"If you want to get in touch with me, I'll be on World of Warcraft's Arygos server playing as "Thrakhath". At least there I don't have to think about GMs funneling thousands of gold coins to players they like."
Aye, it's not like head developer of WoW high-end content is long term powerplayer with close ties to active guild. Nor like there was a scandal revolving about another developer associated with another guild, and abuse of power to both manipulate the game and the content of the official board when there was threads attempting to disclose his actions.
Honestly Istvaan it's great pity to see you leave, but this "new, perfect girlfriend" naivete coming from you out of all people... it's rather unbecoming.
Nevertheless, best luck on your new road ^^;;

I wasn't aware Legacy of Steel was still active.

What? I follow the raid game pretty closely(being an active participant and all ), and the closest things that would match that explanation are the "Silent Fang" incident where Caydiem was found to be significantly less experienced than she claimed on the forums, or the Overrated incident where they modified their clients to be able to bypass the wall and access C'thun directly.

Fires of Heaven still is though, i think? Was under impression Furor was moved from quest/dungeon designer position to something quite higher up the chain, not that short ago...

I don't have links at hand since was following it casually (i don't play WoW, but the forum drama was on level similar to what's happening in EVE now) ... it was really long time ago too, so i have very fuzzy recollection of the whole thing. Something along the lines of players figuring out in-game identity of one of the developers through information he posted on private blog (bragging about work at Blizzard etc sprinkled in midsts of other 'look at size of my rl and e-peen' entries) ... then raising question about validity of that guild achievements, again in quite similar manner to what's going on in EVE now. Initially the threads were being removed from WoW boards until the whole thing reached critical mass. I don't remember how it was resolved in the end, unfortunately :/

Bah.
And I came in from WoW. This is *******s, Istvaan. The PC Gamer article on the GH-SC thing was one of the critical reasons why I hopped games, despite having had three Rank 14 Warriors and a whole bunch of e-peen to wave in that game.
I was in Fires of Heaven back in EQ, and Tigule and Foror are the largest asshats I've ever seen in my entire online gaming experience. They're the two lead designers of WoW now. Those two jokers have always been on the position that those who "don't work for it don't deserve to experience the game", aka raiding elitists.
Raiding isn't fun. Raiding is boring. Raiding is an endless, pointless treadmill that generates more lame drama than the entirety of CAOD section of this forums.
I wish you luck in WoW, Istvaan. You're going to need it. The game won't start until you're 60, and you'll find out how much bullsh*t there is in WoW, I'll be expecting you to come back.
In EVE, GMs respond to critical issues under 10 minutes. In WoW, it's 8 hours. ---------------

You inspired many, myself included. Thanks for leaving the mark you did, because it has always been people like you who made this game worth playing. It won't be the same game without you.

This is quite a loss for eve online.
I remember my surprise when opening my "New Scientist" mag to see Istvaan Shogaatsu detailed as the eminent villian of the MMO genre. No doubt this guy has done wonders for eve and increased awareness for the whole market.
I believe that CCP demonstrated a lack of competency in this matter, yes, but they have also jumped on it adequately. No need to leave the game Istvaan. Please dont

Edited by: Xrak on 10/02/2007 18:18:58 Lol Istavaan, I am amazed that someone of your intelligence can be so naive about another game.
j0 has already pointed out examples, and I personally can attest to having a GM have a normal character in my guild when I played, and he wasnt worried about doing certain things now and then to help the guild and himself get a bit ahead.

the anti-WoW rhetoric is getting a bit old. post reputable links. frivolously trying to make comparisons between an inside scandal in a game w/ 8 million player base and ~150k player base. Completely oblivious to the fact the said *scandalous* incidents have a more profound impact on the players in a game like eve then WoW.
this type of behavior is prevalent in every mmorpg. i can remember examples in UO involving SiN on greatlakes. in eq on povar.

If you stopped and thought for a moment, you would realise that wasnt an Anti-WoW post. In fact in the past I think you will find I have on several occasions defended WoW from the eve critics, who call blashpemy at anyone who spoke about it, unwilling to open there eyes and see it for what it was and not as a rival to eve. The real irony of my experience of WoW, is that the people who belittled me for trying it are now the ones who are playing it, while I came back to Eve (even quicker then I expected to).
I cant post any proof of what I said afaik the guy was never caught. And yes events like the recents do have much more of an effect on a game like Eve then others, but what happened here I believe happens else where much more often and much more severly, with the game companies much less likely to come up with public apologies and the results the of investigation. I think Istavaan is blowing the situation out of proportion personally, but thats just my opinion, right?
GL Istavaan, go grief some noobs in another game somewhere.

An inspiration to many players, myself included, truly pushing the boundries of the dark side in eve, and doing it with style.
I only hope that such a high profile player leaving will show ccp that this is not a matter they can let slide and that proper investigation and public updates on the situation will have to be made.
