Hmm.. I hear the blowouts are now scripted? It seems that maybe we're getting a watered down version which is quite upsetting to me after all this time waiting. I can't really afford a copy though so I guess it'll be a while before I find out

Got it on release and its so far great. I've just saved some guy and stumbled on the AK. For those complaining about bugs, problems etc after a good 7-10hours of single play and 4-6 of multiplay, I haven't experienced a single lockup, crash, problem or anything.
I have graphics full whack, hell it even defaulted them to full bar AA / view distance. And I don't get any lag or problems whilst playing, its far from the most detailed game (HL2 and before comes to mind) but at the same time, the graphics you do retain are still good quality.
I like the 'rpg' elements they've introduced, it gives you plenty more to do other than, go there, shoot this, next room (doom/quake). Only pain in the ass, is completing a few missions running back to base, handing them in then running all the way back to zone2/3.
For those that dislike it, try and keep it constructive! Same goes for those who do like it, why do you dis/like it :) Give something for people to get their teeth into to better understand what their trying to buy.
Personally, I think its great, its far from one of the best FPS out, but the concept brings something new to the FPS arena.
As for my rig 3.800+ AMD Athlon 64 1gb(2x512) 7950GX2 1gb(2x512)DDR2-8000 Crucial Memory.
An for those buying 8800's, All i can do is point and laugh, they maybe 'next-gen' but their already being pushed to one side by Nvidia as Microsoft let slip about DX10.1 which make 8800's hardware that run on 10.0 obselete before they even get off the ground...

Don't buy this game unless you got a top of the line comp. My comp meets all the requirements but it's still highly unstable and the frame rate is horrible. Looks like an awesome game but that doesn't really matter if you can't get the game to run right. -----------------------------

Well, I was stupid enough to buy a new PC for this game lol. Well... It runs smooth i must say yes. But the bugs keep annoying me.
THERE's A PATCH being released soon! And it fixes some bugs, not the savegame bug. It's already there for the russians, not for the rest of the community.
I've stopped playing the SP after having to restart a game for the third time due to bugs. I'm not a happy costumor...

your quick save and load are now f10 and f11.
o yea besides some small little buggies like the quick load bug.

WOW! Now i know how to rebind the quick load/save keys, now perhaps you can tell me how that helps the whole "crashes every 2 minutes" problem? Frankly I'm stumped as to how the hell you thought that would help. All that does is help me loose less progress every time the game crashes and I have to reboot the computer. Perhaps you should actually read my post before making smart ass remarks? -----------------------------

I only have a 1.8 ghz AMD Athlon xp 2500 cpu, Geforce 6600 GT w/ 128mb memory & 1gb ddr ram and the game is very smooth for me.
Needless to say I run it in "low" gfx mode but for low-mode it's very nice. Not ugly at all.
I don't understand all these hysterical computer-spec trolls ranting about how the game sux without a machine made by NASA -_-
Ps. The fallout atmosphere of the game has me hooked <3

I just completed it, probably spent around 20 hours doing a fair bit of exploring.
And not a single crash in all that time.
The only bug I ever encountered (very rarely) was my character 'icon' sometimes not appearing on the map on my PDA, so I couldn't see where I was.
All in all a stunning game. ---------------------------------------- Space-Slacker |

Tada, since my last post in here I have gotten this game myself, I have to say that the computer i've been running it on isn't all that powerful but runs the game fine on medium settings, the game still looks good so that's ok. I havn't had a single crash so far after several hours of play, had a little stuttery bit for a while but that passed. I will reccomend this to all my friends.

