Absolutly - 'Injecting noise' is a long used 'tactic'. I'm saving this for later (except the unintentional typos )
My general purpose is to keep this pretty simple for starters, to get as many as possible 'hooked' on it After that I'll ramp it up BIG Lottery

I have to admit to never having done one of these before. But once you understand some of the logical steps it kind of falls into place.
No doubt there are some short cuts that could be taken, however, given this is a fictional game, you can never tell when a proper noun or abbreviation is going to hit (and thats the reason why punctuation should be included Torn :P) ___________________________________________ Join in the NEW Sci-Fi Quiz |

Edit : Opps, the forum does not linebreak
This one was supposed to appear last sunday - But I've been busy - x-mas and all
But here it is for the x-mas days if you have some time to spare
It's an ancient cipher - which at first can look hard, but it really isnt
Have fun and merry xmas

I think we need some additional clues here. The letter frequency indicates, that this is not a substitution cipher like the previous ones. So it is a transposition type where the true letters of the message are taken out of their text-order. I have tried different schemes - making different linebreaks and reading the text horizontally etc.- but so far nothing seems to work. The distribution of the periods and the capital letters are somewhat strange, almost no capital letters in the first part og the message...

Edited by: TornSoul on 29/12/2003 16:37:21 Edit : hrmf the profanity filter is a bit heavy handed
It could be because of the holidays, or indeed because it's to hard that noone has c.racked it yet....
I'll give a clue...
Quote:
reading the text horizontally etc
Close - very very close (please remember that the text i posted is one single long line - I merely put in a few linebreaks 'at random' or the forum would simply display it as one *very* wide line - as the forum does not linebreak very long 'words')
We'll see if that is enough clue or not. (I actaully think it's too much - but hey it's xmas ) BIG Lottery

Seems this one is a bit too hard for most. Doesnt bode well for the 'finalÚ'...
And it *really* is dead simple - once you get the right idea....
I'll try one more clue... Kinda hard without giving it all away... (Just goes to show how simple it really is )
Lets see...
Nope.. cant think of anything without giving it all away... BIG Lottery

well, gave up on this one a couple of times because it looked impossible.. or I was drunk, but decided to actually dedicate some time to its solution today.. eventually figured it out.
Those first pesky three lines threw me as well.

Well, 08211201 for the first one (happily I wrote a small program to do this sort of thing for me a long time ago). Incidentally, the index of coincidence was = 0.064564 or thereabouts.
Didn't look at the others. Might later. ------------------------------------------- "My main griveance with the Caldari state was that once I had finished my work for them, they wanted me dead."
