If you'r client is crashing due to DEP thingys, edit your cache/prefs.ini file add this : voiceenabled=0 beneath the "username" entry
log into SISI : it should now work \o/ yay

Well fine, if you don't want to make Vista work with a Vivox enabled server (SISI) don't do it. But i am posting to let you know that if you do this, it will work.
thus, it is an official "OK-able" action. ________________________________ ~Jiekon ~CCP QA

you guys ever going to make vivox work in win2k?
cant say i would use it tbh , but would like to know win2k isnt suddenly going to be dropped because of vivox.

I honestly have no idea, but you should be able to use the small hack above to make EvE work where it fails to work because of vivox. ________________________________ ~Jiekon ~CCP QA

Are you trying to tell me it doesn't work in Win2K?
meh, if that's the case, then I won't be using it, which is a shame.

Windows 2000 is now in "extended support" and not in "mainstream". Common support for Windows 2000 ended at 30th June, 2005. Also see Microsoft Lifecycle pages and Windows 2000 Professional page.
Supporting older operating systems has a lot of problems. Quite often I want to use an API that simply is not available under systems like Windows 2000. Or that you need to distribute extra DLL's. The more you want to use newer technologies the more problems you get with older operating systems.
Altough Windows 2000 has it charme, personally I would suggest an upgrade to XP or Vista. ---- ICSC Jumpplanner tool - Routeplanner for all jumpcapable ships! |

yes i know that but eve is still meant to support win2k acording to there faq. i was just asking a question and i got the answer i expected and i know ms droped win2k support along time ago. i'll upgrade to vista when ati release a dx10 card and dx10 games start coming out, until then its just not worth it for me.
aslong as a work around for win2k & vivox continues to exist i will be happy, if they choose to just break win2k all together ill simply cancel my subscription and return again when i eventually go dx10 and vista

Just wanted to confirm that the problem I had with DEP + Vivox on Windows XP, can be bypassed by adding the voiceenabled=0 line. ----- CCP: Please make ship loot to drop in a can next to the wrecks. |

Have been waiting for over a month to get this thing sorted out.

And i wish to confirm that now sisi is running properly under vista.
Many thanks jiekon!!!

Considering the workaround posted here turns off speech I doubt the above will be a problem. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

So is CCP saying that Vivox integration won't work on Vista?

Woot! Now we can definately ignore everyone using the Vivox system, even when they do patch it to be Vista compatable I'm keeping this one in my prefs.ini ************************************************

it would be absolutely hilarious if they couldn't get something completely trivial as voice communication working client-side under win2k.

I wouldn't call it a hack...more of a ccp directed manual patch...

I'll "upgrade" to vista when they get off their high horse and decide to port their firewire drivers from XP so I can actually use the 500G or so of external hard drive space I already have.
/me grumbles about stupid DRM idiocy and wonders if lawyers might change their minds if their legal documents refused to print because of DRM issues.

I am sure that they COULD make it work with Win2k... but at some point, as is happening with DX10, you have to move forward; get rid of all the old code, etc. At least with vista launching you can get XP cheaper if this is a problem for you. *waves flag* begin the flaming
PS. Vista rocks. |