Edited by: Letri Bimmet on 28/03/2007 20:30:28 It's a pretty sweet game.
The overall look of the game isn't amazing but it fits the gritty and worn-out style of the game. I really like the shadows when you walk/run around with your flashlight on. And the lighting...flashes of light...you can see dogs running in the distance during the flashes. Pretty sweet.
The Character animations are also quite good...haven't found anything specific that amazed me or struck me as wrong. The AI....well it varies between brainless swarms charging at you (the blind dogs and other critters) and the humans running and hiding. Tho the human AI seemed to be more about staying at range and croutching on one place. They do move around...but not as much as I've liked. I liked it tho that packs of dogs and other beasts would go out hunting and attack stalkers or mercs. It adds something...real and dynamic to the game world.
The weapons...ah...lovely. The first time I picked up a machinegun with a scope I was like...wow o_0 It fills up alot of your screen...but that's the way I like my guns Reminded me of the machinegun in systemshock 2 (one of my fav weapons of all time) Overall the details on the guns are pretty low but as i said before...it fits the worn-out style of the game. The blasts and sounds made by the guns are impressive....what else can I say;)
The outdoor scenes were great...lot's of grass and little details around. Tho some area's had alot of the same anomalies. A little more variation would be nice
The indoor scenes. DARK...SPOOKY, tho not really scary...Exiting would be more fitting. As far as I've seen indoor fights are rare...it's more about building up to that one big fight. *wich I really like Lots of detail inside...broken walls...cigs left on the table...stuff like that, really cool:)
Sound...great. It adds to the spooky feel inside and to the grand feel outside. Tho some of the background sounds were kinda repeating after a wile, but they arn't annoying thankfully. They add a little flavour to the lonelyness of the outside.
I haven't encounted any crashes or what so ever. Tho I had the problem of grafical artifacts appearing during the rain on my first walk into the game. Tho they seem to have dissapeared now. I have found a few missions in wich I got stuck, wich was kinda annoying. Maybe I missed a event trigger or something. I should really go back and try to finish those ones.
My rig: AMD FX 4200+ Geforce 8800GTS Corsair 2gig RAM onboard sound and then the usual...you know..hard drives and such Every setting maxed and it runs like a dream (wich means great) haven't been able to check my fps tho...
Roundup The game isn't groundbreakin or anything...it's a good shooter with some nice RPG elements thrown into it. The fact that you can only carry 2 or 3 guns and some supplies will make you think twice about picking up another gun or a new type of ammo. It add depth into the game rarely seen in other games I've played. The story isn't really clear to me atm. Still need to find that stalker and kill him...but for what reason? Would be nice if they told me more about the stalker I need to kill. Add a little background into him and his friends.
I haven't finished the game yet tho but I'm giving it 9/10 so far:)

It seems a vast majority of the storyline is revealed through text in your PDA (that the game gives you no indication that it's updating). Make sure to check your Diary/Log entries and the Encylopedia and read them thoroughly. ---------------------------------------- Space-Slacker |

Edited by: The Armin on 28/03/2007 21:06:46 MEh very dissapointed in this game tbh. The first thirty minutes or so I went omg omg omg omg but after that -.-
My missions are buggy, whatever job I chose doesn't matter, and I can't rearrange priorities in my PDA. The game sorta chooses wich mission locations it sets the arrow to. So if I ever do a sidequest I have to check the PDA for directions all the time. Annoying.
Also the graphics is meh. First I had everthing on max, noticed lag, set it to low, but it still lagged roughly the same, so just put it on max again with static lightning, wich helped some but not all that much.
Wait for the patches and/or mods before you start playing this game.

You can change which objective the arrow points to by double-clicking to the left of the green target on any quest objectives in the PDA. ---------------------------------------- Space-Slacker |

Doesn't double-click set where the arrow is pointing? I could have sworn it did but I may have been dreaming.. I don't know..

So how does this game compare to FEAR then? I thought FEAR was superb as a shooter and a scary one at that. From the above posts there seems to be a bit of a divide between lovers & haters, with a general agreement that there's bugs aplenty and harsh PC spec requirements. After 6 years of waiting I don't have any enthusiasm for Stalker but may be tempted. It might be enough to keep me going till BioShock comes out! -------------

Finished! <<<SPOILER WARNING>>>
I knew I had to get rid of my money so I bought a Exosqueleton from the Freedom trader of wich I joined. I fight for the Zone, not against it yehhh!
But I had 50K ruble left and when I touched the wishmaker, I wanted to be rich. Right back at me. The roof fell on me. lovely.
So, I gotta do less sidequests eh? What did you made em for then?
FINAL THOUGHTS: This had to be the best game I've ever played singleperson. The atmospher is so good. From the beginning where the freaky little sounds put you off. And at the nearly end where you start to see ghosts. When everything turns yellow and you start seeing ghosts, that's when you know, you're in The Zone. The atmosphere is so intense, graphics are descent, and action never far away. I'd recommend this game to everyone who's into FPSes wih a RPG touch.

Well i played this game for 20 minutes last night and i doubt i'll ever touch it again. Ok yeah it has pretty good graphics, even with everything on full it ran smooth and that was pretty neat. Sure its got big wide open areas you can explore and stuff but my god the combat system is poo. Shooting enemies, killing them, them falling over and just the way they move reminds me of games that were out 2 years ago. Weapon textures seem poor. Can someone please tell me whats the big deal with this game, have i missed something? Reminds me a bit of Oblivion.

Well I love this game, it's something I've been waiting for since I played Deus Ex for the first time. I never followed development for the game much so I had no expectations going into it and what it does have is amazing. A wide open post-apocalyptic world to romp around in, a nice realistic system juxtaposed with the deeply supernatural elements of the 'Zone' make it feel Lovecraftian in a way, and the atmosphere is just amazing (especially in the abandonned cities) and you can definately see all the work they put in to making the environments by traveling to the real 'Zone' (strangely enough it is actually called that in real life too) to take pictures for the various areas of the game. On e of the best games I've had the pleasure of playing in a while, and a refreshing challenge to boot. ---------------------
