First, came Taggart Transdimensional and their magic tech 5 mining laser. Now comes news of the most powerful alliance in the game being supported by CCP devs spawning BPOs worth billions for them. And, you know what they say - if you get caught for two crimes, it's a safe bet you've gotten away with more. The mere fact that you banned a player who brought your missteps to light is the icing on the cake.
My time in Eve has come to an end. My character and various expensive stuff will be given to friends I've made throughout my years of playing. I can't abide these repeated incidents of outright cheating on the part of the very people who made this game. If you want to get in touch with me, I'll be on World of Warcraft's Arygos server playing as "Thrakhath". At least there I don't have to think about GMs funneling thousands of gold coins to players they like.
Thanks for the fun times, the opportunity to be published in a magazine, and the trip to Iceland (Anna, I'd seriously marry you) - but you guys have got to get your shit in check. Signing off...

Edited by: Dark Shikari on 09/02/2007 22:00:38 I've always though highly of you, Istvaan.
But quitting the game over rampant tinfoil-hat speculation before the devs even finish their inquiry, and then joining the exact kind of game you spent years denouncing because it was nearly grief-free and lacked the kind of possibilities EVE had?
I don't like to say this, but don't let the door hit you on the way out.

It's a shame that someone who got away with things, without cheating, and always explaining how he did it in a Scooby Doo manner; is leaving the game because of people who had to resort to cheating to get similar advantages.

Feh, you're the reason I started playing Eve: that PC Gamer article that seems so long ago now. Not that I thought what you did was admirable, but the very fact that such things could happen made the game seem so intriguing.

Aye, it's not like head developer of WoW high-end content is long term powerplayer with close ties to active guild. Nor like there was a scandal revolving about another developer associated with another guild, and abuse of power to both manipulate the game and the content of the official board when there was threads attempting to disclose his actions.
Honestly Istvaan it's great pity to see you leave, but this "new, perfect girlfriend" naivete coming from you out of all people... it's rather unbecoming.

What? I follow the raid game pretty closely(being an active participant and all ), and the closest things that would match that explanation are the "Silent Fang" incident where Caydiem was found to be significantly less experienced than she claimed on the forums, or the Overrated incident where they modified their clients to be able to bypass the wall and access C'thun directly.

Fires of Heaven still is though, i think? Was under impression Furor was moved from quest/dungeon designer position to something quite higher up the chain, not that short ago...

I don't have links at hand since was following it casually (i don't play WoW, but the forum drama was on level similar to what's happening in EVE now) ... it was really long time ago too, so i have very fuzzy recollection of the whole thing. Something along the lines of players figuring out in-game identity of one of the developers through information he posted on private blog (bragging about work at Blizzard etc sprinkled in midsts of other 'look at size of my rl and e-peen' entries) ... then raising question about validity of that guild achievements, again in quite similar manner to what's going on in EVE now. Initially the threads were being removed from WoW boards until the whole thing reached critical mass. I don't remember how it was resolved in the end, unfortunately :/

Bah.
And I came in from WoW. This is *******s, Istvaan. The PC Gamer article on the GH-SC thing was one of the critical reasons why I hopped games, despite having had three Rank 14 Warriors and a whole bunch of e-peen to wave in that game.
I was in Fires of Heaven back in EQ, and Tigule and Foror are the largest asshats I've ever seen in my entire online gaming experience. They're the two lead designers of WoW now. Those two jokers have always been on the position that those who "don't work for it don't deserve to experience the game", aka raiding elitists.
Raiding isn't fun. Raiding is boring. Raiding is an endless, pointless treadmill that generates more lame drama than the entirety of CAOD section of this forums.
I wish you luck in WoW, Istvaan. You're going to need it. The game won't start until you're 60, and you'll find out how much bullsh*t there is in WoW, I'll be expecting you to come back.
In EVE, GMs respond to critical issues under 10 minutes. In WoW, it's 8 hours. ---------------

the anti-WoW rhetoric is getting a bit old. post reputable links. frivolously trying to make comparisons between an inside scandal in a game w/ 8 million player base and ~150k player base. Completely oblivious to the fact the said *scandalous* incidents have a more profound impact on the players in a game like eve then WoW.
this type of behavior is prevalent in every mmorpg. i can remember examples in UO involving SiN on greatlakes. in eq on povar.

