about as interesting as the description of a toy pitched at some 8-year-old. I get that the new chronicles should relate to current events in the game, but the old chronicles did a better job at that. |

Of the three Crucible ones that I now recall reading, this one and the Customs Office ones grabbed my interest. The first, simply from the immersion standpoint of "What the other side thinks", and how the often minimal-to-no-rules attitude we capsuleers have can be viewed from the outside.
This one, and now the Arek'Jaalan project in general, have grabbed my interest as a wormhole resident, simply from seeing all of the stuff mentioned every day.
I more agree with your take when applied to the second one. It did feel more like an advertisement brochure than anything else.

I'm loving this project to bits. It's giving players a chance to be part of and shape the backstory, without the mistakes made in the past. Having a blast playing my part in it. Plus, we all get to do science. Yay for science! Lovely to see a chron on this. Dropbear knows how to keep up on the edges of our seats in anticipation of what is next. See, I love the idea of chronicles and very much enjoyed most of the older ones. This is why I'm complaining. And yes, I would very much like to learn more about wormholes, sleepers or even the mechanics of Invention. For instance, I would love to know why I have to invent a Tech II blueprint more then once. In a nutshell I would love to know what I don't know already after reading the patch notes. That's all. |

Glad to see some Dropbear and AJ dirt at last.
It may not make sense at first.
For those of you who haven't been beating your head on this for 2 years, this is the first ANSWER I'm aware of Dropbear ever handing out on a platter. It answers specifically the use of the sequestered components from the Vitrauze Agreement - at least least in part. It opens the first truly new line of inquiry in months, and the first truly concrete one in more than a year.
It may just feel like a patch note, but this is worthy of some real investigation for the first time in a long while.
I expect Dropbear buried some further puzzles in the new data as well. |

"material identified during the Vitrauze Agreement as practically worthless" So "junk" wormhole stuff is about to become valuable for manufacturing new Tech II modules?
"new Tech II modules and capsule upgrades" Capsule upgrades? Interesting... I see something like this in the future: Capsule Upgrades (4x) 10% increase in Capsule shield, armor, and structure hit points per level 10% decrease in Capsule align time per level 5% increase in Capsule maximum velocity per level 5% decrease in Capsule signature radius per level
Or maybe just a Tech II capsule with some of the above? Please support: export of settings in editable format

Enjoyed it.
But... careful with this OOC knowledge that we cannot translate into IC (the mysterious senator did say: "This information was so well protected that for all we know there are less than ten people in the entire cluster who are aware of it.") I wondered what the empires were doing with the sleeper "blue loot". Now we know: Figuring out the new T2 stuff we got with crucible. Looks like we may be getting something about Pods too.
This chronicle seems to be set at a time just before Dr Tukoss announced the Site One project to us, a couple of months ago.
BTW if you go to Site One you can pick up the abstracts I wrote. Yay! In game items with my name on them! |

I'm afraid I have to disagree. The previous era of Chronicles are different by authorship and style by necessity. If you do your homework you will understand the staggering weight of history each new chronicle has to support. Most capualeers go about their selfish business blithely unaware of how profoundly their (to them routine) actions are effecting the world around them.
It is a trick of the mind, the chronicals only report a facet of the immersion you are already drowning in. |

I think it's great CCP is doing Chronicles, but I must say it really irks me that the newer ones have boiled down to advertisements.
The first one since Crucible was for POCOs, this one for the new T2 modules.... It's like instead of creating a background for the game you're using it to advertise the expansion.
Shame. |

Yeah i have to say sadly i dont like that is just about patch stuff or about player driven content. Eve is so vast and most of things never got explained or even hinted. At least the stories provided in the past some entertainment and dark humour and pulled players into eve deeper in terms of feeling. |

I agree completely. Chronicles in the past had pitched some characters in some corner of New Eden and went on to tell a story with them, extending the lore a bit here and a little there. They weren't there to explain some current game design issues, but to immerse players and present EVE from a different angle, to expand the game's world and - maybe most importantly - to provide inspiration for future game design changes.
In short: I'm afraid you're doing this the wrong way around.

I enjoyed this little blurb. I'm especially interested in a t3 pod. It would be nice to see a pod upgrade to protect those extra valuable implants that some of us spend billions of isk on. Something hard to make but provides pods with the equivilant of a tech 2 warp stab. More t2 mods are nice and if the Scientists need any help my rates are reasonable.

umm... i'm fairly new to the Chronicle scene... but I think you're forgetting where Hilen Tukoss was previously employed and what he did as Program Director of the Otosela Neuropsychology Center... His name has been about as big as the the billboards at the jump gates can make it! But think about the keyword: Neuropsychology. wrap that up in a warm pod-pita, throw some Tech 2 cuccumber sauce, and you've got a shiny new implant gyro.... (sorry - it's late and i'm starving)
I don't think this is just advertising for what we already know is out there. I've followed Dropbears work on the deepspace Sleeper story for a bit, and he's very good at giving you enough reeses candies to keep you walking on the trail. I think there's something very fun coming up for the goo-riders INSIDE the pod. which would make those new implant-inclusive killmails so much more interesting.... just sayin'... |