If you stopped and thought for a moment, you would realise that wasnt an Anti-WoW post. In fact in the past I think you will find I have on several occasions defended WoW from the eve critics, who call blashpemy at anyone who spoke about it, unwilling to open there eyes and see it for what it was and not as a rival to eve. The real irony of my experience of WoW, is that the people who belittled me for trying it are now the ones who are playing it, while I came back to Eve (even quicker then I expected to).
I cant post any proof of what I said afaik the guy was never caught. And yes events like the recents do have much more of an effect on a game like Eve then others, but what happened here I believe happens else where much more often and much more severly, with the game companies much less likely to come up with public apologies and the results the of investigation. I think Istavaan is blowing the situation out of proportion personally, but thats just my opinion, right?
GL Istavaan, go grief some noobs in another game somewhere.

I saw you in space once, summer 05 i belive. Its indeed sad to see such a revered player leave the game and this if anything should hint to CCP that they might have to rethink if they should allow their developers to play the game at all.
I personally belive they should play as long as they train skills like a normal char, earns isk like a normal char and remains anonymous.

Heh, amazing. I wish you the best of luck in your new gaming venture Istvaan but I do fear that you may find it a shallow experience, still, we do what we have to in order to have fun, that's the very point of it really.
I'll still be here, as will many others but I have to ask, anyone else considering leaving over this incident, please do so quietly instead of trying to convince others to leave too.

But anyways, godspeed Istvaan! [level 70 flying mount failure :(((]

Originally by: Istvaan Shogaatsu First, came Taggart Transdimensional and their magic tech 5 mining laser.

I think many Eve-gamers is considering the same Istvaan Shogaatsu. Now I hope that Kieron understands that _all questions_ have to be answered. Dev's must be kicked from whatever playercorps/alliances theyr currently in and so on. When final thorough pressrealese comes from CCP it will affect my future choice towards Eve-Online.
Anyway whatever choice you make I wish you the very best.
Cheers

It's not that difficult to grief in WoW. The difference is that griefing in Eve has more lasting effects than griefing in WoW. Griefing in WoW is an annoyance that may destroy the current session for the player being griefed, while in Eve, when you grief you're doing financial damage(mostly) which can set back a player/corporation back in time(depending on how much of a financial hit it was).
It's not the same scale of griefing, but griefing nonetheless. |

You might be the only person who plays this game that i actually have any respect for... if you leave then others will be soon after.. im not leaving.. mainly because even with the Dev situation its better than every other MMO ive ever tried... including WoW which got dull exceedingly fast.. or more likely this is just a ploy so that when a new target suspects an infiltrator to be of your kind... they wont be worried becuase "istvaan has left the game"

Edited by: Virida on 14/02/2007 23:17:53 Well, ive seen volunteer support staff and, what i belive, was real devs in a different game(i belived they was devs, but i didnt say anything, never did, since devs got the right to be anonymous). And the one i think is dev, is still playing the game, years after, and i still havent done anything. But i was turoughly disapointed, since it dawned on me, it didnt matter if it was a dev, since, a hardcore game playing would play the same, if he is a dev, or not. And the ones i though was dev/devs, was the worst exploiters ive seen.
My reaction to the p20 incident in EVE was: "doh, not again! not in EVE!" and feeling sorry for whar result it would give for EVE and CCP's reputation
Im sorry to see EVE's absolutely most famous gamer go though Have a nice stay in the land of crayola trolls and gnomes with pink hair

I guess theres only so many different ways one can rob a corp.. and only so many times someone can spend months or years to gain trust just to steal bpos etc?
Also, I'd imagine running his kind of business takes a lot of real world money, (unless hes paying for his accounts with ISK etc) to keep many different alts on the go etc.. Time consuming and costly.
As for his final message, In a community as small and complicated as Eve-O, the recent scandal, leaves a sour taste in a lot of players mouths. Personally I couldnt give a ****e, I'll continue to play eve for as long as I enjoy it. As for Istvaan here, it seems to me, Eve has run its course, and he needs a break in a game thats a little less demanding on your life. If he ever comes back, it may not be announced, and it maybe on an alt, but in the long run, WOW is not a worthy replacement for Eve :)

this has gone on far to long, its going to take some major action before CCP regains any faith or trust.
I just dont see that happening. I imagine alot more Veteran players will be hanging up accounts before CCP recognizes that they way they sweep clear conflicts of interest and abuses of power under the rug are ruining this game.
